View Full Version : Walmart $5.00 Video game blowout(YMMV)

Sep 26th, 2009, 01:19 PM
Didn't see this posted yet, but I stopped in at the Walmart in Bolton and they were blowing out all their 2/$20 games for $5.00 each. Mainly PS2 games, some 360 as well as PSP and Wii games.

I picked up for the 360
Conan
Dead or Alive 2
Red alert

For PSP
Hot Shots Golf (Greatest Hits)

Could be YMMV.

I was at the Wal-Mart in Orleans yesterday. Stickers said $10, but when you scan them, they come up at $5.

For Xbox 360, they had Facebreaker and Dead or Alive Extreme 2.

Yes except most of those games don't work for TMGM (min value $3, a lot of those titles are $2.50 or less tho depending on your luck, you might find a few > $3).

All games regular price $10 will scan for $5 this week. No need for a special UPC "sticker" to scan at $5, the manufacturer UPC of the game (not added by WMT) will scan at the sale price.

I was able to find Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 X360 for $5, only the English version scans for $5 though, the French version scans for $18.93.

Buying games to play them? strange concept, but I like it

Do the XBOX 360 games scan in at that price or does it require a special sticker/over-ride?

certain games that have the $10 generic WM UPC ("value games") will scan-in at $5

there are also some games that were $10 scanned prior to the sale (original UPC), but those also now scan at $5

well, if you have games you're trading f/ your own collection, perhaps these $5 games are ideal as "fillers" to make up to the 10+ games list so that you get the most (+$5 TIC/game) out of the TMGM promo

Exactly the point I was trying to make. I wasn't suggesting anyone run out and load up on $5 games so they could trade them in for $6-8. That sort of Kleptonomics is no longer in vogue...

"Death Jr"! :) With a main character named "Death Jr" it's hardly surprising it killed off sales - especially in a kids' game. I'd never heard of it before Friday.

No good $5 DS games at Orleans or Trainyards (only Boogie and that Death Jr game were $5), but both of these locations were cleared of their $10 game bin months ago. Other than absolute crap like Golden Compass (Wii) and Dead or Alive (360), it was all PS2 console games on sale.

You could pick up boxes last week for about 50¢ at RCSS (with the right coupons $2.47 otherwise), but if you account the cost as the cost of the cereal, then it is technically free... only if your never going to eat the cereal is it not free.

well isint it more that since u bought that cereal for the purpose of the coupon..

meaning his shopping trip to walmart, if he wasnt planning on buying cheap wii games.. he would never have bought that cereal... even if he does eat it and enjoy it... it doesnt mean that he was gonna have that cereal anyway.. so then he DID technically buy the cereal for the coupon... just cuz he eventually eats it doesnt make the game totally free imo... its whether he was gonna buy that cereal anyways..

i believe the scanning code of practice only applies if sticker price is less than the scanned price or if the tickets and tags on the "rack" or "shelf" indicate a price less than the scanned price. if this occurs then the first 10$ of sticker price (ie the lower price) is picked up by the store which means that anything less than 10$ is free. only works on the first item though per customer.

yep. great deal if you're looking for a new console

PS3 slim $250
Wii - $180

not sure which versions of 360 RP still carries...

BTW, the other stipulation is also that they must have a TIV at RP
but i suppose that likely isn't a problem seeing that the games they accept are all next-gen (PS3/360/Wii) or current gen (PSP/DS)

I picked up NFL Head Coach 09 for PS3. The game had a $18.99 sticker on it, but came up as $5 when scanned. Unfortunately I just called EBG and the TIV is $4.75. Oh well, I might just return it since I'm not particularly fond of football games.

Anyone else have this experience with other games priced @ $18.99?

Nope, we went into WM and scanned a TON of $18.93/99 360/Wii/PS3 games and found NONE that were lower priced. There weren't a lot of PS3 games there, and I don't think I saw that NFL Coach one.

Yeah I scanned everything I could and couldn't find anything marked at 18 coming up at $5....pretty crappy $5 selections let me tell ya!

Just got back from price-protecting some $10 XB360, DS and Wii games I bought back at the start of September. It turned out to be quite lucrative, although the gal at the cash tried to play the "14 days" trick on me, but after reading the back of the receipt, she doled out the cash.

Thanks to the OP, as he just bought me Weeds S1-S3.

How long is that price protection policy? 30 days?

The deal is already dead in Quebec, since it started earlier, I think, I scanned a bunch of 10$ games and they all rang up at regular price.

Dufferin Mall has a few games that are $5.

The clearance rack is right outside of the electronics, and there is a price scanner near by as well (really handy ;))

Saw Red Alert 3 at STC today aroun 6pm and it had $10 sticker price on it...would the scanner price be $5 on that or was it for the anniversary sale only? I'm sure someone will get it tonight so I won't bother going back

All of the games are back to normal prices - it figures since I just saw them unloading a brand new box of $10 turds, which I likely would have picked up for $5 a pop.

On the good side, I did find NBA 09 Wii at RCSS for $9.99 - I've been wanting to pick that up since I traded 08 to EB for an XB360. Too bad Madden 09 and FIFA 09 were both $19.99.

Similar price, dunno if anyone's flagged this yet, BUT...

I saw that very game at a SuperStore (Loblaws?) on the prairies here, for $9.83 or something similar. Lots of relatively cheap games were on an open rack, such as Resistance PSP for $15, while the costlier games were locked away in cabinets.

I actually bought the last copy of Red Alert at STC this morning since I had to do a return anyways, but it was for $10. I'll probably return it though...$5 was a waaay better deal!:cheesygri

Saw a bunch of $10 games today at RCSS in Ajax including Red Alert 3. They had High School Musical 3 for 360 for $20. OK if you want an extra DDR mat ( I think they're compatible?).

may not be so worthwhile unless your local FS/BB/WM are close to each other

if not, the gas will take up the PM $aving$

can't quite call yourself a true RFDer if you don't always think about PM opp.'s whenever there's a deal... :D :D :D

I really should have PMed at FS. Then I could have actually used that 5%-off cpn. It's expired now I think. Problem is, it was for online purchases, and it might have been difficult to PM WM B&M vs FS.ca. More bother than it would have been worth anyway.

5% - it still sounds pathetic a month later!

Though I notice the usual 10% discounts on DVDs, CDs, games, etc haven't been part of FS's last 2 "sales" - which is part of the reason why they were such non-events. There was absolutely nothing worth buying - even with that puny extra 5%-off. Failure Shop indeed!

That's OK. At least it can remind mods to move this to Expired now.

Nice find though. I'll never own a Wii, but it shows there are still deals out there.

That's what I said....until yesterday. It was the last day for EB's promo where you'd get a Wii + the EA Sports Active bundle for $139.99 + 3 games with $8+ TIV. I had the credit, I had the games, and I still have a bit of the "turkey belt" from Thanksgiving

Can't believe I own a Wii now...

Yes, but what is the TIV on a downloaded 360 game?

Cold.
