Hi Gang,
I am looking for some feedback advice. I purchased Vista from a user here. It arrived this week, but it was open. No big deal at this point. I figured it was installed, the guy didn't like it and went back to XP. Anyway, I PM'ed the seller a few days ago, then again a day later. He read the last PM, which also had my message from the day before, and he's logged on more than once since sending the PMs.
This is what I wrote in the PM:
I received the package today. I wasn't surprised that the seal was broken. How long ago was that version of Vista uninstalled from a computer?
The message on the 2nd PM:
Please don't forget to respond.
I haven't posted any feedback yet, but I am thinking that if he's not going to give me an honest reply and any reply, for that matter, then a negative evaluation is warranted.
Do you agree? disagree?

I agree. If not negative, at least a neutral. He wasn't being honest upfront.

To be honest, I never really asked him if it was open or not. It's a retail version, so the fact that it was open may not be a big deal. However, the lack of response, makes me think the product key is still in use.
My next step is to call Microsoft to find out for sure, then you ask Microsoft to deactivate the product key and issue me a new one. I shouldn't have to do this, and this is what I am really mad about.

Anymore opinions? I thought this thread would be booming.

I'd give him some time to reply.
If no communication from his end, then give him the boot, and send in the key for a replacement if possible.

My original PM was at 5pm on April 12th, my 2nd PM was at 11:30pm on April 13th, and my 3rd PM was 8:30am on April 16th. There is an official read of my 2nd PM at 8am on April 14th, but we all know you can read your PMs via email without logging on to RFD. He was last on RFD at 8pm on April 15th.
In a few hours it will be 5 days. How much longer should I wait?

If I were you I wouldn't be that patient... 5 days is pretty long, especially when he has been reading the PM's..

As a newbie I may be not the best source of advice here but I would come to your conclusion too. The software has been used and your only choice left is contacting Microsoft. The seller is not likely to be helpful.

Contacted Microsoft today. The only way to check if the product key is currently in use is to install Ultimate and activate the product key. I didn't want to wreck or delete an XP install on another computer, so I just changed the product key on my Ultimate install. The product key on the open software I received seems to activate correctly so the key is currently not in use on another computer, which is a good thing. However, I now have two Ultimate product keys activated on the same computer, which will likely mean more future phone calls to Microsoft. I will keep this product key on my computer to ensure nobody else will be able to activate it.
Okay, so here's the question. If you're the seller and you know everything to be legit then why be so evassive?

Just an update:
I did finally get a response from the seller. He stated that Vista was openned, but not installed. He still didn't have a reasonable explanation as to why it would take a week to reply to a simple question -- especially since it would have saved me the phone calls to Microsoft.
Anyway, I have decided to leave things alone for now. Technically, poor communication is usually enough to leave a negative or neutral feedback, but I have decided to hold any feedback back until my 2nd/3rd phone call to Microsoft to have Vista reset so it can be moved to another computer. If it ends well, then I'll leave no feedback.

News to me that you can activate more than one key on the same install... interesting. I wonder what M$ planned to achieve thru this.
