WRT54GL wireless issue

I'm having a bunch of issues with my wrt54GL. The biggest one is that every computer in the house that isn't wired, is connecting at ridiculously slow speeds. I've scanned the channel (10) and no one else in the area is using it, I've increase the tx rate to 80 and I've rearranged the router so it sits closer to the middle of my room. Even so, the computers upstairs (3) get a connection at 36.6mb/s, while my internet TV box and computer downstairs connect at 18 mb/s! Is there any setting that's off here?

channel 10 is a overlapped channel

1,6,11 are the only ones that are independent

Bring one of the affected computers into the same room as the router. If the problem persists, the radio may be dying.

Here's a bit of background on this statement: http://www.moonblinkwifi.com/2point4freq.cfm

What you should to do is check who has the strongest signals in your area, and pick a channel as far away as possible from them.

I would try putting the router on the same floor as the tv box and possibly hard wire it to the router. Then the 3 PC's can run wireless, 36 mbps should be more than enough for them.

try assigning the wireless clients a static ip.
dont rely on dhcp and see if that works.

As long as the channel you choose is 1, 6 or 11, you are correct.

I changed from channel 2 to 11, and went from 83% signal strength to 100%, while at the same time *dropping* my broadcast power from 60mw to 37mw.

How do you determine/know which channel is the best?

I'm using dd-wrt. Does it offer similar capability for scanning?
