I was checking Best Buy's flyer for this week and noticed a 42" Toshiba 1080p flatscreen being advertised for $599. I realized this was probably a misprint but went into a store anyways. As I thought the sales clerk pointed me to a bulletin board at the front door with a notification of the misprint and the proper price. At what point do stores have to honour advertised prices? Could I have insisted they sell me this unit at the advertised price or does the in store correction take away any responsibility for the misprint?

A retailer is allowed to have misprints in their promotional material providing they take reasonable steps to correct it ASAP, in this case by posting a notice at store entrances. To make a case against the retailer you'd have to prove that they intended to deceive or mislead. That's very difficult to do. Even if you were to succeed, the result would likely be criminal charges rather than being forced to sell at the incorrect price.

Retailer only has to honour the advertised price in the province in Quebec. I still remember the ipod Touch fiasco ($69 price) where everyone got cancellations except for those living in Quebec.

Not all Quebecers got that $69 IPod Touch. My order was canceled and I got nowhere with Best Buy HQ. Was going to file a complaint with the Quebec consumer affairs dept but I couldn't even get through to speak to someone. After a few days I gave up.

Listed prices anywhere is not a contract so the retailer does not need to honour it.
Until they charge your credit card and give you the item, the store has no obligation to sell you anything and any price.
