So I paid this guy $350 through Paypal for his Canada Goose Jacket.
He responds saying shipping is too expensive and backs out of the deal. He says there's no refund button on the Paypal site.
I open a case with Paypal, he has yet to respond. Now I see he's sold the jacket to someone else on here!
And I am still down $350!!!!!!!!

Got his address? Living downtown, I can go by his place, or speak to local authorities in the area.

When I was his age all I could care was my Nintendo and Mazinger toys.
Anyhow, good luck to OP, hope you'll get your money back.
*Also props to JAC for his nice work*

He's going into hiding, folks. He deleted his Kijiji ads, and most of his photos from his Photobucket account.
OP, I hope you paid with a CC on PayPal. Looks like its time for a chargeback.

He hasn't responded to me. The last pm I got from him was on Oct. 20th where he stated shipping was too expensive.
And a mod has sent him a pm linking back to this thread.

I did pay with CC on Paypal. How would I go about a chargeback?

I think, JAC, that means that's a hint you're allowed to post a bit more info on him ;)

Take this as a lesson learned, the seller only has 8 posts and you were confident enough to send him money and have him ship the item? That should set off warning signs to you. I'm sure you'll get your money back but you need to contact your credit card company and request a charge-back but most will make you wait 30 days before they will investigate the claim. Good luck to you OP.

OP is the one with 8 posts, no? Seller shows 100 for me.

is chargeback via paypal really fool-proof?
i am sure we can dig some skeleton out of the seller's closet...let's just hope it won't be another BensonWei
JAC should change his location to "where you hide your darkest secret"

Something stinks here. It was suggested to me that the kid in these photos looks like Benson Wei. Anyone else think so?
It also bothers me that the douche has deleted ALL his photos from his account EXCEPT those two. This smells of a red-herring, and possibly a frame-up.

Man, JAC you beat us all to the punch, I was gonna say that when I first saw the photos. :cheesygri
Oh well, apologies about my comment regarding the seller having only 8 posts I think my eyes were crossed at the time of writing but the seller is still a noob with his 2 feedback, probably falsified anyways...

It looks like BensonWei indeed and another thing, in that case he also targeted buyers who weren't from Toronto.
I hope Paypal will do the refund in time and hopefully he hasn't transferred them out before you opened a dispute.
A police report too I suppose
Best wishes to you OP, I hate seeing people get scammed :(

^Yea, I opened the claim last week, so I don't think he would've had enough time to transfer the funds out as your account usually goes on hold when you have open disputes and claims.
Today is his last day to respond to the claim on Paypal, so hopefully this will be resolved soon.

Just wondering, is the benson wei user on RFD the scammer we're talking about?
If so his profile states he lives on bloor and christie, which is near bloor and ossington, just a few blocks away I believe.

So the case got closed by Paypal today. Was only able to recover $339.50
So I lost $10.50 out of this whole ordeal.. But at least its somewhat done with.
If you guys ever see this kid, give him a good "talking to" and you can keep the 10 bucks he owes me. lol

At least you got almost all your money back. That's good.
I can never deal like that. I've done around 40 meetups from RFD, FB, etc. and I always have to meet in person for anything. It's more fun too. You meet a lot of interesting people.

with paypal you got to act real fast. and maybe even faster with cc co. they will tell you to go complain to pp, keep your foot down. got scammed with paypal before, lucky dude here got his casho back. usually if the scammer does it 'properly' you get fudge all. pp will tell you something in the : " we tried blah blah blah but we could get 0 from seller x"
at wich point you go full out on his arse with whatever you find local pd and so on. put the heat on him till he decides spending cold nights with bubba in the big house not really worth it for xxx dollarski.
now, if the seller is not within reach, then it gets more complicated.
and for good traders who accept paypal, never ever get a pp payment and meet the guy or so...no proof of shipping=scamer gets goods and his cash(may be stolen already) back.
or if you get an email from pp saying : "buyer x has used a fraudulent cc" or so, that can mean two things usually : he really did or biched enough to cc co that they retracted payment, thus pp passes the loss onto you.
i like emt. worse case scenario, its in canada and somehow traceable. i mean, think about it, it has to be deposited int oa canadian act. the owner can get in trouble if enough means are used...:)

EMT all the way, its traceable when the authorities get involved.
I plainly refuse to take PayPal for payment, verified or otherwise.
Good thing the OP got most of his money back.

This stupid kid Benson Wei again?! Are you kidding.. Even after everything that rfd went through to even track this loser down, he still continues to scam?
Honestly people, I think it's time to track down the REAL Benson Wei and make him pay.. Get the cops involved as well. Its time to track him down and throw him into either juvenile hall (most likely just a little punk trying to get away with multiple scams and obviously won't learn his lesson) or actual jail (if he turns out to be some rotten 40 year old wannabe thug)..
If we don't do anything about him, then he will simply keep ban evading and create new accounts to scam people..
I am so glad that the OP got his money back. Last time it wasn't such a happy ending and the victim ended up losing almost 2k to benson wei... We can't let this happen again, especially if it's the same scammer.

It is traceable alright but I doubt the police or the bank employee would lift a finger when you asked them for help over $350, heck even for $1000. When I was new around here, I got scammed for $160 by that Truong guy. Called my local bank and they got a trace on which account the money went to but they refused to reverse the transaction even though I have linked them to the current discussion at the time ( as I wasn't the only one he scammed that same day ). Contacted OPP ( or was it RCMP internet fraud div. ) did not get anywhere with them. Then Toronto Police but guess what, they told me it's my fault as I'm buying from somebody I don't even see face to face ( talk about cops who would rather park on a corner and wait for speeders or hang around tim horton's for coffee and doughnuts than help out citizen's they're supposed to serve and protect  ).
Ooops, got carried away and wrote a novel :D. Anyway, I only deal locally 99% of the time now. If I have to deal with somebody not local, I choose who I deal with. OP is lucky he got most of his money. $11 isn't a bad price to pay for a lesson he learned :)
