Just got the new Wal-Mart flyer and it looks like they're pulling another Batman Arkham Asylum on us. Borderlands on Xbox 360 is gonna be $39.96, no mention of PS3 price or if it's a one-day special either.

Also look for the game "Brink" next spring, full Co-op gameplay like this one, but better!

Only if Future Shop and Best Buy match it first. Batman was a hotly anticipated title, so I'm sure they felt some heat to match. Borderlands........ not so much.

Well, i think its better for them to match it neways because at least they wouldn't be losing the extra 10% when people come and PM with Walmart.

EB doesn't PM with anybody unless it comes from head office as was the case with Batman:AA. It'll be interesting since this game is not as hyped as Batman was.

All depends on what the outcome of their last PM decision was. Was it worth it to them to match 'Walmark' (youtube reference anyone?), and do they want to keep getting pushed around by the big blue bully?

keep in mind, the batman deal was advertised on the 360's dashboard.
so everyone turning the system on saw it. but still, i hope that eb dropps the price. i have two copies pre-ordered so it be like getting one almost for free.

Unless Microsoft has made a deal with Walmart. It wouldn't be unusual for Microsoft to throw its money around in the battle for marketshare. Why this game, I couldn't tell you, but I'm getting it regardless.

Yea, it's definitely worth switching your pre-order for borderlands to another game that you want since there are so many great games coming out between now and the holidays.

I went in to switch my Borderlands pre-order to Assassin's Creed 2 and the guy there says "Everyone's been doing this today, I don't know why." Then I told him Wal-Mart was selling it for $39.96 and they were like "They're doing it again?!" and told me they'd most likely match it.

no. you have to cancel the preorder. the 2 days thing is they are putting your copy aside so you can have first dip during those 48 hours. after that, it goes in the everyone can buy it bin

Agh... I was going to pass on this game, as fun as it looks. With Tekken 6, Dragon's Age, CoD:MW2, and L4D2 all coming up in a 4 week period, I couldn't justify a 5th game over 5 weeks.

...but $39.96... so tempting. Even if I get bored after a week, the trade-in will be decent that early on.

they would have to give you the diff in price. i know the deal is "trade 3 get ONE free not 69.99" but just say you switch your pre-order to somthing else then say you dont want it they give you the $ on an edge card so they would have to give you the differance

I had the same situation with my EB Games. With Batman, I'd pre-ordered with the T3G1F, and they said I could switch the pre-order and pay cash for Batman. I did that. Not ideal, but not a problem.

i dont think you can pre at wm.

one reason ppl want to pm is staples bb and fs give an extra 10% so 35.98 before taxes. slightly better deal and its all about the hunt and the extra 3$ pays for the gas or the bus tickets.

i for one already have two pre's at eb for borderlands one for me and a friend.
and i have tons of eb credit but no cash so ill keep my pre-orders and hope eb dropps the price

i asked about pm ing at eb before, during the great wm 9.99 assgreed fiasco and was told if they get it from head office then yes,(batman aa) but if its a flyer or whatever then no. and this was comming from a shady eb guy thats done some nice trades/policy bending for me. so i belived him.

I could have fought it the first time, but they gave me the whole "you traded in 3 cheap games, so you're still getting your value if you take Batman, even if the price dropped". I knew it was just easier to switch and pay cash. Now, I just have to figure out what the pre-order instead.

Why is everyone assuming that ALL stores will let you cancel your pre-order (from T3G1F), and then assign the full $69 to a gift card? The two stores that I inquired at (both with veteran associates), and they said that you can switch the pre-order, however you CAN NOT get credit. The deal was to trade in 3, and get one free. I was told you CAN NOT cancel the pre-order, your only option was to switch it. If it's a GG game, you can then take it back for full credit (on a gift card). If it's not GG, you can't get credit.

I was told this is their official policy.

Take it for what it is.

Lot of people have fully paid pre-orders in EB, by trading games from various sources with the deal Trade 3 Get 1 free. So everyone would like to get store credit back instead of paying the full price for the game that is on sale elsewhere.

For example, I have a fully paid pre-order for Borderlands at my local EB Games store for $69.99.. I would definitely like to get the $30 difference back on a gift card or whatever rather than me paying for the full game, when i can get it for cheaper at Walmart. So yeah, there were issues in the past about this, most recently with the Batman: AA and Uncharted 2.

Lot of people have fully paid pre-orders in EB, by trading games from various sources with the deal Trade 3 Get 1 free. So everyone would like to get store credit back instead of paying the full price for the game that is on sale elsewhere.

For example, I have a fully paid pre-order for Borderlands at my local EB Games store for $69.99.. I would definitely like to get the $30 difference back on a gift card or whatever rather than me paying for the full game, when i can get it for cheaper at Walmart. So yeah, there were issues in the past about this, most recently with the Batman: AA and Uncharted 2.

I never understood "Pre-ordering" a game, in Newfoundland there is always a bunch of copies the next day. Must be madness on the mainland.

Population density. I used to live in a small city so every store had copies of whatever game is released but now that I'm in Ottawa I preorder sometimes to make sure I get the game (and extra content). Being in smaller populated areas outside of major cities usually means you're going to find a copy easily.

Why is everyone assuming that ALL stores will let you cancel your pre-order (from T3G1F), and then assign the full $69 to a gift card? The two stores that I inquired at (both with veteran associates), and they said that you can switch the pre-order, however you CAN NOT get credit. The deal was to trade in 3, and get one free. I was told you CAN NOT cancel the pre-order, your only option was to switch it. If it's a GG game, you can then take it back for full credit (on a gift card). If it's not GG, you can't get credit.

I was told this is their official policy.

I'm usually not one to support brands or big box stores, but I'm going to be purchasing my copy from Walmart. I think it's great that they are increasing competition by forcing other stores lower prices on release day.

Walmart will be the store that gets my $39, just on principle alone.
Im in the same boat, I hate buying from walmart the customer service is more than rotten and they treat you like dirt. BUUUT when the sale is so much better than the competitors and I dont want to run out at get it pm'ed then dirt I will be .(for a few minutes at most .) :D

I spoke with a rep at my local EB tonight and he thinks EB will match the price like they did with Batman. If that happens, I'll be picking up my copy at EB since the pre-order bonus is access to 8 exclusive weapons (at least for the XBOX 360 version). :)

Not the preferred way to go, but unless someone matches that price for the PS3 version (preferably EB Games, I like the guys at my store), it might be the only choice.

Walmart is very aggressive and forces other retailers to lower their prices on all sorts of goods, not just video games. Wal mart is a huge factor in creating competition in the Canadian retail sector. Consumers can think Wal Mart for lower prices which benefits the majority of people when the unemployment rate is near 10%.

So I agree that what WM is doing is great and I don't understand the WM haters. Sure, they put smaller players out of business but that's life. If WM didn't do it another company would (Loblaws is trying to as well.)

No it's not. Xbox with same features is not much cheaper, it's not even cheaper. Xbox just has an entry level system that's cheaper but it's not even in the same league as ps3/higher end xbox.

As the Canadian dollar increases in value, Walmart will only help to push more manufacturer's into Asia, and help to put other stores out of business. Walmart sells on consignment, and due to the fact that they receive huge discounts (due to their volume of purchasing), they are able to offer goods at a lower price than smaller competitors.

Eventually they will price competitors out of the market. They (competitors) can only discount a product so much before they can't afford to stay in business.

Eventually all we'll have is a few choices of big box stores. Once that occurs, prices will increase as they have then cornered the market. Then the cycle will begin anew (hopefully).

Discounts are great, however the idea of cheaper is better is destroying our culture, and our society.

I asked about the price and the CSR said they were well aware of the Walmart price, but no specific direction has been declared at this point. He said that if EB Games doesn't drop the price than he'll be going over to Walmart himself to pick it up :razz:

I always preferentially get the PS3 version. Honestly, I don't care which system I play a game on. Both controllers are fairly comfortable and I don't have a problem using either for any game. But I prefer PS3 games because I am much more confident that my ps3 won't crap out on me sometime in the future. If my XBOX ever RRoDs, I'm not buying another one. So I get as few XBOX360 games as possible. The only games I have for my xbox are xbox360 exclusives. And thats how I want to keep it.

Same here. I only get 360 exclusives and unless the PS3 port is really bad (a rarity nowadays) I buy everything else for the PS3. Besides the RROD risk, I just hate how the cheaper 360 discs get all scratched up just by looking at them. The bloody PS3 blu-ray discs are damn near indestructible, as is the system in general.

but in terms of ps3 being higher end... yes on paper it is the more powerful hardware, but also harder to develop for (non first-party). gabe newell from valve and a few other devs have been very vocal on how much of a pain in the ass it is to get something running and looking good on PS3 compared to 360. remember for a while there EA sports games were only 30fps on ps3 whereas 360 was 60fps. and of course ghostbusters looked **** on ps3, and the same thing is now happening with bayonetta.

so although ps3 wins on paper, it's not as great in real world application. just like communism :lol:

just because a machine is better doesn't mean devs can always take advantage of it (first-party games excluded).

with that said, I'm buying a ps3 this season, mostly for blu-ray and a few first-party titles I want to try. for any cross-platform or multiplayer titles I always go with 360.

And the 360 is cheaper than the PS3. Show me where you can get a PS3 for $150. Not everyone needs a harddrive, or even online play. For casual gamers the 360 is cheaper. Not necessarily better, but cheaper. The X360 has a lot more games than the PS3 and thus there is a bigger, cheaper selection of games too. Nothing wrong with the PS3, I like my PS3 too. The exclusives are great.

Wages are too high here compared to other countries. You can't blame that on Wal mart. Wal mart will purchase goods as cheaply as they can which makes sense. Those that want higher quality goods can pay more and shop elsewhere. If people demand higher quality goods on the whole, Wal mart will start supplying them.

The 360 was much cheaper for much longer, so I'm missing your point.

I mean the PS3 and 360 have been the same price for years. I remember when I bought my PS3 almost 2 years ago in december, The 40gb PS3 was the same price as the 20 or 60gb Pro xbox 360, both priced at $400. i cant remember if the xbox 360 that was priced at the same value as the 40gb ps3 was 20 or 60gbs.

This was in late 2007.

Also, somebody said WM has a special exclusive for all the Transformers 2 blu-ray they carry....what exactly is the difference that others like FS or BB don't have?

It official now as walmart.ca is showing next week's store flyer which features the Xbox 360 $39.96 price for every province in Canada. Futureshop has matched that price for both PS3 and Xbox 360.

This is great for this game as more people with buy it at this price and then spread the word on this great game!!

Thanks Walmart for forcing other retailers to follow suit with such a great price!

I always preferentially get the PS3 version. Honestly, I don't care which system I play a game on. Both controllers are fairly comfortable and I don't have a problem using either for any game. But I prefer PS3 games because I am much more confident that my ps3 won't crap out on me sometime in the future. If my XBOX ever RRoDs, I'm not buying another one. So I get as few XBOX360 games as possible. The only games I have for my xbox are xbox360 exclusives. And thats how I want to keep it.

Being on my third Xbox360 and first PS3 since shortly after launch (January), this is exactly how I feel. Also not having to pay for online play is a bonus, I stopped my gold membership maybe a year ago.

The dollar will drop back down to earth again. There is too much internal pressure for it to go unchecked in the long term.

I wasn't railing on Walmart, so much as I was railing on the "cheap is best" mantra. I've heard too many horror stories of foreign companies using sub-standard material in order to build their product cheaper. Cheap is good, but it's not the end all, be all of product relevance.

I come to RFD to get deals on QUALITY product.

Walmart does this type of offer because it can afford to. Even if it loses money on each product sold, it's still a sale taken away from a competitor, and another consumer walking through their massive aisles. It's win/win for them. Same here. I only get 360 exclusives and unless the PS3 port is really bad (a rarity nowadays) I buy everything else for the PS3. Besides the RROD risk, I just hate how the cheaper 360 discs get all scratched up just by looking at them. The bloody PS3 blu-ray discs are damn near indestructible, as is the system in general.

I was responding to a statement. Prior to that statement, I never claimed anything. Did you read something that you thought was me, however it wasn't?

The one thing the 360 has going for it, is 3 years of warranty (in most cases). The few people I know that have had issues with the PS3, have all bought new units (repairs are upwards of $200, in almost all cases).

Everyone has their preference, however the 360 arcade model has been available for $200 for at least a year now. The PS3 only recently dropped to $300. I don't know what you've been smoking, however those were the prices.

Sony is bleeding money, so I hope for their sake that they increase their attach rates, and the ratio of users who choose a PS3 3rd party over a 360 3rd party.

I'm still on the fence about this game. I'm wondering how different the online capabilities will be between the 360 and PS3? Will the game have it's own matchmaking service, or will it be reserved to friends only?

That's fair enough. I would assume more people own a 360 though since it's much cheaper than a PS3, assuming an interest in gaming only.

if you're comparing just the arcade vs. PS3 slim, then yes pricewise it's cheaper (many arcade sales have been $150, or as low as $100 when stooples circulated that $50 coupon)

however arcade is like a barebone kits of a PC... you'd still need to buy extra accs. (e.g. wireless adapter) to compare similar features offered by PS3...
like another said earlier, it's not that much cheaper after taking into acct the purchase of accs.

I have never seen anything as graphically impressive as Uncharted let alone Uncharted 2 on my 360. I've also never seen my 360 play blu-ray movies, or even connect to the network via wifi without a crutch. I also haven't been able to use my bluetooth keyboard, mouse, or headset with the 360. The list goes on. The PS3 is "higher end". Whether it is higher end in a way that matters to you is up to you, but you can take your rose tinted glasses off.

Except you need to pay a yearly fee for XBOX's online. I play both system (well actually i play wii more than 360!) but for online games, i still prefer PS3 over XBOX due to BT and wireless (thus in the similar i can game downstairs instead of upstairs where its quite a bit hotter). Also BT allows for easier connection for KB/Mouse for those FPS games that support it. Not to mention BT headphones are nice for communications. Of course if those aren't important for you, then they arent assets to you.

Basically my XBOX collection consist only of games that are released for the XBOX only (or at least released for it well before the PS3 version).

I took credit from BBV and shifted it to EB with an increase, with which I could buy a year's subscription. Right now though my $25 one from Factory Direct ran out so I bought one from a guy at work for $30.

for some reason when these new release discounted game deals come by, the last retailer to mention for a PM is stooples

stooples may not carry much selection of the older games, but for new release/popular games, there's a good chance that they will (they did have BAA during street date, so PM opp. was there)

the PM shouldn't be a problem seeing how there are 3 competitors (FS/BB/WM), to which stock should be avail. at 1 store or another :D

^ I went and grabbed Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2 early Tuesday morning from Wal-mart last week and they had Uncharted out and ready to go, but Brutal Legend was still boxed up. I told them it should be out and they opened up the pile of boxes they had stacked in the electronics section and they found it for me. I saw the Walmart ad on my XBOX 360 tonight and it's confirmed that Borderlands will be $39.96 from October 20th until October 27th. So this sale is for a week, which probably explains why EB is not joining in on this as they would take too much of a loss discounting this game for an entire week.

Any word on whether Walmart is also selling PS3 version for 39? It would be logical for them to do so but I don't want to be quick to assume.

Otherwise, I'm going to stooples to PM a PS3 copy - only q? is, do they PM FS/BB when the price is not listed in their most recent ad?

I did an ISPU in Peterborough for GOW2 and it took them about 20 hours to tell me it was ready to be picked up, so I went in after about 5 hours and just bought a copy, they say it sould only take 3 hours or something.

You can go to the Brampton East store and wait till exactly midnight and buy it then as they store closes at midnight.

Most of the 24 hour Walmarts are too far for me (Barrie, Brantford).

to be honest, I expected 6/10 or lower across the board. It just seemed to take on wayyy too many things at once (RPG, driving, dungeon crawl, FPS, MMO, etc), but I'm pleasantly surprised that it's getting some nice reception.

The structure of Borderlands makes it feel like an MMO game that doesn't require you to rely on groups of other players to enjoy. Though it's probably better when you're playing online with friends, playing alone is still perfectly fine.

It's also one of those games that's so strong in parts that its shortcomings become almost glaring by comparison. As such, the game's barebones story, lackluster AI, and insufficient player trading options are real disappointments that prevent the game from reaching its full potential.

But when you're frantically trying to stay alive while getting swarmed by an angry horde of gigantic spiderants, chances are you won't care much about that other stuff. Borderlands strongly succeeds where plenty of other Diablo-inspired games have failed miserably.

If this game had a 5 it just means a lot of people don't like the style. It's for sure a style not suited for a lot of people but still worth it for the people who like the style.

I for one will be playing it and buying any and all DLC coming for it.

I heard this joke from a friend saying if you buy a game like borderlands and sell it EBgames within the first week they give you the full price...

Was my friend on drugs or?

He could be, lol. Borderlands wasn't a GG I believe.

Guess I will swing by a Walmart on my way to work. They all pretty much open at 7am in GTA I believe.

If not I can try BB/FS during lunchtime.

But I really don't know if the game is worth the effort. Then again I was thinking the same thing regarding Batman:AA ...

Just go to Futureshop today and put it on Lay Away, there is no pre-order in store for this game.
That's what I did and now I have a copy waiting for me tomorrow.

I was told they (as a reaseon for full price...), they give $40 TIV in the first two weeks, so if you don't like it it'll "only" cost you $30 to test...
My thought , I buy it fotr $40 and if I don't like it trade it in for taxes paid...:D
But I'll think, they don't give $40 TIV to boot.
I might go and pick up one copy for the PO bonus (since I pre ordered) and return it to the next store on the way...;)

Yeah agreed, well I have Dragon Age paid off for I just told them to move it on credit. Got to love Rogers B1G1F and Blockbusters sale. Got some really good stuff cheap.

there's an EB @ the pen centre, one @ the fairview (where the FS is), one @ vansickle. (where the Bestbuy & walmart are) and theres another walmart on 4th ave. should be no problems finding a copy in st. catharines 2morrow theres tonnes of stores.

so Walmart is for sure selling this for 39.95 right? I'm worried cause Walmart's website doesn't show that they have the game...

Also, would Walmart have the game already on the shelves right when the store opens?

They are advertising on the XBOX dashboard during the weekend, not sure if it is still there, so yeah, they should be selling for $40.

On my way to work stopped at (Ellice/ St.James) WM and they told me the Borderlands and Smackdown are on Backorder, so no go ....
Since I don't trust them I went to my usual Garden City WM and grabbed it from a box... Borderlands PS3 scanned in at $39.96 and thats what I paid, 2x Borderlands PS3 for $39.96+tx each.;)

having a record sucks, i got a pardon for the fighting i did when i was yonger and it took almost a year to get it, mail this paper to some place and they stamp it and mail it back, you sign it and mail it to somone in narnia they sniff it and wipe there bum with it and mail it back to you, you add a new paper to the pile and mail it to someone else (the same address but diff office number to the narnia place) they cast a protective ward to protect it from ghosts and a year of mailing crap around to different places then your forgiven. its worth it but man it was a lota work

I should have called before driving around this morning...I pass two Walmarts if I take the scenic route to work. Oakville (Dundas/Trafalgar) hadn't received theirs yet and said to call back. Mississauga (Burnhamthorpe/ErinMills) had some. I picked one up at 8am and the clerk commented that the game had been selling fast. Said I was about the 6th person to grab one, and there was only about 5-6 left.

I'll have to cancel my Best Buy ISPU order, and transfer the credit from my EB preorder. I already cancelled my Amazon preorder on the weekend.

It was canning for 70 at the rexdale location also, but I told them to call Keele and Lawrence Wal-mart to see if the ps3 version was scanning for 40. It did, and they still didn't want to give me the copy. I ended up getting the copy after a few okays from their CSR. It was the last one also.

Which one of you RFDers bought from the keele and lawrence and rexdale Wal-marts?

Rexdale has 0 copies for both system left.

Anwyay i am pretty sure the impact of this promotion wont be as effective as the Batman AA one. For sure, it will help sales but i would be surprised this game sells more than 1 million copies.

I went to the Wal-mart on Airport Rd. in Brampton this morning right when they opened. I managed to get a copy, but the game was not out on the shelf for display yet, so I didn't see how many copies were left. They literally pulled it out from one of the boxes they had yet to stock.

So, I know they have it, I just don't know how many copies.

Just picked up my copy of Borderlands at the Walmart across from the Promenade Mall:D:D:D.

I got there and the person in the electronics department said "Oh we never got those in stock" I asked to speak to the manager, he also told me they never got it in-stock. After speaking to him he said when it comes in he would put my name on it and hold a copy, he also said they were only going to have around 8 copies.
Never the less I got a phone call saying I could come and pick it up.
