View Full Version : laptop can't connect online with ethernet cable

I'm in HK trying to connect my laptop online with an ethernet cable but it gives me a "Limited connection", which doesn't let me do anything. the laptop is hooked up directly from the cable modem. how can i fix this problem? thanks in advance

Power cycle your cable modem.
Release renew your ip address. (Make sure you don't have any static settings.)

Just tried that, it still says unverified network (the laptop uses Vista btw).

Do you have Windows Firewall or some other Firewall running? Is the network connection going through the firewall?

I'd tell you guys, but I'm Vista-incompetent. How do I check?

UPDATE: problem resolved! first guy was right, I just unplugged the power from the modem for 10 sec and it's working perfectly now. thanks everyone :)
