Ok so here is my situation. Me and my brother have a cell phone line under one account. We are level 5 because I guess the 2 lines generates revenue faster. He just told me he wanted to upgrade to the iphone 3gs when it comes out on june 19th aswell. Both out contracts end on Jan 2010 so we are both eligible for an upgrade. The problem comes with pricing. I have gone into 1 rogers store in the mall, and called rogers twice all getting different answers.

rogers store: we can upgrade both lines to the iphone with the promotional pricing $199 + 3yr contract, as long as both upgrades are done within 24hrs (after that level 5 drops to level 1)

Rogers rep #1: We can upgrade both lines to the iphone, but the first one will get the promotional pricing, second line will get promotional pricing + acivation fee $35.

Rogers rep #2: We can only upgrade one line to the iphone with the promotional pricing, after that your account drops to level 1 and if you want to upgrade the next phone on the same day, you will have to pay close to retail...

so confusing! anyone know a definate answer?

Last thing, I want to order the iphone through rogers because I can negotiate a better deal with them compared to going into a store. However, if rogers wont let me upgrade both phones at a good pricing I will go back to the rogers store in the mall to get it. Is it possible to negotiate with rogers first to get a plan, and just pick up the hardward at the store? or will I have to sign a specific plan through the store?

thanks

You should be able to upgrade both lines at the same time.

Doesn't matter where you do it. Get them to waive the $35 admin fee.

thanks gee for your reply, so based on that you are saying rep #1 is correct. Rep #2's reason for not letting the second line get promotional pricing was that because we share the same account, getting both at the promotional price would be double dipping so to speak, thus after the first line buys it at the promotional price, the second line starts over to level 1 and buys at retail...dealing with rogers reps is frustrating!

Both lines should qualify for promotional pricing.

You are not really double dipping. I assume you have a family plan. You still pay $15 + $6.95 + 0.50 + Tax for the second line and you pool your mintues with the first line.

Family plans are a rip off. For a few dollars more, get your own line and no need to share minutes. You can probably get them to throw in free incoming and Rogers to Rogers too. They are not going to let you pool data. It is better to just split the lines.

Assuming Jan 2007 contract start dates, and that your total revenue is just over 2501 mark to be Tier 5...that averages out to ~$83/month..not THAT bad in the big picture..but you can do better.

If your revenue is far higher than 2500, then definately, you are at Tier 5 not because of the reason you gave, but because you guys are spending FARRRRRRR too much lol...or just using your cellphones too much (without a proper Uber hook-up  RFD stylez).

Assuming the last time either line did a hup was when your contract started-we'd be looking at Jan 2007.

That means that both phones are either THIS MONTH or NEXT MONTH tenure eligible for hup pricing.

30months from last hup., REGARDLESS of your revenue. Which means that you guys are going to squander your revenue. Why? Because regardless of if your revenue was $0 or $9000...your STILL eligible for tenure pricing lolz. OUCH. I think tenure hups are 3yr price (promo pricing). It doesn't matter if you do them 5mins apart of years apart., the 2nd phone will still be tenure eligible whenever it is hupped. You can take that to the bank. That's the whole point of tenure eligibility.

You got that right thurrrr.

You should be able to upgrade both lines at the same time...
It's not that simple.

If one of the lines did a hup AFTER Jan 2007, then the correct decision would be to hup THAT line first, as it would suck up the revenue (being a revenue-based hup), THEN once that is done, the other line which is tenure eligible would STILL be able to do the hup.

If you did it the reverse, the tenured line would (just because of the way the system handles things) take the revenue along with the hup, thereby leaving ZILCH for the other line, which isn't tenured, and with a $0 revenue bucket would not be eligible but for Tier 0/1...IF they even make an exception. lol.

lol clear as mud:p. thanks for the post bubbletea, it really seems like you know what you're talking about, unfortunately im still pretty confused. I dont understand completely

I am not on a family plan, I think what happen in the past was my brothers line was just added into my account in Jan 2007 instead of starting a new one. So we have 2 lines in this account, each of our plans is about $40-45 SAF and tax included every month (How is that paying too much?, we have a decent plan for the ammount we are paying)

I dont understand what you mean by "That means that both phones are either THIS MONTH or NEXT MONTH tenure eligible for hup pricing." what is tenure?....Our contract started Jan 10 2007 so its been 30 months as of June 10 2009. Also, I thought HUP is only a year if it wasnt a smart phone. (phone we got back in 2007 was a motorola razr and rokr)
