so i recently bought a yorkie poo as a pet, but it turns out that he is much more then i expected.
ive had 3 dogs before him, and they were all very well trained and easy to manage.
this yorkiepoo is very active, and it never calms down. it hardly sleeps, even at night. all it does it yap, whine and bark for people to play with it, 24 hours a day.
and after numerous scoldings about going pee and poo inside the house, he still does not seem to get the message.
any ideas on how to properly train a yorkiepoo, or how to calm it down?
the previous dogs i owned were cavaliers and cocker spaniels. this yorkiepoo is the first "play dog" that ive had. so im thinking that maybe because of its playful genes that is causing all his hyperness in him.

Its got the will and energy of a terrier.

Training: consistency, firmness, fairness.

Rinse and repeat. Then do it again.

Play with it before bed time for about an hour.

What the hell is a "Yorkipoo" or "yorkie poo"? Is this some sort of breed or a Heinz 57 (plus or minus) animal?

Is it a puppy?

For the peeing/pooping problem, have you tried crate training him during the day (if you're away) and at night? Dogs usually won't mess where they sleep. Just make sure you take him outside before you leave him alone, and then right away when you come home. I know he will cry, but do your best to ignore him and he will quiet down. If you go to "comfort" him, you're doing exactly what he wants...giving him attention.

Do some research on various training techniques on the internet, and hopefully you'll find one that suits you.

+1 for what Kreez said about consistency, firmness and fairness, it's extremely important. Make sure he knows who the boss is!

I have a yorkie poo as well. He is hilarious, but I totally know what you mean about nonstop playing.

I could snap my fingers in the middle of the night and he would be ready to play just like that. He never really sleeps, he always has one eye open in case my spouse or I decide to chase one another in the middle of the night through the city streets. I'm sure thats exactly what he is preparing for.

If one of us gets up to use the washroom, he is up, sometimes right beside you. In the morning, he wakes us up ready for a game.

If we say the word "walk" at anytime, he almost has a heart attack he gets so excited. He is a year and a half now and he hasn't calmed down one bit.

My other dog is half poodle, quarter shitzu quarter schnauzer, and she could sleep through an earthquake for 16 hours straight.

As for the pee and poo inside the house, he was very malicious in the beginning during training. But consistency won out, he is very communicative when he needs to void his bladder now. I tried to punish him in the early stages because of frustration, but that never worked, it only served to make him fearful of me and therefore not be very communicative. Only positive reinforcement and daily habits helped.

If you can, I would suggest dog school. Not just for the dog, but for the master. We take him to the dog park to socialize as much as possible and he gets a lot of energy out that way too. You could always tie a sled behind him too. :) Good luck!

Can I recommend a cannon?

Sorry, not a big fan of small yippy dogs, best of luck though.

+1 - it is a higher than normal priced mutt that time will tell will have genetic problems, just like all other mutts.
