Help with Harddrive upgrade needed?

I have this motherboard - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-51201

Its has 2 SATA 1 IDE connectors as well as # PATA primary IDE connector
# PATA secondary IDE

# ATA-100 7200RPM IDE supported
# Serial ATA-150 supported

I have two 40gb ide drives now. Can I change them to larger drives 500gb drives and put them on the SATA connectors? And then ditch the 40 gb drives

I would also like to clone the master to the SATA 1 IDE connector so it will just boot as it does not with all my programs and data

This is the computer I have http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 51159.html

If I can do this what drives would be recommended?

Sure you can. You can clone it to a new drive and boot off the new drive quite easily. Look for a 500GB Seagate 7200.12. Not expensive, excellent warranty, good performance, not prone to failure due to heat or high i/o like their WD counterparts.

So yes, both can be done.
