I'm Italian so veal sandwiches have been in my family for decades. It's one of those special delicate sandwiches you have once in a while but not too much.

I find that Molisana Bakery on Creditview/Bristol (Mississauga) makes excellent veal sandwiches, next to San Francesco's Foods.

Share your veal sandwich stories and where you get them!

The best I've tasted is at Commisso Bros. & Racco at 8 Kincort St, York, ON. Distant second for me (although some prefer it) is California Sandwiches. (http://www.californiasandwiches.com/location.html)

Colleague highly recommended some place in St. Lawrence Market...so I went with him to try it out.

Lo and behold, there was definitely a huge line-up at this place at lunch.

So I got the veal with the works......peppers, onions etc.

Greatest alright....greatest runs evar!!! Not sure what it was but I had an upset stomach as a result of that place.

So definitely don't eat there...

If so I've had several there, no ill effects. Pretty good sangweech actually. About the same as Californias. Ambience sucks though.

it's a hands down tie between Californias and SanFrans... they both make it amazing but are slightly different. you must try it from either of these places before you think about putting another place on the top of your list

My new fave place. Even though you have to pay for toppings, they are extremely generous with them. Love their hot peppers.

I'm a sauce guy and rank my preference as follows: tasty sauce; freshly cooked veal; price; fresh crusty buns; hot peppers; additional toppings.

I like Moustachio's sauce but overall, it's just alright and not worth the effort of going to St. Lawrence Market and lining up.

Commiso's used to be my favourite but their sauce isn't as good as others, IMO. Price and hours of operation is great though.

California Sandwiches is great too, especially their freshly cooked veal, but they are not generous with the overpriced toppings.

I'm not trying to threadcrap, but veal is actually one of the very few meat products I refuse to eat. And to make it clear, I am not vegetarian. Maybe things have changed now, but I remember reading an article about the disproportionate amount of antibiotics used in veal compared to other meats.

California is tasty but the meat is extremely tough, almost more like flank steak than veal.

I like Vinnie's Panini on Dupont west of Christie. The spicy peppers are extreme, I ordered them once thinking they were just "North American" spicy. It burned (for two days if you catch my meaning).

Dude, My neighbor ordered like 55 Veal cutlets from Desserts plus for a birthday party, we made our own sandwiches, I died, it was amazing, but they don't make Veal sandwiches there, now I'm wondering if I should just buy the veal and get my own buns.

Ah Life is tough.

Yup, north of finch. Sucks that they charge for the toppings though. Their hot peppers are also REALLY hot (at least mine still contained seeds and I think that made it way too hot).

Not to threadjack, but have you folks tried making your own veal sandwiches?

I've come up with a pretty simple recipe....

Veal Scallopini
Italian Breadcrumbs with extra dried parsley, garlic powder and grated parmesan cheese
Dip Veal Scallopini in egg and coat with breadcrumbs
Hot pan fry in melted butter -> doesn't take too long as scallopini is really thin.

In a separate fry pan, sautee toppings such as onions, roasted red peppers, green peppers in a bit of butter.

Put cooked veal in baking dish that has a thin layer of tomato sauce. Coat breaded veal in a thin layer of tomato sauce as well.

Top veal with mozzarella cheese -> put another layer of veal if you wish...add cheese and toppings.

Stick in an oven preheated to 350 for 10 minutes or until cheese melted.

Place on a nice fluffy italian bun.

Enjoy!

so just finished eating my molisana's veal sandwich -> have to say that after all the hype, it was a bit of a disappointment. They're not awful however I probably won't go back.

I didn't like the fact that the veal was premade in one of those takeout trays, slightly above room temperature. The peppers/mushrooms/onions were precooked. If everything was warmed up and nicely baked together such that the cheese melted, I wouldn't have cared, but basically got a slightly warm sandwich with the cheese barely melted. ALso didn't like the fact that they weren't tightly packed and stuff sorta poured out everywhere. The veal tasted a lot more like ground beef.

San Frans (Britannia/Creditview) is a favourite and we find their veal sandwiches go do down like butter, they're nicely layered with cheese, tomato sauce and veal and they always seem to take 10-15 minutes to make, and are still quite hot by the time we get them home.

Went to a Molisana's Bakery in Brampton, on Bovaird.

Not sure if they are connected, but this veal sandwich was pretty good.
I loved the bread. It was soft and fluffy and did a great job of mopping up the sauce. $6.50 for the sandwich. The veal was already made and sitting in a container.

So now i gotta try San Frans, if they make everything fresh.

I wish that were true, I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt as I live so close. After *several* disgusting attempts at pizza, pasta, and veal (I LOVE veal sandwiches) I gave up and started expressing my experiences here and to friends. Perhaps it is because I am used to having GOOD pizza and veal sandwiches. I grew up directly beside a san francesco's.. I miss living beside that place...

Deri Italian Bakery at 640 Bloor Street in Mississauga. Close to little Caesars pizza, Bloor and Mississauga Valley.

Excellent Veal sandwiches, topped with provolone cheese, muchrooms and peppers. cost about $7. I've been going there for years. I now live a bus ride away but stop by every so many months when I have a craving for veal and crazy bread. :)

I went to Mario's San Francesco at Dixie/Eglinton. Big sandwich and i got the works, which came to $8.75.

Dunno why it costed that much, since i didnt get a receipt after.

Decent sandwich, but the veal was a bit dried out and chewy. Lots of breading.

Hot chick working behind the counter, among a couple of older ladies so YMMV.

This is probably not the same as San francesco's that everyone is talking about.
