View Full Version : FS: Tekken 6 Limited Edition - $69.99 Price mistake?
scourdx
Oct 29th, 2009, 11:22 PM
I looked at the Futureshop flyer today and notice the Tekken 6 Limited Edition for $69.99. If this means the limited edition arcade stick with game for $69.99, then I will be all over it. Most likely it is a price mistake, but give it a shot and see if you can get it for that price.

If you search the WebID it's the regular $59 one. Don't know why its $69 on the flyer.

I'm not sure but I believe the limited Edition just has a special glossy cover on it that only people who preordered got. I suppose they are advertising it since they had an abundant supply of them? Definitely will not have the arcade bundle.
I had to fork out $180 for it after tax.

You won't be able to get away with it, since the bundle is not called "Limited Edition," so arguing with them on that basis will not do you any good. This is not a deal.

i am not going for this deal, but if i wanted it, i would try it, i mean, just get the physical flyer, and find a busy time in walmart or something, chances are, i say are over 80%, unless you got some csr who takes their job VERY seriously.
bottomline is this, it doesnt hurt to ask, and the worst that could happen is they say no. and if they say yes, you save half, not 5 bucks, not 10 bucks, half of what you are suppose to pay.
i am really tempted to get it, but after thinking and thinking, i am not going to keep the game, or use the joystick.
but for the rest of the rfders out there, if you are going to try to pm, best of luck ;)
another tip is this, BB (depends on who store i guess) tends to do the PM right at the cash if you get someone who is nice, having the actual flyer there is hard to reject.
for those that remember the zellers all 19.99 DS games 4.99 after trade and save, i almost got a ds game for half off, but they couldnt over ride it on cash for some reason, and the csr at that location wanted to call to check.
i would suggest going to walmart, BB, or even superstore (dont think they would carry it though, but you never know) for this PM
best idea: go try to pm at walmart AFTER FS closes, most walmart are not closed till 12am, and some are 24/7, go around 10ish ;)

FS really screwed up on their wording there, if it says limited edition, then it's going to be tough for us (rfders), but since they put limited edition "BUNDLE", that changed the whole price matching advantage

Even if you go mid day or after FS closes, staff will know its a dead deal becuase someone else had tried to get it for $69.99 earlier in the day and pass the info along or have a memo to other staff members.

I've spewed the "fraud" word a few times recently, however in the cases I was referring to, it was borderline fraud. In this case, you are trying to exploit a store error, so it isn't quite fraud.
If BB released another flier, or if BB posted an addendum at their stores/website, then trying to pickup the old offer would be borderline fraud.
In this case, it's just taking advantage of a store's mistake.
Fraud is going above and beyond that thought, and willfully setting out to trick the company.
I fixed it...
Kids calling adults "kids." Most of the people trying to commit fraud are involved with video games. It's not crazy to speculate that most of the fraudsters are kids.

It was clearly a mistake. You KNEW it was a mistake. The WebID led to the normal version of the game. People here confirmed it was a misprint. You went to another retailer with a flyer you knew had a mistake in it and asked them to price match it.
In the broadest sense, a fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual.
And it is intentional because you knew it was a price error, but pushed for it anyways.

I was trying to be lenient, but you're right. When you put it that way, it's apparent that it's fraud.
I forget who coined the phrase RFD - Reality Free Delinquents, however it works well here. Too many stupid people have little to no morality when it comes to saving money, and won't even acknowledge the facts.

Its tit-for-tad. If u manage to pull one over them good for you.
If company would remove the price match policy all this wouldnt happened. I believe i read somewhere PMs actually hurt competitions and we consumers lose out.
Back on topic, How is the stick for ppl that able to get the bundle compared to SF4 TE (if you have both)? I know comparing to Sf4 TE by madcat is obviously non comparison, but i want to know is execution the same with the SF4 TE stick? I dont care about the designs anyone can soup it up, joystick movement, buttons, execution, that is what makes a stick good.

Are the people of RFD Future shop? No. Maybe it wasn't an imprint, maybe FS is selling it for that price, because when I was FS for it. No correction notice was posted ANYWHERE and even the employees knew it was not posted yet. So it was a lack of preparation, if you must, on their part.
As for Best Buy, again, their fault, they usually check the website, or call FS and see if it is a price error.
It's not my fault that employees do not want to take their time to assure that the product was a misprint.

 Stop trying to play innocent here. We all know it was a misprint and knew it from the moment someone mentioned the WebID led to the regular version of the game. Correction notices are slow to come up, but like you said NO ONE at FS would give it to you because it was an ERROR.
Going to BestBuy to PM something you KNOW is an error is fraud. It doesn't matter if the CSR didn't check it/call in/verify online, because you're still a fraudster. Like WontonTiger said, there are too many people here with little to no moral values and will do anything to save a few bucks.

I went to my local Futureshop to buy the 360 version but was told they only had the PS3 version left. When he scanned it the price was $159 I told him it was $69 in the flyer and he said it wasn't that price for limited edition. I showed him the flyer and her asked someone who said they can't do it because it is an error and a correction notice was posted at the front of the store. When I asked to see it they couldn't find it so he asked someone else and they said to give it to me for $69.99. I got the PS3 version, I'd rather have the 360 version but the PS3 one will do.

it's not that... i'm not sure anyone would shed a tear for FS/BB
it's about how there are so many RFDers on here that are well aware of the error and still attempt to go elsewhere to PM

i think that if you're trying to take advantage of the FS ad error, and you manage to get it for $70, good for you.... your local stores didn't realize the error in time to put up a retraction notice, so i'd argue that they should honour the error
however, those that take the flyer elswhere (BB/WM/Zellers/etc.) in an attempt to PM a flyer misprint is committing borderline fraud

??
It's flat out FRAUD no matter how you spin it, sugar coat it.
There should be some kind of forum rule prevent people from suggesting illegal ways to do PM. If someone gets it from FS for that mis-print price, good for them. FS made that mistake anyways. But for them to take the mistake to some other store, well aware of it being a misprint, and have other retailers to take the loss is just fraud.
mase2167
Oct 30th, 2009, 10:32 PM
I don't really agree with it being fraud. There's no way anyone could prove it. As far as walmart or BB or wherever is concerned you are just another consumer matching a price from an official source. If they aren't aware of it that's their problem. They can't say "we know you looked on RFD." I guess maybe technically it's a form of fraud, but honestly how would you ever get convicted? "Sorry I just saw this flyer in my paper and came here to get the extra 10%, how was I supposed to know it was a price error"
plus is anyone really shedding a tear if a giant company like a walmart or bestbuy loses $100 on a sale of a video game. They are going to make money no matter what. If someone was doing that at a local, independent shop it would be definitely wrong, but rarely do small local shops do pricematches, because they can't afford to compete with the big box stores if they did.
Gouge those large corporations all day if they don't educate their staff to be on the lookout for price errors from other stores. Those employees should realize that a new game that is 169.99 for lim ed tekken6 or dirt2 selling for $20, 2 months after release would never happen. Something tells me walmart won't miss losing profit on a few game units by RFD'ers. :D

It's flat out FRAUD no matter how you spin it, sugar coat it.
There should be some kind of forum rule prevent people from suggesting illegal ways to do PM. If someone gets it from FS for that mis-print price, good for them. FS made that mistake anyways. But for them to take the mistake to some other store, well aware of it being a misprint, and have other retailers to take the loss is just fraud.
nope..anything u know that is priced wrong u should never try and get then? too many hypocrites on this site...

if it's "flat out FRAUD" to try to obtain a PM based on a flyer printout then is it also fraud to reject legitimate PMs? if that's the case all these large retail corporations are consistently breaking the law and defrauding consumers on a daily basis. why is it then that legally you can't do anything about it aside for the occasional class action lawsuit (south of the border but never here)? why aren't the police or federal gov't all up in arms over this? answer: a store's choice in how it enforces it's own PM policy is for most cases just that. nothing legally binding or breaking.
in a case such as this, they have the option to call and verify the deal if that is their policy, or go by the flyer if that is their policy. if the flyer is incorrect, that is Futureshop's fault not the consumer's. it is their choice if they wish to grant the PM or not, and that is soley based on their actions of how they follow their own policies and not based on the words or actions of the customer attempting the PM. lord knows, 99% of the time they try everything possible to get out of a PM. so if they do it, it's all on them. the real issue is whether or not it's our responsibility as consumers to have an ethical obligation to aid them in doing their jobs. if yes, then they should listen to us when we say we want a PM and grant it if it's legit. usually, they don't. so why is there a different standard here? it's a two way street.
i'm tired of the RFD police trying to use legal terms to define any practice they deem unethical. fraud is unethical, but not everything unethical is fraud. if you see consumers being unethical and cry foul over it, you better be consistent and cry foul when retailers do it too. and better cry nonstop since they do it far more often than all the RFDers combined ever could.
note: my only gripe is with the liberal labelling of things as FRAUDULENT, not on the outcry regarding unethical-ness.
Finally someone got it right....the other kids who complain that it's fraud should enroll in better schooling of ecomonics. Sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but sometimes the empty questionnings and finger-pointing over non-issues are just ways to prove that these individuals lack the real comprehension needed to weight in the proper matters....whew!!!!

BB = same company, they deserve the same crappy treatment that they give to their costumers

Best Buy isn't a mom and pop shop. They can recover for their employee's mistakes.
I don't want to take the moral high ground here because I myself have benefited from price errors in the past. However, I'm curious about the different standard applied to big stores and mom-and-pop stores. If it's unethical to get a mom-and-pop store to price match something that you know is a blatant error, I don't see why it wouldn't be equally unethical to do the same at a larger store. It's almost like saying shoplifting at a big store is less unethical than shoplifting at a small store.

Not gonna get into the ethics fight here, but Bill Gates would not have to skip a lunch to recover from losing 10 measly bucks. Hell, if he dropped $10, he'd actually be wasting time bending over to pick it up. During that short span of time, his company would have more than made up for the money he dropped.

People are funny like that, they like sticking it to the man, when they can. They justify it by, big companies have tried to screw over customers in the past when they were legit price matches as well, just because the price difference was big. Because a big company can absorb the loss more easily it's "ok".
Price matching an error, is no different.

I went upon opening today and I saw no price adjustments posted and asked why there was a price difference and said I wanted the advertised price. The manager made me wait a good 10 min running around the store but I got the bundle!
I got the "oh it's the normal game" excuse but I said the regular price is 59.99 not 69.99. It's not just a swap but multiple errors in the ad.
Just a tip, dun give up guys and hope your local future shop hasn't gotten wind. I was polite but insistent. And just don't play it stupid and try to price match at Best buy -_-

Selective morals based on who you are dealing with... It shows that you can twist your perspective to make things seem right (sociopath)
:cheesygri Do you have to be of certain ethnic background to get the PM? JK....
I do agree though that this is no different than any other price error in the past with RFDers trying to get the "deal" before anyone notices...what about the price error last week at Sears with the XBL points? No talk of "fraud" there I don't think, but yes, ethically or morally wrong in the end.

:lol::lol::lol::lol: You miss THE WHOLE POINT! What are parent's teaching their kids these days? Selective morality isn't acceptable. You should have a code of honour, and stick with that code. It shouldn't apply only with Asians, or only with Whites, or only with Blacks (do you see my drift now). Just because it's FS, or BB, or Staples, doesn't make it right. You should fight for fairness/equality amongst all retailers and all people, regardless of who/what they are.
Seriously, the whole point of this argument seems to go right over people's heads.

I wanted to include your post as well here. My whole gripe has been with the morality or ethics of all of this. You have a deals site with threads that advocate lying to retailers in order to attain better prices. Anyone who went and PMed this deal is not worried about lying. They have shown their moral character, or lack of any moral compass. Many of these people are probably kids who weren't taught ethics/morality. I just find the ignorance astounding.

(posted this also in the Walmart Taking of Pelham 123 Blu-ray thread since it's related)
I was successful today in PMing Walmart's Taking of Pelham 123 Blu-Ray deal at BB. But not successful with another deal I was trying to get. :cheesygri
However, it took a bit of fighting on my side and it started with trying to PM the FS Tekken 6 Bundle.
It was a loooong day...basically I tried to PM the FS Tekken 6 Deal first at FS and found 1 last unit. The Manager refused to PM it and said it was an error..and he called his Manager...and she said she would not PM it. So I took out my receipt for a new $2,500 TV that I got from their store and which i still did not receive.
I told her that other FS's matched the price of the brochure. So she asked to see the TV's receipt and said that she was shocked how I got it below their cost price and wanted to scan/photocopy my TV receipt. I stopped her and told her NOT to because I didn't want to cause harm to the person who sold it to me. When she knew about the TV, she was about to approve the price for the Tekken 6 bundle, but when I stopped her from copying the TV's receipt, she got pissed off and just said she cannot match it, and she can get the TV info of the system anyway (I doubt it because she didn't have all the reference and contract numbers anymore with her..so she was just saving face).
I told her, I am not one to cause problems but since this error was not posted as an error in her store (she knew nothing about the price error until I came to buy the bundle) and since I just bought an expensive TV, I was going to make an issue of it and took her card. She tried to blow it off and said I can email the HQ of Futureshop because it's not her fault (but she started to get more nervous and agitated).
So I told her it was not her fault but if others matched it and no price error notice was done then it's my right to have it honored. She said she would not honor it still and she wants to know the names of the people at other FS's who honored it. I lost my temper and told her that she SUCKS as a Manager...and I will be returning the TV, the extened PSP and the pro-calibration...but AFTER I was done with HER management at HQ. If she was nicer about it...I would have walked away much sooner, but her negative attitude and rude behavior just pushed my buttons..so I am going to give her hell. Screw the Tekken Bundle...now I just want to mess with her. This is coming from a very peacful guy...but I don't take kindly to A#$@oles.
I was so pissed off...that I decided to go to BB instead. It was not about the deal anymore...I just get stubborn when things that should go smoothly...don't.
So I went to BB at Dundas and they showed stock but could not find it at the warehouse...which was weird..they were all panicking and they told me that the Wilson BB would have it. So, I went all the way to the Wilson BB. They showed stock but ALSO could not just find it in the warehouse. It took them like 1 hour to find it. The warehouse guy was very relieved to have found it and was happy handing it over. I was so happy and the BB sales guy was about to match it when he said the difference is too big.
It all went downhill from there. He went to his manager who just insisted on not matching it and said that it was a price error that he cannot honor. I started having a quarrel with him about how long I was waiting for the Tekken 6 bundle and that they wasted my time and could have just told me from the start.
Anyway, he softened up...and said he was willing to shave 20 dollars of the retail price of $150, so I told him it was not low enough. So I then showed him the Walmart.ca Blu-Ray page printout with the $3.97 (they removed it from their site by the way with no price listed after they found out of the error...because the first Dundas BB checked the site and it was gone..so no deal for the Blu-ray from their side ;) )
The manager said he had to check the Walmart site again...and I told him fine go ahead and waste more time of mine...in a polite way...and he said that since he was gonna give me the $20 off the Tekken price due to my wait he was going to PM the Blu-ray to 3.97 (no 10% off extra..but its too small to matter) without checking the site. So he went and picked the Blu-ray up for me and escorted me to the cashier and instructed her to PM it. He was very polite...and I was polite back to him and thanked him for his help. You see, he was not an A#$@ole like the FS Manager I mentioned above. That makes a huge difference to me. Will definately be buying from that BB in the future. He won me as a customer with his professional and polite attitude. He was not stubborn..and came up with a middle-solution that would make a client happy. That is much better Customer Service I have to say.
So I ended getting the Blu-Ray for $4.49 instead of $35.99 which is BB's normal price. Oh, and I havn't even seen the movie before...so that is a bonus...even though some people say that it was a bit slow.
So, even though I was pissed that I didn't get the Tekken 6 Deal (it's dead by now)...at least I got a the Blu-Ray deal. :)
Phew!! That was the longest post ever...but I had to share this weird day with you guys! Peace! ;)

Yes, i did file a complaint. Just for the heck of it. She was just one awkward person. She doesn't deserve to be a manager...when her customer service skills are horrible.

I'm curious on how canadian corp trained their employee.
Do they just pick random bum off the street and slap a sticky note that says "manager" on his/her head.
talk about customer service.
good story nonetheless op!

Thank you for your positive response. I am glad to share my experience with fellow RFDers. :)
By the way, just to show you how bad the Manager was...as I mentioned in my above post she got pissed at the deal I got for the TV...and especially got rude when I did not allow her to photocopy the reciept.
I was not getting the item below cost for your information. I did not elaborate on that. But I will, just to show you that I was actually trying to help out the sales rep.
The reality is that the Sales rep was very nice with me and gave me a bit of discount...but nowhere below the cost price. I got the extended PSP and pro-calibration added to the purchase of the TV at a little discounted price too.
I know that unlike BB sales reps or associates, those working at FS get commission especially on the warranty & calibration...and next to nothing on the TV sale price... and I let him understand that I knew that at the beginning, so he doesn't try to take me for a ride. So he asked me politely if he could adjust the receipt to maximize the price showing on the receipt of the extended warranty PSP and the Pro-Calibration as at their maximum price (for his commission) but that would show the price of the TV less than the price we agreed upon. So just to help him out, I agreed...because the total amount I was going to pay was the same anyway.
That is why it showed to the stupid Manager on the receipt that the TV was lower than the price advertised..and when I didn't want her to copy the receipt..she just got pissed off and ruder. So basically the Manager ruined it for the poor sales rep with her negative behavior and attitude.
By the way, I called the Sales Rep and told him that I was going to cancel the deal. When he knew who the Manager I dealt with...he was not surprised and agreed that she is a B#@$. He was sad...and I really felt bad for him..but he said she should not be working as a Manager in the first place ..but a good relation with the previous management elevated her to that position. Man...she couldn't even speak proper English with me during the whole argument.
So I was just tying to be the good guy here for the sake of the rep...so its their loss...not mine. I hope everyone got a clearer picture now.
