Hey guys, I want to get a SSD hard drive for my laptop. I've wanted one since I got it a year ago, but prices were ridiculous then and although they're expensive, they're reasonably affordable now.

I don't keep too much on my laptop so 60GB can suffice although I'd really like 100GB or so to be comfortable and so I have space to experiment with other OS.

My price range would be under $300 although I'd be happier keeping it around $200 or so.

Thanks RFD!

a 60GB OCZ Vertex will run about $255
a 30GB is about $174

They're generally considered the 'second best' SSD drives after the Intel X25 series

OCZ Vertex is the one that's most well known.
You can also choose any other Indilinx based SSD and they'll be good, like the G.Skill Falcon series.

However, the price difference you pay for a Vertex will get you better support via firmware upgrades. I believe the Vertex already has a firmware update out that supports TRIM command and I'm not sure when you'll see that with the G.Skill, if ever.

Unless you really need it I'd wait it out to around Christmas .. should be double the capacity and 1/2 the price as now. Source: Daily Tech (http://www.dailytech.com/SSD+Prices+Could+be+Cut+in+Half+Due+to+New+JMicron +Flash+Controller++32nm+NAND+Flash/article14176.htm)

Lets hope the JMicron controller doesn't suck like their last one.
