If insurance company never make a payment on an accident, and there is no police report, should one report the accident when changing insurance company (especially when changing province)?

Best thing is to check out your driver's record from the Ministry to be sure before you apply.

If it is on your auto plus report, then the insurance company will find out. If its there and you don't tell them you'll be cancelled for non disclosure. You definately don't want this on your insurance.

It's the driver's abstract. That's the same info insurance company obtained. Is it not? It indicates whether you have any accidents etc..

no ... two different reports

the abstract from the MTO shows your tickets

'autoplus' shows claims history ...... if your insurance company knew about the accident .... or the third party claimed it ... it'll be on your record

Thanks for all the replies. I was asking because a friend was invovled in a minor accident and she wanted to know if it's better to pay for the damage herself. The damage is probably only a few hundered dollars, and it looks like a 50/50 fault, but the other party involved insisted on solving this through insurance. My friend is now with a local insurance company, and is planning to move, so she will have to get a new insurance company.

So it looks like the accident will be on her file and of course has to be reported (to new insurance company). If the insurance company doesn't pay for the repair, would the accident still affect her insurance premium with a future company? (I read that if it's the same company and the insurance company didn't pay, they wouldn't increase the premium).

NOPE, the drivers abstract only shows convictions and lic suspensions. You would need an AUTO PLUS report - this will show anything accident & claims related regarding insurance claims.

She can also ask for an experience letter from her insurer - they will disclose all claims she has had with them. She may want to obtain this for her files.
