Hi guys,

The lawnmower I bought came with a bottle of MTD "SAE 10W30" lawnmower engine oil that went into the engine before my first use. After about two uses I noticed that the oil level dropped a little, but not by much, so I went out and bought a bottle of regular 10W30 motor oil at CT to use for top-ups. Now, before I go and totally stuff up the engine by using any more of the regular 10W3, is there really a difference between lawnmower engine oil and regular car engine oil of the same viscocity rating (in this case, 10W30).

Can I safely continue to use the el-cheapo CT oil? :?:

Thanks!
McFly

Yes. it is a 4 cycle engine and el-cheapo oil will work just fine. Don't go nuts here. it is a low use, low stress, low rpm engine. it does not need super lubricants.

I usually buy CT/motomaster 4-cycle Lawn Mower oil. It's usually the same price, sometimes cheaper, than automotive oil. It's formulated for small engines. Doesn't have all the detergents that automotive oil has which can damage the engine.
