EDIT: Actual link to the promo! (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=648061&povid=cat14503-env172199-module110409-lLinkSP1)

http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/1871/500xcustom1257348270826.jpg

I was poking around Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5395950/xbox-360-with-100-card-for-200-this-weekend?skyline=true&s=x) and Slickdeals (http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1637128) and found a rather interesting bunch of deals supposedly at Walmart US starting this Saturday. Too bad I just got back last week from vacationing in the US. :(

The most interesting deals are the 360 w/ $100 eGift Card, HP laptop (w/ Win7) and maybe the Sharp 42" LCD.

Sharp 42" LC42SB45UT 1080p 60Hz (http://www.walmart.com/Sharp-42-inch-LCD-HDTV/ip/11070376) @ $498
Sharp 46" @ $698
Sharp 52" @ $898

HP Laptop G60-519WM w/ Win7@ $298 (confirmation at Slickdeals (http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1637128). Specs aren't bad. You can always upgrade the CPU.)

Magnavox Upconvert DVD Player @ $29

Sony BluRay Player @ $148

Panasonic 46" Plasma 1080P @ $788

Xbox 360 Arcade console with $100 eGift Card (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?dest=9999999997&product_id=13044371&sourceid=12621679480423576760) @ $199
*Note: Being that it's an electronics gift card, it can only be used on Walmart.com. Fine if you have a US address. Don't know if you can order something for in-store pickup though.

Note the "WM" suffix on the laptop's name. No PMing there.

So, it's a 15.6in with an Intel Celeron 900 (2.2GHz, 1MB cache, 800MHz FSB) processor and Intel 4500M graphics. Anybody familiar with the performance/battery life on this type of combo? Bearing in mind the low price, that is. How does it compare with the Athlon 64 TF20?

My laptop has similar specs, the only difference is that it has T3400 (2x2.16ghz) processor and 6 cell battery. Brand new, it got 4 hours of battery life w/ wifi on and medium brightness on monitor. ~2.5 hours watching stuff. However now, (1 year later) I am getting like 3 hours and 2.

Hope that helps

Thanks. That's good battery life. Assuming that the Cel 900 is a single core version of the same chip (need to check that) it should achieve similar longevity. Unless WM include a smaller battery, that is.

Is the celeron 2.2 enough to watch HD movie on youtube/gaming sites? It is the only thing that I'm wary of, willl be doing word processing and web surfing+ some excel with the laptop

I was looking to buy an asus G60vx to replace my desktop but I think I will go with a cheap laptop like this one for work and a dedicated gaming desktop when I have more cash coming in with an I7 and Ati 5770

I've generated an interesting comparison page here:

http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=35583,41498,

The Celeron apparently has a higher FSB than the T3400, 4/3 the number of transistors, and a smaller manufacturing process, but it lacks the SpeedStep feature. For a single core though, it might even outperform the dual-core T3400, at least when running single apps. The SpeedStep should give the T3400 the longer battery life though.

Only thing I can think of is mount it in the car on a hinge from the roof and tell them it's your drop down dvd monitor for rear seat viewing. If they call you on it just ask them if they've ever seen "Pimp My Ride" lol. I do know of one other way of doin' it but the cost of it would pretty much kill the deal and it's sketchy at best lol.

why is there no model numbers on those TV ?Because I'm too lazy to go to Walmart.com and match their SKU with the TV. Anyways, I could only find the 42" one and updated the OP.

Duty is paid on products not made in North America. Guessing this TV is made in China, so I think you pay 5%. You'll have to pay GST+PST regardless of place of manufacture.

The only way you wouldn't pay this is if you/someone have it in your trunk, don't declare it, border officer doesn't call your bluff and you make it through.

come on, how much is 13% on $500? Even with tax $600 CAD for a 42" TV is a smoking deal already.

A quick check of the S/N (or perhaps even the non-b/l kbd, or the WM suffix) will quickly identify it as a non-CDN purchase.

I don't recognise the location, but I almost wish I was down there right now. Really sucked having a 5 day summer this year! :|

Was the flu down there as bad as it sounded?

I was wondering how they'd catch out Canadian buyers. That looks like it may be it. Usually it's by requiring a US address to mail your rebate/GC/etc to.

They's suppose to have a minimum of 10 at each store. The Wal-Mart in Amherst, NY is 24 hours, so at least you won't have to wait in the cold. But, I already heard through the grapevine that people have already started to line up.

I'm in TO but I had my aunt in connecticut score the laptop for me this morning.. now i have to get it shipped here.

im curious whether after shipping / customs /taxes whether this deal is worth it.. can anyone comment?Sales tax in Connecticut is 6% so...

$298 + 6% = $315.88 USD
$315.88 x 1.07390 (xe.com as of now) = $339.22 CAD

When I purchased a laptop in Seattle and brought it over the border, I only had to pay GST and PST since computers and computer accessories are exempt from duty as far as I know.

$339.22 + 13% (GST/PST Ontario) = $383.32 CAD

Add shipping and you're over $400.

lets say $430 so in your opinion is it worth it or no?I would personally wait for one of those famous StOOpleS clearances. They do it reasonably often.

Keep an eye out for the ones that have Vista on it as when Vista came out, they cleared a load of XP desktops and laptops.

Went to Wal Mart Bellingham Wa. on sunday & they said they sold all the 40", 46" & 50" Sharp LCD's in 23 minutes. Not only was the price great, you could get a 2yr after Mfg warranty for $29.88. A great deal.
