I've been trying to open a direct savings account at HSBC with my daughter, my wife, and I as joint account holders. I tried the online application, but it requires the account holders to be 18 or older (my daughter is 2). The client services representative I spoke with has not been able to offer any assistance.

Does anyone have any experience with a similar issue? Any advice?

I had a savings account when I was two years old. They may require an applicant to be 18 to use the online form, but I was thinking there may be ways around that (e.g., presenting SIN/birth certificate at a branch or maybe applying over the telephone). Well, imagine my surprise when I got a call back from HSBC telling me I was right—there are other options.

Thank you, though, for the thought-provoking response. It was thoughtful, enlightening, and intelligent.

Was mine not thoughtful, enlightening, and intelligent?

It was, indeed. Thank you.
