Reading over another thread about fridges made me think to double the dimensions of the fridge we bought for our new home.

The width of our KA fridge KBFS20EVBL is 35 5/8". The KA dimensions guide says to leave 2.5" for the door to open when the fridge is located next to a fixed wall. Our is located between a gable and a fixed wall. So I assume I'd need 40 5/8" inches of an opening. Well I just checked and our finished fridge opening is only 36" wide! Yikes. This means the fridge will not fit at all. So we need to scramble to choose another one. This is disappointing bc we spent so much time picking out the perfect fridge....not sure how we overlooked the width dimensions. Uggghhh!

So we need suggestions for a fridge that will fit in a 36" opening. Needs to be a counter depth black fridge, french door on top, freezer on bottom.

At the time we were looking, there were only 2 or three we were considering so I'm not sure we will be left with many options.

To make things worse, we purchased a KA dishwasher and stove so that everything would match. NOw if we switch brands for the fridge, the handles will be mixed. I guess that's less of a concern compared to finding somethign that fits.

Lastly, when we bought the fridge we had already done price shopping and got it PM'd at Sears, who also didn't charge the PST.

Can anyone suggest a fridge that would fit our needs? I have little energy left for shopping around and comparing prices so any leads on a fridge and pricing would be much appreciated.

Talked to our rep at Sears and she said the fridge we bought is made for finished openings of 36" wide and she thinks we should be okay. However the KA website clearly shows in their features and specs pdf that 2.5" clearance is needed on the side of the unit for the door to open.

Does anybody own the:

KBFS20EVBL? (Counter depth, 19 cu ft, french door top, bottom freezer)

Can any onwers comfirm that the fridge fits into an opening of 36"?

Thanks.

(I'm thinking of calling the KA customer service line but I'm thinking that whomever answers the phone will only tell me the same stuff onthe website and wont' be able to confirm that the fridge fits into an opening of 36" wide.)
