While you seemingly can't go wrong getting brand name glasses for $15, I'm returning my Nike after 3 attempts by Clearly to install the left lens correctly. I've given up. They just can't get it right. I cant be bothered shipping the pair to them AGAIN (yes, it's at their expense). Each time they do up a new pair, lens installation is WORSE than before - and that's after I was assured that glasses won't leave their lab before QC manager inspects them personally. What a BS.

On the other note, my other pair (rimless) is just fine.

Just a reminder to those who have ordered before that Clearlycontats "standard" free lens have dropped from 1.61 glass down to 1.5 glass, so a far thicker standard glass than it used to be. Gotta pay 40 bucks to get back up to 1.61.

Thanks op. Ordered 3 frames..will most likely have them re-done with Nikon Seemax lenses locally so this coupon basically gave me ~$20 designer frames.

Has anyone dealt with their returns? What happens if I don't like the frame I chose and/or doesn't fit; is it easy to obtain a refund (I assume we pay the shipping back)

I'm somewhat amazed by how incompetent their website managers are(i'm assuming they're small enough to outsource their IT). it would be the work of a few minutes for anyone who has any idea wtf they're doing to just reject orders outside the area the coupons supposed to be for immediately.

but the range on the site goes from +6.00 to -20.00

hmmmm.....std lenses? Must be pretty powerful, but if it can help someone avoid the clap, it's worth the price of admission, especially when you're dealing with the end of the nighters at 2am :lol:

That being said, I think this is a good deal, but I don't see any semi-rimless frames I would necessarily like, and I'd need to try them on to see if they look good

I thought it might be because i got more than 1 pair so i called the call center to see if i could get my first pair still but they told me my order was cancelled because the offer is only open to new customers in TO.

Anyone else get the emails or get the same explanation from the call center?

Hopefully your order was canceled because you order two pairs (gotta love greed) and not because you weren't in Toronto.

Checked my e-mail for confirmation...lo and behold...two exact orders!

Replied to the second order and requested that they cancel it...I will call them tomorrow to confirm...I don't want to take a chance on having to ship one pair back.

Odrered lacoste 12200 with tint and 1.59 lense for $76.65

Not bad I guess...

How have people faired with returns...were you on the hook for shipping expenses?

I returned 2 pairs before (on a paid order, not freebie like this) and they emailed me a prepaid shipping label. They sent me back the new pairs without any extra cost.

Good question. They advertise on MSN, on the sides of buses, and sell contacts and glasses in different countries. So one would expect some kind of solid web support.

It seems unlikely that RFD alone could bring their site down. More likely is that it's down so they don't have to process a lot of other requests. And if you want glasses, and aren't in Toronto, you might visit them again tomorrow. Perhaps?

Then again, I'm still waiting for a $20 pair (upgraded to sunglasses) that's gone back and forth since December (3 out of 4 ain't bad, I guess).

i was at union this morning, everyone reading the metro saw the ad on the back of it, and they were handing out flyers at union station, bay/king and who knows where else, so a lot of people know about this, cant really blame the webmasters, they probably tried to get ready for the onslaught but failed.

Finally got the page to work after multiple stalls. Ordered a pair of Gucci's. Got an order number but no confirmation email as of yet. I'll be actually surprised if this works because I'm sure over 1000 people must have ordered so far.

Apparently my order got submitted twice without me knowing it...called CSR and was able to cancel one. Didn't pay for any of the orders either so I'll wait until the madness is over and then go back online to pay.

THE CSR said it'll probably take ~10 business days to arrive.

How much does it cost to get lenses redone with thin lenses (1.61 or thinner) at a local store?

I'm thinking it will probably cost me about $300 for Nikon SeeMax lenses. My last pair with frames were about $500-$600 (before my insurance claim). ymmv based on prescription and lens type you go with.

edit: also got my copy of the paper. the code is clearly MAY11 so I have no idea what kind of crack that other guy was smoking. its also 1/household so they'll probably be canceling my other orders. oh well.

He did mention that they have added additional pairs to the $38 list for the remainder of May. He wasn't able to tell me if the one I wanted was in that list because their system is down, so can't even place order by phone lol.

I got new lenses for an existing pair of glasses for $60. (New prescription and I liked my frames.) I have a light prescription, but I was quoted $130 at Costco to replace the lenses.

Anyways, this is where I went. They did it in less than 1 hour.

I was surprised at first too. When you buy glasses at Clearlycontacts, you pay later for your order, so that's why you don't submit any payment info when submitting your order.

Just call them up to cancel your unwanted orders.

sweet, i just called in and cancelled my order from last week wednesday.

and was able to re-order the two pairs that i ordered before. Just saved myself $90 because of this deal.

Previous order was $160
Today's order is $70
for the same exact pair....

I'm in toronto so I don't expect my orders to get cancelled.

EDIT: seems like the site is currently down.

Just because it's written that your orders is being shipped does not mean it will go through. For the Edmonton offer, I tried it just to see if it works since I saw many people try. Although I got that message, a few days later, my order was cancelled. All you can do is wait.

Phone or email them and complain. That was my backup plan in case I didn't get mine (but I did after trying and trying). Tell them that you spent half your morning trying to fill the order....yada yada. They should honour it. Needless to say, this was a poorly planned promotion on their part.

I ordered today at 1003 hours and paid at 1005 hours. Haven't been canceled yet. We'll see what happens...

I ordered my first pair (prescription tinted lenses) on April 30. Got an email on May 8 saying that there is a delay in sourcing the lens, and there is a 5-10 business days delay. I guess I probably won't get those for quite a while.

Their site is pretty annoying though... as soon as you put your address and coupon code in and then click the next step to see if the coupon code worked and how much it came out to, it automatically confirms that you bought the item whether the coupon worked or not. I apparently ordered glasses from them a few months ago and did not know it until I got them in the mail with a request for payment. I would rather confirm that I want the order by paying for it first then by giving them my address...

It's their buy now pay later thing. You can pay right away if you want or pay the invoice when you get your order.

Maybe they will but the OP should have put those details in... the other free giveaways they have done have also been for Vancouver only or Edmonton only or whatever. When i called their rep they said its for new customers because they want to get new people to get a chance to try thier site so that's why they get free glasses.

If you didn't get an order number, then it didn't go through. You are able to check to see if the code worked without ordering.

kinda strange if they do in fact send you the glasses before you make a payment.
what's stopping someone from sending a bunch of glasses to some unknowing person's address?

technically no. how should i explain this....the "first" time i ordered from them was a mistake (back in 2006). i was just checking their site and wanted to know how much it'll be. i didn't know when i clicked on submit, the order would go through. so i called them to cancel.

still confused, the CSR said the deal was dead at 12:30. but i ordered at 10:45 am. i paid by phone (around 2:00 pm) and just got the email now. the CSR doens't know why i got the email either. i checked the online status and my order is still saying "order is being shipped". :confused:

My order was cancelled too. But I called and the CSR said that many people have called about the same thing. Apparently some of the orders were duplicated and that ONE of them is cancelled while the other one is being processed. The order number that they said was still being processed is the order number they tell you in the email that they cancelled. Best of luck to you guys.

I figured my sunglasses were holding things up, and asked if my glasses were ready could they ship those and the sunglasses later (they offered the free express shipping I already had with my order) and I just got word they are shipping today! The sunglasses will likely be another 9 working days!!

OT question but:

I have a high prescription (-6.25 near sighted meaning i cannot see far) and when i wear my glasses my eyes appear smaller. Like the opposite that happens when far sighted people look like they have big eyes because of the magnification.

If I get thin lenses, will this fix the problem or does this happen regardless the kind of lenses I get?

Mine was 'in fullfilment' last night and they appeared at my house today. Not too shabby, ordered May 11th, arrived 14th.

Glasses came in a glasses box and also a soft drawstring carrycase. They even included a neat little tool for fixing them.

Overall very impressed and won't even think of looking elsewhere next time I need specs.

You miss understood.. ppl were having success with their orders placed on that day go through either them not being in the GTA or placing their order after 12:30 that day because technically the 1000 pairs sold out at 12:30 and only GTA orders were supposed to be honoured.

they ship using FedEx and Canada Post.

FedEx Express takes 1 day (or even less) for shipping.

Canada Post will take about 2 to 3 days.

I live in Scarborough, and when my order was shipped on Wednesday night, I got it next day before 12pm. Note, Clearly Contacts ship from Vancouver. So I guess most ppl who used FedEx as their shipping option will get it sooner.

Might make some Torontonians upset, but it's nice to know people outside of the GTA got them. Other than to hit a dense area, makes no sense they advert for major cities when broadband penetration in Canada is fairly high. They potentially lose exposure to many marketable areas. They should promo province to province and their IT dept should ensure that it's new customers only.

How they conduct their business is well their business. I only care about my satisfaction. If they want my repeat business they'll do what it takes, they can chalk it up to the pitfalls of buying fashion items online. At this point I would much rather pay the full retail price for glasses and get the top notch service I get locally.

anyone got glasses to fit their face perfectly? cause mine doesn't and i hope the local optical shops would calibrated it for me even though I didn't purchase anything from them. :lol:

anyone got glasses to fit their face perfectly? cause mine doesn't and i hope the local optical shops would calibrated it for me even though I didn't purchase anything from them. :lol:



i know Lenscrafters do adjustments for free, even if you didn't buy the glasses from their store.

did anyone receive their glasses with the 1.50 Standard Lens and had a prescription of 2.75 to 3.00? is it on the thick side? they said its only recommended for prescriptions under 2.00..

so you called in for an exchange, and had fedex to pick it up?

I just called in and had mine exchanged to a different pair. They picked up the cost to ship back and he waived the shipping fee on the new pair. i did have to pay $30 to upgrade to 1.67 lens - oh well still pretty darn cheap.

What's amazing is that they're also cross-shipping the order and he also gave me one extra free exchange due to my concerns about the frames fitting properly.

Pretty impressed so far with their service.

(we both live in 905) A call to their customer service got nowhere other to inform me that the order was cancelled! They don't even send a notification!
Way to go, Clearly Contacts, a great way to piss off potential customers by offering free glasses and then backing out!
I would never use these guys for anything!

The website showed me that the order was being prepared, but the phone call told me it was canceled..

ClearlyContacts is awesome! Even better then your local glasses hut/store!

They delivery the goods within days, unlike the local guys take over weeks if not months to get contacts/glasses ready.

I like how to charge only after the goods are sent! =D

Maybe you were too late to order...?

I ordered with the wrong prescription. Contacted their customer service, they gave me a return label and will send back my glasses with new lenses. So far their customer service is awesome IMO. Hopefully they deliver on their promise.

Oh and it was delivered to a 905 address as well.

I had really good experience with them. I called them to change the prescription like a week after I placed this order and although they have it done and ready to ship, they modified for my immediately.

I'm in the 905 area as well.

I deserved to have my order cancelled but I was never told either, nor was I refunded. I called to find out my order had been cancelled and "oh, we will give you a refund". IMO the refunded should have happened when the order was cancelled, not later.

I swear people are getting bitchier every day.

I love my "free" glasses (paid $30 something for the lens upgrade). They've won me as a customer. I'll definitely buy glasses from them in the future. Too bad their selection of sunglasses is so minuscule or else I'd order a pair.

Pretty strange that you didn't get a cancellation email - maybe it got stuck in a junk folder. If you read the thread, tons of people got them so they were obviously sending them out. They will refund your money, too, if they cancel your order. I think it's probably taking longer because so many people who were not qualified tried to order anyway, so they have lots of refunds to do.

I guess that's just what happens with the RFD effect... lots of people trying to scam when they don't qualify = longer turnaround times to deal with cancelled orders.
