I stayed at the Metropark Kowloon Hotel about two years ago while visiting Hong Kong. The room size is good and kept quite clean, although the MTR station is a bit of a further distance walk to Mongkok.

Try Royal Plaza located right on top of Monkok East MTR station (used to be Monkok KCR station). Room is big and is 5 star hotel. If you stay 7 or more consecutive days, it is only 600HKD per night. It is a good hotel. Go to their website and check it out

I stayed at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Causeway Bay/Happy Valley last time. It's about a 5-10 minute walk to Times Square. It's not super close, but the hotel was a decent price.

I stayed at BP International which is within 5 minutes walk of the China Ferry Terminal and 3 minutes of the Jordan MTR station. Their long stay rate special for June was at $480 HKD. Overall, I think it is a good location. The rooms are clean if a bit small, but then again I haven't been in other HK hotel rooms before.

thanks for the suggestion of the bp. i know that place and actually stayed there back in 2007. location was very convenient. good access to star ferry and mtr, steps from nathan road and there is a Wellcome and 7-11 across the street. their website shows $120 cad/night for the time i'm looking at. we're staying for a week so i'm really trying to find something for closer to $80/night. i guess i'll have to keep looking.

I am hoping to go there in Nov. too and hope the prices will go down as we get closer. Even though their advertised price is $120, it might be possible to guarantee a reservation at slightly below $100 if you call them to negotiate. This is said to be true of most North American hotels, but I don't know if it applies to hotels in Asia. Just get a $5 phone card and start calling. Gotta put in some work for a deal I guess.

A bit further away; nearly new hotel in Tsuen Wan (across the street from Tsuen Wan West MTR station)
There are promotions for a room @ HKD650 per night (~$90-100 CAD depending on FX) http://www.lhotelhk.com/files/image/650(3).jpg
Weekly rate starting @ $4050 (HKD 580 per night): http://www.lhotelhk.com/files/image/LS(3).jpg

The area around the hotel was recently redeveloped; there's a new shopping plaza (Citywalk) next door with stores like Marks & Spencer, Uniqlo, 7/11; and a more traditional shopping mall with Jusco, Park & Shop about 5 minutes away

It saddens me to see that $90 CAN/night is considered cheap, but that's Hong Kong for you.
Anyone have any recommendations for apartments or loft rentals for 2-4 weeks?
