I believe this is one of the lowest prices in a while for a Dell Studio laptop with HDMI out.

Dell is Hell. You can never expect any good deal from them, atleast on laptops. No wonder they are losing their market share to HP.

The one I listed above in US bestbuy. It's only US $549. The only difference I can see is a smaller hard drive and a integrated video card. But moneywise, it is a better deal. I might just pick up one in Buffalo or somewhere near.

First off it's a 69 dollar difference from the futureshop.ca link you gave.
And yes, it's more than worth it.

well, I said I saw 749 yesterday. Maybe I was looking at a wrong one.
Anyway, you think " it's more than worth it", I think IT IS NOT WORTH IT. I don't play games on a laptop. Why I spend hundreds of more $$$$?

Your opinion can't be anymore subjective. This deal is probably decent at best to most people, but obviously not you. I assume most people would do some light gaming. So I don't understand why you feel the need to prove it's not a good deal based on your needs.

Good call. Compaq was the least reliable PC on the market. When they took over HP, they sent them down the same drain.

I bought that one with the ATI card. It was listed at 699 when I bought it and was actually going to link that one but you beat me to it.
Costco has the one with the ATI card there (thats where I bought it) for 699. The nice thing is that they have a 2 year warranty on the laptop vs FutureShop's 1 year.
I think the gateway is a much better deal than the studio...
Of course, this isnt taking into account buying US laptops, but thats a whole other story.

I just helped a neighbour buy this Studio 15 on Oct 16th. Her's was upgraded to the P7450 processor and Worksplus 2008 (with Word). Came to $948 + tax. It's quite easy to get the CSR to knock at least $50 and sometimes $100 off. Her's was $100 off the sale price + upgrades. Supposed to be here tomorrow. She wanted Dell because she's comfortable with the keyboard and since we're rural, retail shopping is not always possible.

Hmmmmmmmmm I thought HP bought Compaq :D
Anyways everyone has had or heard horror stories about any manufacturing company so .I just say , pay cheapest price , cuz either way it'll probably be dead in a couple years .Every week there's a different price .

This one sounds good. I know gateway bought eMachine some years ago. I happened to buy an eMachine laptop in 2004(over 2000 bucks back then). It's been over 5.5 years, and it's still running! you know what? It's even faster than my less than 2 year-old HP when surfing internet.(maybe it is running XP and HP runs vista, vista really suc*ks).
I would definitely go for a getway because of my experience with emachine. However, I heard that Acer bought getway and "it killed gateway like it killed everything Acer touched". This kind of scared me.

So it seems all of the laptops mentioned in this thread ranging from $700-850 are pretty much a wash. Dell has the best graphics, but if you don't care about that, might go with something cheaper?

I have the 1080p screen on my 17 studio - its gorgeous. Some older folks tend to complain that the text is too small, but I don't think its too bad. In firefox if the text seems to small I use ctrl+ to increase the size.
