I have observed that recently the newly released console games could be had for somewhat reasonable prices (AC2/MW2 for $50, Batman AA $38, Uncharted 2 for $55) and many that are released for 4-7months that have dropped to the 30-40 affordable range.
While the PC games (L4D2/MW2) has gone up in MSRP from $45-50 to $60..but their value still plummet faster than console games it seems. Why is this happening?
Let's just exlcude the steam 4packs or BB T4G2 promos...why is this happening? Competition is high? Curbing piracy?

old school PC gamer here..
I personally think its b/c they can. If a PC gamer is willing to spend mad money on a system that will only be at the top for 3 months, whats $10 more to him. It also could be the piracy issue but i don't think that piracy is that much of a "huge" chunk of the pie.

Well said. I once spent $120 (tax in) for Medieval 2:Total war and the Kingdoms expansion.. I'd pay just about anything if its a worthy title. I guess all the extra free downloadable content helps, $50 for a game knowing that I can get all the mods that are available makes it worth it.

Considering the budgets of these games now a days I'm not surprised at all. I remember paying 89-99 dollars for snes games.

Piracy is a huge issue. PC sales are plummeting unless its World of Warcraft. I'm just making it up based on opinion, but its likely there are more users downloading the game than they are buying it. That would account for a huge amount of lost revenue.
Its probably those two factors for prices increasing but you can't make the comparison with those console games that were ON SALE. Regular price wise, they are still identical or very close for the majority of games.

It is only lost revenue if the people pirating the games are people who have actually bought the game, but opted to pirate it instead. People who had no intention of buying a game isn't lost revenue, as it was never money they could have earned in the first place.

its lost revenue anyways because those same millions of people that pirated the game, even a small percent may have decided to experiment and buy the game.
Thats how it used to work. You buy games without the option or piracy or even demos to test games. You buy and if you don't like it its the price you pay.
Companies are losing revenue because people aren't doing this anymore because why experiment when you can just buy a pirated game. Also you lose that word of mouth advertising. One guy pirates and says the game is good to his friend, since you have the copy already, just send it to your friend and that cycle continues.
