Hello,

I have a friend that is thinking of picking up a
2002 Mazda Protege
Automatic
134,500km
2.5L engine I think? Hard to tell from the pictures and it does not say in the ad.


I'm just wondering if there are any known issues with this car? Anything he should look into before he buys the car? He will be taking it to a trusted mechanic to get it checked out but before that is there anything to look at or anything he should know about these cars?

You mean 2002 protege. There was a 1.8L for some earlier models.

EGR valve goes early, but with the year and KM, it most likely has been changed. Rust is a major issue. Other than that, make sure the timing belt has been changed. Get a service history on the vehicle if at all possible.
