In our basement we have an electrical panel and fuse box in a little cupboard with flimsy sliding doors, and there is not ceiling inside, just a bunch of wires going up from the electrical boxes. This is causing a lot of hot air to escape upwards. Is there a safe way for me to insulate all of this?

Thank you,

Biggie.

I don't have a visual on the exact conditions you're referring to but if it's a air seal your looking for and it's not that big then I would try to calk to opening and it's bigger than you feel comfortable in sealing with calking then I would use foam insulation.

The opening is pretty large. Can I just shove a bunch of insulation batting in between the wires and it not be a safety hazard?

Yes just jam some in, if you're talking fiberglass insulation which is not conductive or flammable. Wear eye protection and a dust mask when working with fiberglass because the dust fibers it gives off are pretty ugly if you breath them in or get them in your eyes. And wash your clothes afterwards.
