With this unit at such a low price, I'm sure it would have the old version of the Garmin maps on it. Would I be able to get a free upgrade on this and use this upgrade on my Nuvi 250?

Probably not, but don't they allow you to install maps on more than one of your registered units?

No. Garmin maps are keyed to the unit serrial number. Look around the usual places and you'll find something that you can use in your Nuvi 250
