Shaw: new customer, how to best optimize signup offers?

I'm moving to a new place in the upcoming few weeks, so I'll be needing to sign up for internet and TV with Shaw. I've read the thread where existing customers try to squeeze a free HDPVR out of Shaw by threatening to sign up with Bell; should I expect an easier time doing this as a new customer? What should I be saying specifically?
More details: I'm planning on signing up for both Extreme for internet and two TV lines -- ideally I'd want one HDTV box (PVR would be nice, but not necessary), and I already have a SD digital box for the second line. Any tips as to what I should do to try to get the box for free over the phone, or at least a nice reduced price for the whole package?
Also, any thoughts on Bell or Telus? :-P
