I'm looking for the Acer Revo AR1600, or similar, nettop. I'm basically looking to replace my original Xbox as my XBMC box since it's chugging on the hi-def videos, and came across the article found here (http://lifehacker.com/5391308/build-a-silent-standalone-xbmc-media-center-on-the-cheap). Seems like a good, cheap solution!

Unfortunately, the only nettop I found at NCIX is the revo's bigger brother which has more ram, Vista and generally double the price!

Heya.

Just came across the same article this morning. It looks like a perfect solution!

It is for sale at Bestbuys in the US (where I am headed in a few days) for 200$. Aside from that, Anitec.ca has it for 400$. Ripoff pricing in Canada. :(

That's the best I found.

The one on Anitec has beefier specs and Vista Home Premium, hence the extra price tag. Which neither is necessary for XBMC!

Yeah, the US seems to be the only option for this so far :(

Hey guys,

Agreed.. having a tough time finding this even to get it shipped to Canada.

Thankfully my girlfriend is heading to the states next week!

Anyone able to find this with reasonable shipping to Canada? I found it CRW.. but with the low-low rate of $148 shipping to Canada? WTF?

I'm also looking for this thing in Canada... What the heck. I might email acer and see what's up about that. That lifehacker article was perfect, it's exactly what I want to replace my power hungry desktop that I just use for tv.

Quick update. I thought emailing ncix, newegg.ca, and tigerdirect.ca might have better results.

I'll keep you updated as they email back.

Heard back from tigerdirect:

"Although I do not have a definitive answer for you; I can tell you that previous versions of the Revo were about two months behind the rest of the world.
*
The product is not in the system as of yet but I expect it will be here on time for Christmas."

This is good news for us.

Absolutely. It's perfect for that task and at the price, there's nothing better.

I had the same issue with Hd content so I got the 3610, love it, but don't chuck the old xbox out, you can still play the HD on it, but just run psmedia server on your computer/server and it will re-encode on the fly any hd to the xbox.

Works seemlessly
