I have a 2004 Civic (well, Acura EL) and I want to install different wiper blades. I know how to remove the inserts (rubber pieces) but I want to take off the whole metal "frame" from the J-Hook assembly. I pushed in the tab where the wiper frame is attached and pulled down but I cannot get it to slide down so I can remove it. I must have tried 40 times pushing with all my strength (trying not to bend up the arms. Is there a trick to doing this? It says pull towards "the base of the wiper arm". What does this mean? I tried using some WD40 since I thought it might have been stuck but it didn't work. My thumbs are hurting so I thought I'd take a break. I looked at a few sites on how to remove them and each isn't specific enough.

Does anyone know how to or has anyone removed the frames on the 2001-2005 Civics??

U might wanna use a flat head screwdriver. I dont have a civic, but i think all manufacturers are standardized with their wiper installation. The little tab thing is either pushed or pulled actually, try using a flashlight to see whether the tab needs to be pushed in or pulled out (using finger or screwdriver), depending on the type of installation (there should be instructions on the new wiper blades package to see which type your car is).

i've got an older model civic and yes, a flathead screwdriver or something similar makes it a lot easier

I still cannot get the things loose on either wiper. I might be doing something wrong but I don't know what...

I pushed in the tab with my finger and a flat head then pulled down (as if pulling it out of the J hook) and still no luck. Im going to go to the dealer tomorrow and ask a parts guy or service.

Hold the tab in while you move the wiper blade down. You might need to jiggle it a bit or use some wd40 if it's rusted or if there's debris that's holding it back.

I have done this and tried 40 times. Not budging even with oil

Maybe your Acura is telling you that it is always best to stay with your O.E. wiper blades.

They invariably conform better to the windshield than universal-fit aftermarket ones, and avoid juddering, streaking and lifting.

If you get the refills from the dealer, most parts counter guys are only too happy to step outside and install them for you.

You can watch how they overcome the sticking release tab as they remove the blade to thread in the refill.

If you still want to spend your money on the overly-advertised latest style in wiper blades, you can do that next time.
