Well I pretty much need to know how reliable mazda 6's are, because my parents are getting a new car, sorta for me, but they have a thing against mazdas... claiming they may not be reliable enough, as you dont hear great things from them like Honda and Toyata. Im out of ideas on how to convince them to get the mazda 6. So far, their cons are related to it's reliability issue, (why pay so much for a car like that? why not just buy an accord) or something like that. Any ideas on what I can say? or better, any mazda 6 owners wanna say something good about their car here? haha my dad might like it if he sees it :). Thanks

I think your parents are right about reliability, accord has better proven record than Mazda 6.

Isn't 2010 Mazda6 all-new one (as 2010 being its first year)? So we don't know if that model year is reliable or not.

Exterior wise, it trumps over older gen Mazda6.

Drive the accord and mazda6 side by side. If you enjoy driving, you'll be more likely to sacrifice a little bit of reliability and get the Mazda6. (Mazdas are way more fun to drive than Honda/Toyota which i find boring) If you just want a point A to B car, get the Accord

I was going to first joke how Mazda is essentially a Ford, but look at what I found while reading another thread in this forum:

Turns out, Ford Fusion is quite a quality car, on par with Accord/ Camry, and shares a lot of stuff with Mazda 6.. Maybe even better to drive..
So I'd say, go check the Fusion, it may be a better bet than Mazda, Camry or Accord.. I'd definitely avoid the latter two. Check out Sonata's as well.

:Dpretty much most parent would think Honda and Toyota is more reliable than any car in the universe :D (including myself)

i used to drive 4 generation Honda Account ( 92, 96, 99 and 06)

and i switch to a mazda 3

are you looking to lease or own the viechle ?

if it's leasing, i would say they are pretty good quility, nothing small need to be fix and just the routine tune up and oil change would be fine.

But if you are thinking of owning the car, i wouldn't recommand it becuase mazda has very bad paint. Paint wear off pretty easy and the rusting of mazda is bad and fast.

i have my Mazda 3 and my dad's Accord purchase at the same time but the bottom of my car is start rusting pretty badly and my dad's car still pretty good.

hope this help

you're sacrificing a lot of reliability compared to the accord. Mazdas are more fun to drive but way more unreliable than a Honda.

I'll take Ford/GM reliability over a mazda anyday.

What about the Nissan Altima? There are a bunch of reviews that say it's fun to drive (relatively, compared to its class). Like the Mazda 6, it's a little cheaper than the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

And reliability wise, it's near the end of the current generation model cycle, so it should be reliable (kinks worked out.... CVT reliability much better).

Good find. I'm not a big believer in Honda and Toyota being the most reliable cars anyways. I'm hoping the op finds a way to convince his parents to go for the Mazda because IMO the Mazda 6 looks much better and will last just as long as the Honda and Toyota if taken care of properly.

I believe that as well:)

The fact is, I absolutely love the mazda 6, If they'r getting a car at that price range, MAZDA 6 is my first choice. I understand Honda / Toyota > all when it comes to parents, but is mazda horrible? I think not. ..hmmm. On a rating of 1-10 how reliable are mazda cars? =D 10 being extremely reliable

It is well priced, fun to drive, sexy, cost less to maintain AND you get what you pay for

+1!! My wife has a Mazda3 and its a great car; we've had no mechanical issues with it. My only complaint regarding Mazda is the amount of time the dealership takes to service the car... an oil change will take 5 hrs... depending on the day you take it in.

I own both an Accord and a Mazda 6. By NO means Mazda 6 comes even close to the Accord.

The Accord is a superior car in every sense, especially reliability. Both cars I own have over 200000 km,. The time and money spent on keeping the Accord on the road is less than 1/10 compared to what I spent on the Mazda. The handling and road feel on the Accord is way better too.

Granted, both cars are older models. Mayde the Mazda 6 has improved recently but from my past experience I will never buy another one.

Talk to any mechanic and see what he says :)

It also depends upon what age your parents are. If they are a little older, they may appreciate the less firm ride of an Accord as the Mazda tends to be a little more on the sporty side. Have them drive a few vehicles within the category, the Mazda 6, Accord, Camry and also the new Fusion. Let them decide what best suits their needs.

The Mazda3's have had an issue with premature rusting (e.g. like in 5 years) and cheaper, thinner paint. Not sure if those issues are there with the 6's but definitely worth looking into before you decide.

My dad has a Mazda6 for ~5 years now. Its been a solid reliable car. No issues at all. Now this is the older style, smaller than the new . IMHO, a perfect size, the new one is big, full size if you ask me, but they are competing with the current Camry, Accord, Altima etc. so its on par.

As far as reliability, no issues. My bro has an '04 Mazda 3 sport - it did have the rusting issue, but they replaced (under warranty) the two doors which started to show it. They were prompt and handled it well. I guess its how they handle the issues, and IMHO Mazda has been pretty good. So much so that I just bought a Mazda5.

My only qualms with new mazda6 is with the quality of materials on the interior, compared to the competition its flimsy and has cheap finishes. Major turn off was the center console/arm rest that squeaked like mad and rocked side to side by about an inch.

IMHO, Camry SE is a tremendous bargain in this category if you're looking for something a little more sporty like the mazda. Though the mazda definitely has the nicest exterior.

Mazda6 is very unreliable -

Very fun to drive car but had lots of problems with mine.

Including failed transmission -

But the Honda is boring - Go with a Nissan - you get reliability and fun to drive.

... sporty?? really, Toyota hasn't made anything sporty in a few years now. Everything is very blahh, reliable and good resale, but blah.. IMHO anyways.
Don't get me wrong I had a '92 Camry and still have a '99 Corolla - both rock solid reliable but their current line up is uninspiring, disappointing really - but thats just my opinion.
The Mazda6 is fun to drive, even the Accord

dont know whether or not to start a new thread to ask this question, but are the extended warranty stuff, worth it? Correct me if im wrong about this, Im not too sure how it works, but is it like, you buy the extended warranty, and mazda will replace anything after manufacturer warranty is void? ..once again is that worth it?

2004 V6 - The new model is probably better but I don't trust Mazda. - Also it is rusting, metal is perforated, sheet metal needs replacing now. Give it a miss and do yourself a favor.

Yeah...Mazda's are cheap...they get you when you need parts because thier parts can cost almost the same as luxury car parts.
