Why do people use Mac computers to edit mainly pictures and sound? I know a few people who use Macs exclusively for Photoshop yet the same software can be found on the PC.

Ummm it is a legitimate question and it isn't a my Mac G5 is better than your crappy i7 build debate. I've been using, learning, fixing, etc PCs for over 17 years and after talking to people who are doing Photoshop work, sound editing it seems they go Mac exclusively. I honestly don't see a reason to but maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture since I just a PC guy.

I think graphic artists prefer Mac is because of the font management and colour accuracy?

Can't speak to the sound editing, but as far as graphic design goes: elitism and tradition.
Adobe software is identical across platforms. There are excellent type management programs for both OSes. Your Macbook Pro's running the same ATI chips you can get on your PC. You can use Apple Colour Profiles while working in ACS on your PC, etc...

But really ... it all depends on what you're doing with your computer. Becuase really in the end they're 99% the same anyway.

Thinking you are one of the "elite" for sure.
There isn't really any difference between the two in terms of hardware.
As for the person talking about colour accuracy on macs.
That's horse----.
Unless you get some good calibration tools, you end up with the same ****** results.

umm like??? every single industry standard audio application (protools, cubase, etc) is also on pc.
mac doesn't even have adobe audition.
i work in graphics and use pc and mac. i definitely prefer pc (specifically windows 7) better.

Macs are just a status symbol for rich *********s\idiots
Especially those Mac Pros , what a waste of money
You basically pay 2000$ for that fancy case
The hardware inside barely worth 1000$
For 1000$ you can build a PC that will beat absolute crap of the Mac Pro in every possible benchmark in the world
And if you care about the beauty , there are full tower PC cases out there like some Lian Li's that look 10 times better and cleaner than that douchey Mac Pro case

I find Mac build to be more unified and elegant. This is important as pc becoming more and more like an appliance.
With PC, too much customization can make it either bad or good. See what i mean?
Anyway, depend on what you do one can be more attractive than the other.
(btw, nowadays ppl distinguish Mac and PC based on the OS and not the hardware itself as its identical)

But that LianLi does not come with OSX does it? PPL forgetting about the heart of the computer too quickly, its the OS.
Similar specs wont result the same functionality if they're driven by different OSes.
I do agree that most if not all Mac users are very limited in term of technical knowledge of a computer.

LOL
The OSX is possibly THE most douchey component of the Mac

I can't stand when people buy a Mac for graphic design purposes. I don't think they understand that in addition to the same software being available for PCs, the software actually performs far better on a PC, because Adobe doesn't have 64-bit CS4 or GPU acceleration on a Mac.
People don't seem to understand that they're paying money for an inferior product.

People should buy more Mac Pros... and more ipods, and more apple products in general!
I love it when Apple's stock just keeps getting higher and higher (as it is doing now)
I personally don't own any apple products. Just stock in the company.

I use Win XP Pro, 2gigs and it's smooth stable and editing is just fine.
Apple is highly overpriced for what you're getting, but you can't deny the fact that the packaging on the outside is beautiful.

Which is a shame because OSX is for people who don't know how to use computers.

I can't figure out why PC users (I'm a pc and mac user btw) have such a strong emotional reaction to these types of threads.
If there's anything worse than a Apple Fanboy it's the Apple Anti-Fanboy

That's a fair enough question.
I use my Mac for post-processing my photos because of Aperture, which is cheaper and easier to use then Adobe Lightroom 2 but less powerful but that is the trade-off you get.
