View Full Version : Recomendations for Canon Digital Camera Please

I currently own a Canon PowerShot SD300 Digital ELPH, have had it for a few years now. Haven't really had a problem with the picture quality or anything.

But yesterday while at a concert, I realized how unclear the pictures turned out, although I was not too far from the stage.

I think my current camera is ok for taking pictures in very close proximity and at like parties lol.

Umm.... Just curious on what other Canon digital camera is good for situations such as concerts, which can capture a more clear picture (currently have a 4mp one)??????
Looking to get one just for special occasions, so I don't end up getting crappy pictures that I really want to have lol.

Possibly looking to spend under $250.00
Doesn't have to be super professional or anything, just more convenient then my current one.
------

Or if anyone can recommend a better brand within the same price range would also be appreciated

Look at super-zoom P&S cameras like Canon SX10 IS.

a higher pixel count camera would not fix the blurry pictures. The blur comes from vibrations and shaking of your hand while the camera shutter is open during exposure, especially at night. There are two ways of fixing this: 1. get a camera with a bigger aperture. 2. get a tripod. A point and shoot camera will always experience blurry image at night if you want to avoid using the flash.

thank you.

Would still like to have Camera Recommendations though, as I am considering getting a new one. :)

Your answer may lie in this thread.

Also, scroll back thru the forum message list for the past 8 weeks or so. There are several threads discussing low light photography with a P&S type camera - there have been several new models released recently that address the low light challenge. Unfortunately they all have a price tag near $400-500 and there-in lies the reason you're not getting much of a response here.... you've boxed yourself in with your budget. Below a certain price point all you get is a basic camera.

There are also a lot of people asking a similar question in this forum:

You may want to check these sites for camera reviews:

Or compare low light images on this next site. At the pop-up select "Continue" to go to the correct European site - the US and UK sites do not have the same test formats.

You should see the new Sony WX1 vs Panasonic LX3 - Poor Lighting test. Look at the "Barbie -Detail w/o Flash" shots as well.

Some P&S cameras getting attention for their low light abilities.

Canon G11
Canon S90
Fuji F70 EXR
Fuji F200 EXR
Panasonic LX3
Sony WX1
Sony TX1

You should be able to find a new but discontinued Panasonic TZ5 in that price range now, i got one when it came out, although not perfect it was very impressive enough to make me consider their superzoomer fz38 to fill in that gap in my photo bag.

for some reason my own search keeps bringing me back to the Canon Powershot A2000 IS, if you are looking for a compact for around $250 it seems pretty good to me, I am still looking though...

(repost from my own thread)

Thanks to a link posted in another thread on here, i found a way to more easily compare the A1000 IS with its successor the A1100 IS

http://www.digitalversus.com/duels.php?ty=1&ma1=1&mo1=590&p1=3791&ma2=1&mo2=674&p2=4889&ph=7

if a popup comes up just click continue...

it has review info from various cameras (even has the Fujifilm F30 & F31fd).

Thank you, I like this camera because of the screen and the overall appearance of it :).

now for some reason I am also looking at the Powershot SX10 (possibly because of the zoom)

Will keep on looking at reviews
