Purchase a D60 Kit. They're on sale at Best Buy and Future Shop.
You'll appreciate the sensor cleaning, the image size, and the rest. It will only be around 50-100 bucks more than a D40 kit.
Edit: I just looked it up, it's actually the same price as a D60 Kit due to the fact that D40s are harder to get hold of.

Assuming it has the stock 18-55, I would say $325-350 is reasonable.

Used D40 bodies are sold at 380^^...D60 at Best Buy is sold at 499.99 (non-VR 18-55) with a free Lowerpro 180 AW bag ($80)...D40s are much harder to find.

With tax its still $565, more than $200 what the D40 and lens costs used.

Even if you had to buy the bag, the D40 still saves more than $100. Sensor cleaning just buys more time between manual cleanings where the 10MP helps if you're printing big...really big.

...or using a cruddy 55-200 VR and constantly cropping images to get closer...at least I don't have to do that on my Sony with a 75-300.

The question is not whether I can afford it...the question is whether I want to pay that much. I'm naturally frugal. Plus, if I want to do super zoom photography anyway, am I not better off getting a Canon SX1IS or a Sony DSC-HX1...? They beat a 300mm face down.

If you say so.
Fact. Although the quality may suffer.

I guess image quality was not apart of that face.

Thought I'd reply to this now...because this is a spelling lulz.
"Apart" is not the same as "a part".
Apart: At a distance in place, position, or time.
That means you said that image quality WAS a part of that face.
Edit: And it's "apart from", not "apart of".

It was a typo, but you're missing the point. At least one other poster understood the spirit of my words.
It is entertaining to witness with the arrogance and attempts to contravene being found wrong. Though, at the same time it is truly saddening to see the lack of accountability.

3rd Sentence: Consider revising. I think "with" is out of place.
All sentences except second: "It" must replace a noun...what noun is "it" replacing in the beginning of sentence 1, 3...and in the middle of sentence 4? Consider revision.

For what its worth, it can be used to refer to an idea, rather than a singular pronoun. Also, it can be used to refer to an indefinite, as long as it is not used twice to refer to two separate indefinite entities within the same sentence.

It can be used to a refer to an idea...would you like to specify which idea you are referring to with "it" in each of the aforementioned sentences? Also, I love how you are still oblivious to my correcting your spelling when I quote you. Don't worry, you're not the first. I try to remain ignorant by not having bad spelling in my posts (that includes other people's sayings).
