As the topic says :)

The ones that are open are open and those that are closed are not.

Would probably make more sense to think about where you may be shopping then look at those particular malls' web sites. I'm sure there are probably quite a few malls in the GTA.

I think the City of Toronto changed their retail holidays law to include Family Day, it didn't last year, so most will be closed. Eaton Centre will be open though.

Vaughan Mills will also be open as with most holidays.

That's because Family Day didn't exist last year.

Yes it was a holiday last year. This year is the second one.

However the City of Toronto has special powers to set retail holidays, they hadn't changed the law to reflect this holiday yet. They're using the same list as the ones in the Retail Business Holidays Act.

I still don't think that any should be open since the idea is to spend the day with family and having stores open means that employees can't be with family and shoppers will be out at the stores and not with their family.

I particularly looking for Pacific Mall if they are open but there website says its open all-round yearly... so that answers my question.

But yah... also am looking for other malls too if they are open... like Gerrard Square, Woodside Mall (finch/McCowan) and STC.

Stay home and spend time with the family!!

Its FAMILY day, spend time w/them @ home.

In my case, its family day almost every day... <Live with parents and siblings, well cousin and ext. family... personal problems which can't be fix...>

but... you know family day is spending your family, right... so its not really staying home, the typical thanksgiving thing...
You know shopping with your family is awesome too :)

So like stores like walmart, sears and other big box store some are connected to mall can benefits these... so :)

i think purpose of family day was just to have a holiday in a cold month given that there is no holidays between January 1st to St.Patrick day. Is St.Patrick day even a paid holiday? lol I can't remember. That would leave June needing a holiday.

Does anyone know what the Eaton Centre hours will be on Family Day? The website doesn't say.

No St Patrick's Day is not a holiday. I guess June doesn't have a holiday because Canada Day is on July 1 which is close enough to June.

To all who are defending family day:

The fact that you need the government to set aside a day so you can spend with your family, is extremely sad! (Unless you have a legit excuse!)

I think the idea is for people to have more time with their families, not necessarily that they don't spend any right now.

Look I am single and don't have kids, I still think Family Day is a great idea, it's just a day off for me and means little, but lots of people would find an extra holiday useful.

People uses to need an excuse to get out of the house, and that was shopping, not it's the other way aroun, and I like this new day.

getting paid for not working is a bonus. Just curious who picks up the expense? The business themselves?

Who else? Government?

Hence, a lot of businesses are not happy about this new holiday. Also, a lot of them are not closing on this day.

In this yr's economy, I don't blame them at all.

Basically the holiday was made to give people a day off during the winter (after Christmas). In years past, there has been no holiday from Christmastime till Easter.
They just called it Family Day, like they have in other provinces (they could have called it something else).
It's called Family Day, but that doesn't mean you have to spend time with your family.

+1

"Family Day" is just a marketing name for it to give people warm fuzzies. Those who think you're supposed to spend family time is just falling for the marketing. You don't tell non-Christians to spend time discussing their love of Jesus on Easter and Christmas holidays or ask people to review historical Ontario political figures on Simcoe day or dress in black and put on a frown to honour Queen Victoria on Victoria day...

If anything, it should be "Vote for Dalton" day...
