Looking for a new desktop computer + monitor

Family is looking for a new desktop package to replace a long-standing Pentium 3, and I'm seeking some advice.

I have previously replaced a hard drive, added a network card and a cd writer but do not consider to have enough experience to build a system on my own.

On top of the usual, the computer will be used for some video editing, some photoshop and moderate gaming.

Considering the longevity of the previous desktop, I'm looking for a system that will last (before becoming obsolete) with a more recent processor, upgradable memory and possibly a blu-ray drive.

Budget is under 1800$ including monitor.

I would like to have your opinion on the following desktop:

Packaged with 23 inch HP monitor: 1700$

Thanks

If you are in the GTA you can go to local computer stores and get them to build you a computer that is more up to date than what futureshop can provide. Or you can purchase online from NCIX and pay about $50 for them to build your computer.

Should be a good start ... as musch faster than the FS machine, gaming wise for sure. More upgrade friendly I'd suspect also.

$ 63 - Antec 300
$129 - Corsair HX620W CMPSU-620HX
$229 - Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P (AMIR $20)
$309 - i7 920
$ 38 - Scythe Mugen 2
$122 - Corsair PC3-1333 6GB (TR3X6G1333C9)
$288 - MSI GTX 275 Twin Frozr OC
$ 99 - WD 1TB "black"
$ 24 - 2 x Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E (1200rpm)
$ 25 - Samsung DVD-RW 22x (SH-S223F/BEBS)
$130 - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium - 64-Bit OEM (should be able to get Free Win7 upgrade)
------
$1456

As always check pricecanada.com for the best prices.

Wait on the Dell Deals this week for a new LCD, either a 23 or 24" should come up.

I'm sure if you buy all the parts from NCIX, you can get someone here on RFD to build it for you for some pizza + beer or whatever.
Or just pay the $50 assembly fee to have them put it together @ NCIX.

Thanks for the replies!

Living on the island of Montreal, NCIX might be an option.

Thanks for the build, will look into it. I could always add the Blu-Ray later for cheaper.
