Cienfuegos on the Southern coast in the middle of Cuba is nice. There is a dolphin show and an oppurtunity to swim with them. Price was about $200 per person to swim with them.

I would recommend Cayo Guillermo as it has a lot of small fish at the beach (feeding with bread is really fun).

Also the water is rather shallow and takes a while to get deep (similar to Wasaga) so its great for kids.

Too much poverty in Cuba. Not only that it gets tiring when people there try to suck you dry for money and then give you attitude as soon as you say your wallet is closed for business.

Really??? Been to Cuba 5 times and never found that (maybe a bit in Varadero). I always found Cubans to be very open and friendly (I like to call them the canadians of the carribean).

I found the money or nothing thing much, much more prevalent in Dominican and Mexico.

OP (and others) use debbies caribbean resort reviews (http://www.debbiescaribbeanresortreviews.com) to find individual resorts.

Like I said in my earlier post, I would recommend Cayo Guillermo; Melia Cayo Guillermo or Iberostar Daiquiri are very nice and the area is very quiet and great for kids and families.

What are you talking about?

I still remember when I went to Holguin with my family ... we ended up going out in the 'country' with the scooter to some museum. On the way back we just stopped to rest. Some old man was walking by with his bike and he came over and gave us some fruit that he had.

We thanked him and I tried to give him a $1usd but he didnt want it ... I had to put in his shirt pocket.

Never have I seen these Cubans that "suck you dry" 4 times that I've been there.

To OP, I would recommend Cayo Coco and Varadero for the best beaches. If you go to Varadero, you will be able to go see Havana as its only 2hrs away. Cayo Coco is an island, so not much there besides the beautiful beaches. A nice place to go to if you just want to relax. In Varadero, Blau Varadero would be my recommendation for a resort to stay at.

Havana day trip is great! Also going into the city of Varadero is a cool experience.

Try Guantanamo Bay, pretty cheap to stay there :D

I know a fellow who rode his bike around the island of Cuba (along the whole coast). He took a picture near Gitmo and as he was riding away a truck with 4 or so fully armed soldiers took his camera and deleted all the pictures and gave him back his camera and sent him on his way. Luckly he was not thrown in prision..lol.

I hope you realize that Jibacoa is half way between Varadero and Havana. You will be flying into Varadero and then traveling about an hour to the resort and there isn't much outside the resort in that area. I would suggest going to Havana as you are only about an hour away.

I'd venture over to cruisecritic.com. It's a great site for exploring travel of all kinds. There is a section on Cuba. Those people over there really know their stuff.

ha!
no pepsi and no real coke on the resorts. you can buy coke/diet coke at the markets/street stands.
you can get a burger, but it won't be the same kind of burger you are used to. same with steak.....if you can get a piece of steak, don't expect a thick and juicy cut of meat. be sure to ask what kind of meat is in a certain dish becasue sometimes you just aren't sure. i always asked them to cook my food longer. if not, eggs are runny, meat is pink etc.
all of the food there is pretty bland. even salt and pepper aren't the same. my bf hated it. he lived on white rice, french fries and bread.
the good thing is, the fruit and veg are amazing! all 'organic'. and the seafood is fresh. can't go wrong there.
there are no fast food chains that i saw except for Pizza Nova (trez bizarre) in the Plaza America (mall).

Cuba is not for everyone. Some people are spoiled and have very high expectations, and they don't like the place. That is a different world; it is isolated from the US, and there are no franchises.Which is great.
I've been couple of times, in Varadero. The last time I went there, they put me in a nice villa right on the beach. So as I always go in a 4 star hotel, I can say that the food is pretty good and it's nothing like in Canada. It has a real taste. But do not go for a dinner at the very end, always go when it's fresh. In Cuba it's really really hot, and even the A/C can't help.Food goes bad quckly, and you could get a nasty stomachache if you eat late.
Cuba is for relaxation.Except that you can go to Havana and see a lot of interesting things, there's not much to do. This is not Ibizza, you can not go wild.

In the 4+ star hotels they have great food and entertainment.

DO NOT go in a 3 star hotel. Minimum 4 star.

this is awsome info about cuba and planning to go for the first time in comming weeks.
well it looks like i dont have many choices for resorts as i have to take the most effordable deal that strikes in comming weeks and make the best out of it.
I was wondering any one know about good massages and spa treatment , other than beaches/food/drinks and roaming.
Recently(six months) been to thailand...felt like got the bank for the buck. good massages for around 500bhats(around $12) and 2000bhats($75) for the entire body(oil) massages with some perks :-).

Also i was wondering, cannot we use CUP instead of CUC while we are out side of the resor?..Is the tourists are restricted to only CUP?
Higly appreciated your feedback.
cheers
