We've been doing some re-painting and redesigning of our house interior lately. I wanted to get some roman blinds/shades for my office window (really like the look of them), and got quoted almost $500 for a 59'x47' window -- HOLY MOLY!! Are Roman blinds/shades typically this expensive?????

On a related note, any recommendations on good places to purchase Roman or similar shades in the Durham region?

If you are ok with sewing you can make them for a fraction of the cost. They are really easy to make. We picked up a book at the library on how to make them. Made romans and curtains for our entire house for like $350.

Making our own has been suggested ... unfortunately, i'm horrible with any kind of craft, including sewing! I only want roman blinds (or something with a similar look) for this one particular window in the office anyway ...

$350 for the entire house is awesome!! :)

Maybe you can find a friend or family member that can sew? It was way too pricey to buy them made.. It would have been thousands to get the house done otherwise. Maybe even posting something on Kijiji that you need someone to make some curtains might work. My sister in law can sew and lives in Durham region, but she is going on vacation and I don't even know if she has time to make curtains. Kijiji might be a good chance tho. Good Luck!

That's a good suggestion, thanks! :) I'm going to look into other types of shades and see if i can reach a similar look at a more "reasonable" price lol. If not, perhaps i will realize i really want the real deal and go about finding someone to make them for me!

Hi,

There's a lady in pickering that i use...she makes romans for me and she charges a fair price. I usually look for my own fabric and lining and she'll make it according to my window specifications.

PM me if you'd like her info.

I am geeting 2 identical shades made right now...33 by 44 each and will cost maybe under 200 for both.

I found cheap decent ones at CT a couple of years ago. They were about $40 for a 4X6 ft. Don't know if they still sell them

I'd say check out that store called "Covers", they have several locations across the gta. I needed some 18-20 roller blinds for my entire house and wanted something decent but affordable, and their selection was the best. Price was much better than Blinds to Go or any other place I tried.
