Thought I’d share my experience at this new restaurant as others have shown interest in the restaurants at the new Shops at Don Mills. Just ate at this restaurant on Saturday evening with 2 others and have to say it was overpriced and not worth repeating.

I ordered the Lobster Mac & Cheese for $18 that came with a side GLOW salad. The mac & cheese was runny, more like a soup and not very cheesy. There were only 3 pieces of lobster, all claws, and no tail pieces. It wasn’t very flavourful considering it was made with old cheddar and gruyere. The side salad came with a maple balsamic dressing, 1 small piece of avocado, about 6 slivers of yellow/red peppers, 1 cherry tomato halved, 1 blackberry, 1 raspberry, 1 quarter of a small strawberry, a sprinkling of sunflower seeds and wilted field greens. The dressing was actually quite good but the wilted greens were such a turn off. I had the server bring me another salad which thankfully was not wilted. The portion of the mac & cheese was extremely small. It was served in a very small bowl that would be sufficient for my 21 month old son.

The other 2 diners ordered a trout dinner ($18) and Mediterranean roasted chicken flatbread ($12). Have to say the flatbread was tasty and I was envious of the meal the entire night. The trout was overcooked and dry but trout is a very thin fish so perhaps the cook is just not used to it.

Our server was inattentive and slow. We weren’t offered a refill on our drinks until we were ready to pay.

The atmosphere was actually quite nice. The ceiling lighting changes colour and there are some very nice glass art pieces. The washroom is extremely dark. I walked in and had to wait a few seconds to let my eyes adjust.

Overall, I would likely never choose to go back. Pickle Barrel has better food than this place.

Anyone else try this place?

Funny though, it's open by the Pickle Barrel people from what I read.

You are right, it is owned by them. Rose Reisman was just a consultant and lended her name to it. I will be avoiding this place at all costs based on this review and the others on Chowhound.

Sorry, I should've mentioned it was a Pickle Barrel venture. That's why I mentioned them, to show the irony. I don't actually like Pickle Barrel but I think their food is better.
