Hey all,

I want to host a website. and i'm going to be uploading lot of things on it and posting lot of infos.

So i need unlimited bandwidth and unlimited storage ( if not highest storage possible ), unlimited pages.

Whats the best and reliable web hosting ? My aim is to keep this website running forever.

ps. is there anything else that i need to look at when hosting a website??

Thanks for any help

i have a site that lets students from my university share lecture recordings so naturally I'd need a large amount of storage without restrictions. I've been using lunarpages for the last 2 years without issues.

Pros:
-The only time you'll have a problem with them is if you're hosting illegal content (and even then, it's not like they'll know until someone complains).
-Uptime/reliability is great
-Support is good too.
-They generally let you do your own thing.
-Costs as low as $4.95/month for unlimited storage/bandwidth and by unlimited, it really is unlimited. I've used over 50gb of storage space without any issues.

Cons:
-Their servers aren't as fast as some others I've encountered. On my rogers connection in the GTA, I get upto 300k/s vs 800-1200k/s I can get on some other websites. It takes 1s more to connect to my lunarpages website vs my website on another server. This is expected though and for unlimited storage, I can't complain. I have a lot of php scripting going on so that could slow down the site a bit too.
-You cannot store files by which they mean, there must be a link to every single file on your website from one of your pages. So for example, I can't upload a backup of my computer to a hidden directory on their servers. I'd have to make it so the public can download my backup.
One way around this restriction is to password protect pages and link from there. They've never asked for a password to my site nor do they really check if all my content is linked.

That said, I've noticed two types of website servers. One that are good for storage, hence they have high storage space and bandwidth for a low cost but are generally slower and may have the occasional outage. The other type are good for just pages. These have low storage space and low bandwidth for a higher cost but are extremely fast and extremely reliable. So in the grand scheme of things it's a tradeoff between space and reliability/speed.
What I do with my website is host the pages on a more expensive, extremely reliable server, and host the files on a high storage space server. This way there's no interruption for users.
You should be fine in terms of uptime etc with lunarpages though. They've been pretty good with me over the past 2 years.

+ 1 Lunarpages. Have 10+ sites on it without issue, and their support is great.

Okay.

1. You don't need "unlimited" bandwidth.
2. You don't need "unlimited" disk space.
3. Your website WILL NOT run "forever".

Legitimate websites, even those with A LOT of stuff (incl. DOZENS of lecture recordings) probably won't use up to 10% (if not way less) quotas of most web hosting companies.

Then you need a dedicated server, or servers (plural). This place (RFD) is running on multiple servers, for example. But then again, "unlimited" this or that is NOT your answer. You may start with WebHostingTalk.
