its an alrite deal, definately not hot when comparable topflite/dunlops run around $200.

Just beware, topflite's arent known for quality so if you misshit, constantly hit the ground the heads may fly off.

but then people who constantly mis-hit or hit the ground shouldn't really spend more than $300 on a set of clubs. maybe even $150.

That's about as big as a minomer as they come. You are supposed to hit the ground if you golf (it's called a divot), so the heads should be flying off every club for everyone that has ever bought TopFlite, right?

Topflite is more known for their balls than for golf clubs. I personally use some Topflite balls but only because they are relatively cheap.

For $279, you are getting the whole set including the driver, woods, hybrids, chipper, putter, and the golf bag. Not a bad deal for a beginner because buying these separately will be more expensive. I don't think you can find a complete set with a bag for any less for any brand.

The only disadvantage is that you can't try them! Try to go to Golf Town or Nevada Bob's to see if they have a Top flite set that you can try in their golf simulator and compare it to other clubs. You need to try them before you know if they are good or not.

Also, it looks like it doesn't have a 3 or 4 iron and replaces them with hybrids. They will be easier to hit for beginners but some people don't like them.

On the other hand, if you want to put together a set with a bag with a better brand (eg. Wilson, some Nike, Tommy Armour, etc.) (not Taylor Made or Callaway) at clearance, maybe the clubs are $249 to $299 for irons, another $100-150 for the woods, $25-50 for putter, and another $70-80 for the bag. You might need to spend another $200-300, but you may have a much better set that will last you for years.

Buy used. Try the BST at Toronto Golf Nuts. Lots of reasonable people there. Much better to get quality clubs used vs new crappy ones.

If you really need new...check out Golftown's website/store for clearance and specially priced golf clubs. Recently, GT was selling a set of Wilson Staff Di7 or Nickent 3dx irons for less than $250 each. Probably can add a $50 driver or a 3 wood (non brand name), a $50 putter and a cheap stand bag (get last year's model for cheap). A mesh bag of used golf balls are typically much less than $1 per ball...try Walmart (cheap new balls are around $1/ball).

TGN http://www.torontogolfnuts.com or the Ottawa Golf Forum http://forum.ottawagolf.com/ have buy/sell sections which are much cheaper than new....often they are slightly used, but in very good condition. Bought several clubs and iron sets at both forums over the past several years. Look at the seller's history....especially if one is not "local". Some older brand name iron sets are priced in the $75-$150 range. Seen one forged iron set recently for less than $150....a couple of years ago, I had paid twice as much for the exact same irons.

Totally agree. Just get a set of used golf clubs for that price. You may get lucky and get a nice brand name.

golftown had the di7's on for $228 from $599 and these were brand new. A quality club at that price. you can easily piece together a set from golftown for about 600 bucks and its quality will be much better than those top flites. try going there and asking for clearance demos. always a great price when you find the one you like. slowly pieceing togehter a quality set will be cheaper than replacing a crappy old set in the long run in most cases anyways.

When I say hit the ground, I mean digging deep into the ground. To the matter of clubs heads flying off, go look around, its typical of low end beginner golf sets. I have had many(cheap) club heads fall apart on me

I currently use the Wilson Staff Di7's. Excellent build quality, but good luck finding them in store. (Shipping is reasonable). But spending $600 on a set isn't wise for an amateur golfer, definately a used set (there's an abundance available in the classifieds) or a low end beginner set. The replay value is next to nil, however if there is damage, it isnt as big a blow to the pocket as a new set.(replacements are cheap if you look in the right places)

I completely agree. I have had 2 heads fly off my drivers on the driving range. Once a 1 wood and the other time a 3 wood. The irons are solid but the woods are a bit suspect.

The only caveat to that is that Costco is very good about replacing the set. Later into the year the clubs go on sale so you end up getting money back in Costco gift certificates.

Pretty good for a hack golfer.

I originally bought the older set of Top Flights from Costco for $350 or something like that.
After 2 price adjustments in 6 months, my final price was $150.
Of course this is banking on the idea that these will eventually go on clearance if a new set comes out just like my set did.

Overall they're a pretty good set for a beginner.

I didn't know Costco returns the difference if the price drops? Is this correct?

yeah costco will do price adjustments as long as they still have stock.
i'm not sure if they've changed the timeframe in which u can do this, but if you see stuff you've bought that's now on sale or even on clearance, go find your receipt and get an adjustment.

You can get a complete set of clubs of much higher quality on eBay for a fraction of that price.

How about this deal at rockbottomgolf (http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/adams-golf-2008-tight-lies-irons-set.html)- A full set of "Adams Golf -2008 Tight Lies 4-SW Hybrid Irons Graphite/Steel" for $139 (US) or best offer!!

Even with shipping and conversion to Canadian dollars, you are doing WAY better than a crappy set of Top Flights...

I am a beginner and I bought these in early May and have been playing with them for about 2 months. They are pretty good. The driver is good as well. I hate the hybrids!!! But if you are just getting into golf and want to begin with a brand new set.... then I would say that this is a great set. I bought for around $350+tax and I am going to go back and get $75+tax in credit for this product. Honestly the bag they provide you with this set is just simply awesome. Better than the wilson or nike or callaway or taylor made bags out there. the legs on the bag are a little weak but who cares when ur bag is in the back of the cart.

I would give the set a 8.5/10.

i got a dunlop full set in about 2005-2006 to start for my golfing....paid around $180 at canadian tire.. pretty good deal... i still use the irons and pw/sw i got from that dunlop set... ive replaced the driver, woods and a fairway hybrid... not cuz they werent good..i just felt like having something better name brand lol... i suck with my driver and wood... but heck.. im pretty decent at pounding out some iron shots with my dunlop irons... just last nite i kept getting screwed because i was overhitting shots lol....

all in all.. a lower end set can still work out to be pretty good for u...

Or maybe he was referring to the driver? I really hope you're not causing divots while teeing off with your driver...

Yes and no to these clubs.

Yes if you are a beginner, as in you've shot hardly any balls. The good thing is that you get a titanium driver with this set, i believe. Anything else will just get crushed and break. Secondly, a bag is worth about 35+ on its own, and who owns topflite now? callaway! not saying their clubs are the same build quality of a x22, but they're not garbage clubs.

No if you're anything more. As someone else said in this thread, Golftown has Di7's (wilson staff) which are a great club for a mid to high handicapper. I personally like the feel of them, more than the mizuno and callaways. I know the loft is a little higher, but the lofts are consistent. Also R7s are 149.99 from here and there, Nike Slingshots are under 399 now adays, generaal putters (paradise, wilson, not really scotty camerons lol) are all in the 30 and under category.

In the end i would say yes to this because no matter what clubs you get you will have to piece together what you like in the end, if you're a beginner you just want a feel of what you do when you hit, slice, chop, hook, duff, skull, or fairly clean.

Clubs are fine. I have golfed for 20 years still not very good but these

clubs are nice.

If anyone is near Milton the Bomar liquidation outlet sells Costco returns.

I bought 2 sets last year at $140 each, only issue was damaged boxes.

Try Bomar if you are close may get lucky.

I bought the Topflite set from costco for the same price as my first set 4 years ago.

Mini review - -

Pros

-Hard to beat the value for a beginners set - everything you need for a good price

-Irons are very forgiving

-Hybrids are much easier to hit than long irons (although I now much prefer long irons)

-Costco's liberal returns if anything breaks or you just don't like them

Cons

-Driver face collapsed after a month - Exchanged the set but never hit the new driver

-Flex is more like Senior than Mens regular

-Bag was a little on the flimsy side

I have played a lot in 4 years, brought my Handicap down to a single digit, and upgraded to a set of Mizuno MP60 irons and replaced all other pieces... but it was a pretty good set to learn the game on. Other than a new driver the first thing I replaced/added was a decent wedge.

If you are learning or only play a couple rounds a year than I say go for it.

stop arguing with him about how many pieces. it's irrelevant to this thread. he's talking about his set he bought at walmart for $153, not the set at costco.
