Lots of changes since... now the S360 is out that has DTS-HD decoding and some other nice features @ ~199 , then the S560 that has wireless and more RAM for ~300.

Heck, even the PS3 that was double the price of the 350 two yrs ago is down to $300.

For anyone who did buy one of these, as a current s350 owner, conrats you've made a good purchase!

A couple of recommendations:

1) upgrade the firmware (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=BDPS350)- this will increase your load times significantly

2) add 2GB of RAM to the USB slot in the back; Sony want you to use their proprietary (and over priced) USB sticks so put it in a tight recessed area that a normal usb stick will not fit into. A $15 workaround is to get a micro SD card reader dongle (http://www.cty.ca/ProductDetails.asp?pid=3600) and a 2GB Micro SD card (http://www.cty.ca/ProductDetails.asp?pid=2259)(for ~$8) and you will have much, much faster read times as your player will use this as RAM.

Good player...Remember to flash it to the lastest firmware if you use it to play AVCHD....prior to the latest firmware, I encountered problem playing AVCHD when I do chapter skip..ie after the skip sometimes the picture motion will became laggy, I had to stop the play and start again to correct it....after the flash, the problem seems fixed.

Like Saltypig said - try adding some ridiculous amount to your cart and see if it accepts it. If so, it is phantom stock.

I bought one anyways (why not take a chance) but my $20 off coupon didn't work either. If (and that's a big if) you actually get one, just call customer service and they will apply the coupon after the order is processed.

You are lucky... the staples near me has some really bad staff they try not to pm and are always saying its not the same product this and that... and if you do try to get them to do it they refuse to do 110% even the manager is a sleaze bag atleast one of the half dozen there is a sleaze bag...

The sony does a great job with AVCHDs, but does not play MKVs on this model. Maybe the 360 will support it soon, but don't hold your breath.

The Samsung 1600, 3600 and probably the 4600 do play MKVs. (Only confirmed in the UK and maybe the US.)

Canada only has the 2.02 FW upgrade and the UK has 2.02, but they seem to be different. The UK can play MKVs, but the Canada version cannot. However, the US can play MKVs, but they are up to version 2.04 FW.

Maybe Canada will get their 2.04 FW soon. :(

The samsung has better picture quality then any of the LG blu ray players thus far... especially upconvert. The Sony has even better picture over the Samsun, but not much. End rant. :razz:

Staples have meetings all the time about why people don't buy more tech from them unless its on sale... this is why... they are very uptight and do business in a very unfriendly way.

Not to mention they hire the failed car salesmen for their managers that are taught to treat all customers as stealing from them.

Staples need some work. Not a good company to buy from or do business from. Online ordering is the best as you don't have to deal with anyone.

There are a few stores that are great but in the midst of crappy stores all around they don't get too much recognition.

Having said as much as futureshop sucks they are much better to buy from than staples at times.

That's correct, the coupon acceptance depends on the mood of the manager.

Managed to get the demo at Quartier Dix 30. Had to convince them to sell the demo cause they did not want to but i told them that they are not going to get anymore of this model and there was no point in keeping the demo. I also asked if i could use the 10 % off coupon wich i only showed him on my iphone from this thread. He made me go online on one of their computers so i could print the coupon.
