I'm currently looking for a nice deep fryer, something with the heating element directly in the oil, and the cover that can be removed completly. Not one of those T-Fal ones..

Problem is, every store only has models limited to 1500W and that have a tiny frying basket. Oil basket is also around 3 liters.

I'd like to have one that could contain ~5 liters of oil, that way the oil stays hot when you put the cold food in. Does anyone know where I could find such a beast? Are they illegal in Canada? They seem easy to find in the US.. (www.lnt.com, linens'n things in the US has them, but not in Canada..)

Thats a good question because I was about to purchase one from Williams Sonoma but it seems so small and I normally cook for at least 4-5 adults at once. So it would be quite difficult to cook 80-90 chicken wings in those little baskets 17 wings at a time. I'll look into it this week

I'd like to have one like this: Waring DF200
http://www.waringproducts.com/cgi-bin/wari...ries_long=DF200 (http://www.waringproducts.com/cgi-bin/waring/ret/waringRet.pl5?ID=EjWSooIz&action=displayItem&series_long=DF200)

5 litres of oil, 1800 Watts.

However, the Canadian model (DF200C) is only 3 litres of oil and 1500 watts...

As for your 17 wings at a time: keep in mind that the oil will need to be warmed up again during each batch so it will take forever..

Might want to look into a place that sells commercial equipment for something like that.

Yeah, but commercial = big $$$.. These things are available in the US for 60 - 120$..

I know that if a product does not have CSA or the "c UL" approval it cannot be sold in Canada. But can it be used?

Buy it from a US retailer that ships to Canada, or get an Amerifriend... or go for a drive across the boarder, buy it yourself and hide it in your car as you cross back *l* :P

If you buy a larger model or a commercial model, remember that Canadian outlets are generally rated at 15 amps - so the maximum consisistent wattage is 1650. While you can get away with more for shorter periods (eg a hairdrier) I would be careful with a frier. Some commercial models are 220 volts. Or you may have to put in a 20 amp breaker which may be a problem if your wiring is marginal.

Isn't Canada 120V / 60Hz?

For a 15 amp circuit, that would be 1800 watts..
