Changing TVs - 52 Inch Sharp LCD to 60 inch Plasma

Hi Guys,

I currently own a sharp 52SB55U Sharp 52 inch 1080p television. I play wii on it and have an acer revo hooked up to it running XBMC connected to a fileserver for media.

I'd like to move the 52 inch into my bedroom and upgrade to a larger television in the family room. Looking for something around 60inches.

I came across the following TV at futureshop:

LG 60" 1080p Plasma HDTV** (60PS11) for 1799.99.

Could anyone comment on whether the LG is a decent TV and if the picture quality would be as good as my current Sharp?

Thanks!

The picture quality will be much better then your current Sharp, as you are going from LCD to Plasma.

As for LG, they are mid range as far as plasma goes. See if you can find a Panasonic for a similar price. Even pay a little more if need be to get a Panasonic.

With regards to price i'm looking at spending around 1800 - 2000 dollars. We really only watch TV about 2-3 times per week. Is it worth spending more to upgrade to a panasonic?

Thanks!

Panasonics don't have 60", only 54" and 65", and 65" will cost much more than $1,700. Still LG Plasma should have better picture than LCD and if you watch TV few times per week no need to spend a fortune. LG should be fine.

I have a soft spot for plasmas and like them...for HD content, the image quality of LCD and plasma is comparable.

Many LCDs suck big time when viewed at an angle, even a slight angle. Motion blur can also be a factor depending on the model.

Is plasma is slam dunk -> No.
I still think it is a good idea to practice some common sense TLC for plasmas.
