View Full Version : DEC: RFD GTG Studio Meet (feeler)

Nov 6th, 2009, 02:37 PM
As mentioned during the last meet-up, I'm planning on hosting a workshop for the community sometime in early December or mid-January. The studio space I'm planning on booking is http://studio204.ca - the cost per person is $10 to cover the rental of the studio. I'm also bringing in experienced models (3 for sure) and a MUA. The plan is to set-up 2-3 shooting stations with various lighting set-ups.
I'd like to get an idea on who'd be down for this and hopefully we can set a definitive date/time for this shoot.

So a weekday 6-9pm is good for everyone?
Or we can do a weekend morning (10-1)?

Weekday time looks good.
In my opinion, on a weekend, you can get more done, but people might not be available as the "pro's" might have engagements and weddings to shoot. ;)

I like weekday evenings as well, but am willing to take a day off work if it's during the day.
Just curious - with the amount of people interested, how would it work? Nikko mentioned a workshop format. Would we all huddle around and fire off shots simultaneously or take turns, or something else?

Most studio strobes will have an optical trigger. You won't need additional triggers.

Yeah. Depending on the studio.
I've used ProFoto studios. They come with an optional receiver in the power pack.
They're receivers for use with Pocket Wizards.

Not trying to be mean, but I think there's a restricted number of people this time since it's a reserved location. I could be wrong, but I would wait for more details from Nikko before reassuring people for avaliability! :)
I am off on the week of Dec 3rd (I get a week off every month), perhaps for those that are interested, we can do some street shooting in the area before heading to the studio for the evening? ;)

Update:
The studio is in a middle of a move (to Dundas/Ossington) and there's a possible chance that they might not have the old studio in December. The grand opening for the new studio is January 1st (/w 17 foot ceilings vs. 9).
The maximum it can accommodate is 10-12 photographers (3 shooting stations, 5 if shooting intimately).
I'm thinking of moving it at the end of November (possibly Nov 25 ~ will have to check /w the models) or post-pone it till the New Year.
What do you guys think?

Mine, which take on the Cactus V2 design under a different name, have been good so far!

One of my pocket wizards was acting up that night, too. The batteries were dead - mind you, they were the original AA batt's I got with them 2 years ago! I've seen a couple of threads regarding those ebay triggers where the buyers received the product /w dead batteries.
There's numerous solid reviews surrounding the cybersync's. They're a very good compromise to the pw's.
For the peace of mind while in a job, you have to pay for reliability (you do get what you pay for). There's nothing worse than gear working against you. This is what tipped me over to the Darkside :cheesygri

.....and if that fails, I'll go for the cybersync before the pw. They are more aligned with my budget compare to the pw :)
In the worst case, I guess i'll reach for the PW's.
