I bought a Duo X from DJXP yesterday and installed it myself..
if you are good at soldering but have never done the install before, you're much better off getting him to install it for $20!
it'll take you way longer then it'll take him to do it and you know he won't mess anything up.. :)

DUO2 is the chip which requires the loader disc while DMS3 is the one where you can just pop it in and play, is that correct?
is the installation fee the one posted on your sig?
DJXP
Jul 12th, 2004, 06:18 PM
neither of them require a loader disc, they are both 100% direct boot.
duo2 works on v1-v10, dms3v.9 works on v9 and v10 only
The dms3 offers a few more features, which people like.

wicked.. bump.. isn't it illegall to sell this shiz
DJXP
Jul 13th, 2004, 11:05 AM
Old information - rewrote main points.
- Pacific Mall + other chinese malls, only carry Clone Modchips, authentic sounding modchips somtimes, but they are 100% clones/fake
- Selling burned games with a system is illegal !
- Canadian copyright law entiles you to have a single backup copy of your disc. Canadian law also allows the owner of any device to modify such device to suit their own legal purposes without permission from the designer of the device, as long as nothing is signed ie contract.
- Canadian law does outlaw the sale or ownership of pirated games.

wicked.. bump.. isn't it illegall to sell this shiz
Its not as long as there are no copied games involved. Modchips are still 100% legal in Canada & US. If people use the systems for the intended use then there is nothing wrong. As for xbox a lot of people want to unlock the full abilities of that machine, and it can't be done without modding it. Linux for example on xbox is completely legal and does not infringe on microsofts bios at all. I actually have a bunch of articles on modchips being legal :)

you can buy a magic 5 modded chipped ps2, already modded chiped, 2 controllers, one memory card, and 5 burned games..
you can buy the system at pacfic mall.
Nice thread crap, read the rules!!:
* Thread crapping will not be tolerated. If you do not intend to buy and have nothing positive to add, please refrain from posting in that topic. If you think the asking price is too high, or want to make an offer significantly lower than the posted price, please contact the seller via email or private message (PM).
At least DJXP got to point out what a bad deal the Pacific Mall mods really are.
Bump for a very reliable seller.

Heres some buyer tips for any mod chip...
Despite the bashing of other modchip installers.
Thats not the way to sell modchips at all.
Modchips are usually installed on pre used ps2's, thus meaning the customers warranty has finally ran out and they want a chip installed. Some buy for the reason of a chip. Lately some buy a modchip because they are having laser problems, and their warranty has ran out. So therefore some modders may not test the system before installing the chip. And the customer has successfully accomplished their goal. Blame the modder for the install. Now what does the modder say?? nothing he cant. If he takes the chip out and then trys the ps2 ( like he should have in the start) he'll see it doesnt work properly in the first place. BUT the customer has the upper advantage as they'll keep blaming it was the install . And thats how a good modder gets a bad name.
If anyone reading this installs modchips, be smart and play a few rounds of a game before installing a chip for ANYONE. Unlike pacific they cannot waste anytime playing rounds and testing the ps2 properly before installing.
Thus thats how the installer gets a bad name. And like they say the customer is always right.
Ps2's are at vers 10. ... vers 4's are now dropping like flies.. laser problems, power problems, dust build ups.
My advice to anyone who is planning to get a chip.. and help for installers here.
Dont try to get a vers 4 modded if you know the dvds you put in randomly play, and look at the back of your ps2 console if you see a thick layer of brownish orange dust on the fan.. again dont get it modded.
Its your own fault if the chip dont work.. cause your a SLOB, and need to VACUUM once in a while. 1 out of every 3 ps2s brought to a modinstaller are caked with dust or have dirty lenses that are about to fade out for good.
So all im saying is if you insist you want a modchip, and you know all of the above are possible.. youve been warned.
By far the best thing to do is.. BUY A PREMODDED console..
why?
because it was modded by the installer with patience, the modder doesnt know if it'll sell today or 2 months away so hes gonna do a great job on it, cause it could end up being his if it doesnt sell.
He will more than likely warranty it for you under his name. not sony.
And you should have the box and all the packaging so you can turn it as a modded ps2 to someone else. Also if you just have to have something to b^tch about.. then check which version it is before buying and say you want it cheaper cause its not the current version ps2. But at least you'll have a fresh running system.
types of modchips are good?? .. whatever, i could write all day that the best ones are rip offs and the ones modders say are the worst ones , are that only cause they're cheap and not profitable to the modder and his time.
DJXP
Jul 19th, 2004, 12:09 AM
thanks for your input, a lot of it is very useful :)
The voltage adjustment is just on the LA chip that controls the laser. Sony puts in a 12v by default which caused v9/v10 syndrome. Adjusting it drastically helps prevents this, ive yet to get a system suffer from v9/10 syndrom since ive started doing the voltage mod on the new systems.
If the customer is bringing me an older ps2 I tell them about laser issues ahead of time, this has lost myself lots of business when they decide not to get it modded but saved me a lot of pain :)
As for the chip, generally the most expensive chips have very advanced features and the R&D that went into develop them was costly. Thus higher cost to the buyer, the profit on it is actually lower, and also another reason why stores in pmall don't carry it.
As for pacific mall, they do use clone and fake chips. I wanted to reassure this myself so I paid them a visit this weekend to find out what chips different stores. One store was really honest with me, his sign didnt specifiy what modchip they use, just said modchip. He told me they just use whatever chip will work for them at the lowest cost possible. The chips used are ones that are not as popular or known. But the chip he named me is a clone/fake chip. Other stores were not as honest and were very decietful, and some just played dumb.
Anyways midnight bump !

xbox modchip explained:
What does the xbox modchip do? The main function is to boot an alternative bios. Once it boots the alternative bios depending on what one you get out there, (mine come with flashbios installed for legal purpose). you can run unsigned code. To play divx, xvid , svcd etc it is a program. To play online you must disable the chip, because microsoft checks the bios to see if it is theirs or someone elses.
The difference in the modchips is the extra features it carries, ease of flashing, ease of disabling, and how many different bios's you can store on it.
I like both the chips which is why I buy them, im still testing other chips out there, and the ones I like I add, the ones I don't like I put aside.
The DuoX on a 1.6 can be done but its rather hard, the x2.3b lite is much easier to do a 1.6 on.

Is disabling your modchip something hard to do? How do u do it if you have an exec2.3
no its very simple, with the x2.3b there is an external switch board with an led.
you just switch the switch to disable :) the LED will light up red when disabled and green when enabled.
With DuoX you push the power button for the chip to be enabled, or the eject button to boot up in disabled mode.
They make these very user friendly :)

I'm going to get a modchip for my xbox in the near future. Will you have the X3 chip whenever it comes out? Do you think that it is worth that wait/cost to get the X3 over a X2.3 or other chips? I have a 1.6 if that makes any difference.

hmmm..what is better for an xbox?....softmod or mod chip?....what are the difference of them two...?.....advantages and diavs. ?..
modchip is always better , it is the safest way to go and you will have the least amount of problems. www.xbox-scene.com for more information on the subject, as it has been covered over and over.
Modchips let you do some pretty advanced things, and store mulitple bios's.
Modchips have an easy disable function that allow you to play using xbox live. Easily flashed to put a new bios on it if needed, and you can put numerous ones on it to switch between different features.
Easy eeprom backup and bios management, lots of addon perks.
On the newest xbox's softmods can not be performed correctly.
In general its just a safer & better choice. but again do your research on the subject, xbox-scene.com is a perfect source to check out.
If you wish to discuss more, please email me at either address digitalxpt@yahoo.ca or modchipinstaller@gmail.com
Thanks :)

Potenza: as for the game cube chips most likely I will have them as long as there are no legal issues with them. Right now the ps2 and xbox are fine on the legal aspect for what i do with them, so as long as the game cube follows that aspect I will do them. If it does have some infringment then I won't be doing it. but I will look into it more when I get a free moment.

REVIEW for DJXP, CELLEX INSTALL SERVICES
===================================
.....This review is almost a week old, as I have let the unit 'burn-in' so i can provide a review based on a few days of intense usage.....
I would like to just post up a quick review of the DUO [clone] Install that DJXP had so generously offered to me. After the initial correspondance thru email, i finally decided that my old PS2 V3 was ready to go under the knife.
Since I don't play this ps2 too much, i was looking for a budget installation and Al, aka djxp, had mentioned to me that the DUO clone would fit my budget. Considering that I am also a tech-minded individual, i figured that with the number of units that AL had done in the past, this would be a walk in the park.
DJXP had been posting on here for a couple years now and I have always considered having my ps2 modded by him, it was just that mods have always been rather expensive.. with places like Pacific Mall charging upwards of $100-$150, i figured it was just not worth it.
Since Al had mentioned the Duo clone chip installed for well under what Pacific Mall was charging, i was all ears.
I dropped off my unit to his place and he was really professional about everything, no shady meeting places or anything like that. He said he would test the unit and if it meets his experienced specification, he will go ahead and mod it. I left my phone number for good measure, incase anything is out of the ordinary.
Well, no news was good news and I just gave Al a follow up the day prior to pick up and he said he was going to get to it later in the evening, again i told him to call me if it would be late.
Low and behold, the next day I receive an email with the general rundowns of the install, of which was completed at 5am!!! I really commend Al, for taking the time for commiting to work on my machine just to meet the scheduled pick up time. My unit had a nice fresh Cellex sticker on the bottom of the casing, signifying that it was a professional that installed this.. clean and neat - not some run of the mill hack job. TOTAL turn around was 3 business days.
SERVICE LIKE THIS IS RARE FOR ANY XBOX/PS2 MOD!!!!
==========================================
So what was the duo clone chip all about?
I brought the unit home and popped in a few backups, some on dvd-r others on CD-R. NOT A SINGLE HICCUP.
ORIGINAL games also worked like a charm.
I decided to go one step further and run the machine for a few hours and put originals and backups into the unit to see if running after 3-5 hrs would change anything. Again, no problems on any media.. works exceptionally well on DVD-Rs even those of not so great quality.
Many KUDO's for Al and his Cellex Services!!!! Under Al's recommendation, the DUO [clone] chip worked great and is a BARGIN at $15 + INSTALLTION. An Honest guy providing a professional service His services pay for itself on the savings from the purchase of only one backup game (from your friend, of course)
----------------------------------
BTW, the Duo-clone is the highest quality chip that Pac Mall is bundling with their installs..unless you are lucky enough to get a genuine chip. Beware because there are other fakes and ones of much worse quality.
Also, with OLDER PS2 units, PACIFIC MALL wouldn't even TOUCH my system..because it was a V3 model.., so taking it to DJXP was a service that is becoming EXTREMELY rare, with these older models.
INJECT NEW LIFE into your older PS2's NOW!!!!

please refrain from thread crapping, cause honestly it is. but that is with trade and save so if you have those points you can get it for that, and what they do is charge you $180 + tax, then take the trade and save away, so its not really what they make it seem. Anyways it is $179.99 regular price.
I don't get these at a discount or anything, I paid almost $200 for each of these myself :) Reg with tax is $207
Really the ones I have are going to be for premods, just like freeing up some cash though.

gordon you can purchase the chip seperately and I can recommend where you can get it installed if you like.
Please wait till I have my x-mas specials listed before you post any prices. Also with tax that price comes to $176 , and you need to spend a certain amount of points to get it at that price as well. with tax on the regular price it comes out to $207. Trust me I am well aware of the prices in the market, I don't need you to tell me. $200 is pretty much my cost on the systems, and I just have them up for the time being until I am 100% about listing the slim premods.

A question:
Is there any guarantee provided with the mod?
I don't doubt the professionalism of the installer but Murphy's Law tends to raise its ugly head once in a while.
After all, a mod does void the warranty so what happens if a modded console croaks after a couple of days?

You can use it on the internet for xbox connect and x-link kai (free internet online gaming) But for Live M$ has found a new way of checking, my belief is the marriage theory, so if you want to use xbox live you will have to put back the original hdd unmodified to play on live, and use the larger hdd for playing your games off the hdd etc. Best thing to do is get a cheap used xbox for using live, and have one for modding, if Live is a must. Otherwise x-link works a lot like live and is free.

I can mod every version ps2/xbox , are you refering to the slim ps2s ?
I will be releasing the fix very soon, my friend is still in Canada and when he goes back to netherlands he will send me the updated coding for what has been developed.
The preventative method I am using for the coils has been changed as well to a proven method on well over 200 units now. It will make sure that the coils don't get burned if a crash occurs.
Yes, I'm talking about the slim ps2. How much do you charge for a mod and installation.
As for the fix, have you heard of the summOne fix? Any thoughts on that solution?
Thanks,

wow been so busy havent had a chance to check out this thread filled with questions :)
for premods, basically the price is the same if you buy an xbox and bring it to me for a mod, then buying one directly. Once in a while I will have premods for sale though. Usually when I get time to make them.
I think eb games has used for $180 or so, but not sure how good they are. I turned away 2 systems that were supposed to be for ps2 modding because one didnt read original media at all, the other took forever to load a brand new dvd game. so im not sure how reliable they are for xbox.
PS2 premods are definately going to be done, have plenty to mod :)
as for modding systems i can mod every version, so they are all good for modding, but you have to see how good your laser is. it is possible it will need to be replaced, usually <a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>eBay</a> is the source for them, i dont have axxs to laser units.
What's the best way to test a laser in 5-10mins?

Thanks for all the bumps guys :)
As far as I know every version ps2 should be capable of playing dual layer discs. Depending on how strong the laser and type of media use it will determine how well it works.
Your system was remarkably good for a v3 so I don't think it will have trouble should a good version come out. I know of a few people that got their systems modded by me just so they could play their import version of gt4 :)

WHAT?! and you didn't tell them to hook you up with a BACKUP COPY FOR "TESTING PURPOSES"?!?!??!

on the technical note, i thought there was some limitation with the ps2 versions and ability to read +R media.. and home burned (not pressed) dual-layer discs fall into that +R grey area.........
Dual-layer pressed copies like large gigage DVD's play fine, but i haven't had a burned DL disc to mess around with...

Crystal Chip - $40-$50 (I am also an official installer for them :), but no longer buy their chips, but I install them when people provide it)
Duo2 Clone -$10-$15
DMS3 - $35-$40
DMS4 Lite - $60+
DMS4 Pro - not sure.

im an official installer for the crystal chip, I get this price directly from them. I can also get a similar price from a company that is affiliated with them.
I stocked & sold them on x-s & p-s before I tried the DMS4 Lites.
Usually RFD only sees the better of the chips I sell posted. You won't have ever found when I sold the aladdin TX posted on RFD for example.
hello DJXP, do you sell a complete modded PS 2 Slim system? If so, how much?? I've been thinking of buying one recently.
Thanks,
Yes, right now its not posted as none are in stock, but there will be some soon. I was trying out something different for a fix, but I will stick with the original method. price is $320 w DMS4 Lite + altered sumone fix(sp) + puppezio fix(sp)
What's the success rate on old PS2's being modded?
Is it better to avoid it? For example, does it reduce laser life.
success rate is on modding is 100%, success rate on the laser being good enough to read backup media is an issue. it is possible the laser will need to be replaced if it can't read backup media. There are tweaks that can be done to the laser before needing a new laser, however think of it as a bandaid.

A friend Xbox is freezing and dropping his games and everything he has read leans towards his optical drive crapping out.
Do you carry them? Can you get one?
If so, any help with the install would be great. Can I install it straight in? Or will there be a bios issue?
Aaron
It sounds like the optical drive to me as well, if he wants to get a little more technical with it, then there are guides on tweaking the laser, if he has a thompson drive though id recommend buying a whole new drive together. The Philips revision 2 or the Samsungs are good drives. I personally prefer the samsungs.
Unfortunately I don't stock these components, but they are readily available on the net.
As for install, just have to open the xbox, and the drive is right there, two cables to disconnect, pull out the drive. Take it out of its caddy. Put the replacement in the caddy. Hook up the two cables, and close it back up :)
no bios issues etc, the xbox doesnt care about a specific optical drive.

Just wanted to give a much deserved and extremely late shout to DJXP for his great work. I bought an Xbox premod from him more than a year ago, and also had a bigger hard drive installed. Flawless. He makes sure you have everything you need to take full advantage of the mod. You can't go wrong with him.

I see you recommend the Magic for the PSTwo's. Whats the difference between it and the DMS4? Ive been searching around and havnt been able to find any info on the Magic chip.
DJXP
Mar 14th, 2005, 06:19 PM
The DMS4 has many advantages, but in the slim ps2 it loses the most important one, so does Crystal and MI. but here are the advantages it still holds
boots dvd movies & ps1 games automatically, (i dont recommend using the ps2 as a dvd player) - Just to clarify, the thing that is special with the other chip, is holding the power button for 3 seconds instead of tapping it for boot. It will auto boot ps2 games without doing anything special.
Ability to flash with newer bios's.
Ability to force N<a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=140 target=_blank>TSC</a> signal, so you can play pal games without patching (patching is still quite simple).

Mar 14th, 2005, 07:41 PM
I'm getting my slim modded by DJXP right now. I picked the DMS Lite for exactly the reasons he just gave. I like the idea that I don't have to do anything special to boot up games (PS1/PS2) - yeah I'm lazy ;-) and I like the fact that it supposedly has the FORCE N<a href=../autolink/redirectpage.php?linkid=140 target=_blank>TSC</a> option because there are some games that are only available in the UK which I would like to play. You never know what game might come out in the future too so I thought this was more flexible option.

the dms4 lite can do it, works fine from what ive heard, i dont have pal games to test myself.
also you can use it as a dvd player, but it will wear the laser quicker, orignal dvds go for it , backed up dvds, suggest taiyo yudens.

It takes a bit to get used to timing perhaps, but you hold down power for 2-3 seconds roughly on initial boot.
user informed me, hold power till the ps2 electrons come up on screen(roughly 3 mississippi seconds)

So I've been waiting for some time to review Al's services. I was hoping to post on a day where I could bump up this thread however that day never comes since others like him so much they bump him all the time.
I am a busy guy. Videogames and computers are not my life. I do not have the time to spend figuring out how to uplink this or ftp that. I wanted something simple that would not confuse the heck out of me, or the wife, or the kid.
My xbox was transformed into such a demon. This box really rocks. The custom menu is so easy to use and my box works flawlessly. I had a problem with my HD and Al took care of me, swapping drives and refusing to take more money. I left my brand new xbox, two new hard drives with him until I could return and never did I once worry about them because I knew they were in good hands.
Ask yourself a question. Do you want someone who knows what they're doing or someone who understand's why they are doing it? In Al you have both. I am very sure that had I taken my box to someone else I would've undergone far more headaches. I am very grateful, and suggest that you guys go out of your way to get the professional to do your mod.

Transparent Blue Case - $30 Transparent Clear Case -$30
http://www.cellexmods.com/clearcase.jpghttp://www.cellexmods.com/bluecase.jpg
Blue & Clear Transparent xbox cases:
Each case comes with about 5 pieces, top, front panel, dvd drive panel, a dvd window piece(so you can see the disc spinning, works on thompson drives easily, or use epoxy glue with samsung drives), and the power/eject buttons.
Great if you plan to add more lights to the xbox, it really makes the black xbox look boring and dull if you have one of these next to it. Make your friends jealous and buy 1 today !!

Yes and no :), don't you love those responses?
Yes it can play pal games , but No it won't convert the signal to NTSC for you to use on a non pal tv.
Sol'n Patch the games pal to ntsc, or buy a signal converter.
Patching them is pretty easy, there are tutorials on afterdawn forums how to do it.

As a bonus it has a built in charger piece, so you can charge your psp while you're connected to the pc. For me this feature is invaluble, I always leave my psp next to my pc, so it can always be fully charged. I've never used the a/c adapter since :)

Slim PS2 with Magic KX+ Modchip installed.
With this you will be able to play your legally backed up ps2 games + imports.
There is a laser protection that is in place to make sure that your sytem is safe from potential harm.
Recommended to only use dvd-r media quality Taiyo Yuden, for best compatibility and reliability.
This unit is Brand New Retail box, includes everything a retail boxed ps2 includes.
The modchip used is specificly chosen for its reliabilty on the Slim PS2, its designed so it won't cause a crash on the system, but just incase I've applied a laser protection (summ0ne fix v2.0)

Anyone know a cheap way of getting to Al's place from Toronto (Dufferin station)? and less time consuming?
The only wall in the road blocking me to get my PS2 modded (and my cousins (maybe)) is this travel issue >:(

Its do it yourself, but if you want I can do it for you for like $10
I only install the dvd window on thompson drives, if you want the dvd window installed on a samsung drive you need epoxy glue, and will have to do it yourself. I myself don't use the window mod on my samsung drive, and its not shown in the pictures, but is included in the kit.

Yes the magic kx+ will work. I don't recommend the hd mod for the slim, it is possible with a software, and usb hdd, but it is slower than using the dvdrom since it is only usb 1.0.
controller is the S , original microsoft.
I googled these images up

Ok from the pics now I'm even more confused. I can't tell what the solderless adaptor is for
The other xodus adaptor is that to plug a usb device to the xbox or is it to plug an xbox controller to the pc using the usb port?
Can I a have the destroyer game pads? I can find use for them.

solderless adapter is used for xbox modchips such as the xenium ice/xecuter 2.x modchips. You can use this in version 1.0-1.5 xbox only, not 1.6. Basically replaces soldering. Its always better to have it soldered, but a lot of people go this route because they can't solder , don't want to ship their console to have a chip soldered in, or don't want to spend the extra cash.
The usb port plugs into the xbox, it allows you to hook up things like a usb hub, keyboard & mouse. This is ofcourse works in linux.
You can have the joysticks if you want, but you'd have to pay for the shipping costs, unlesss you are picking them up :)
Cheers,
Al

It depends on what you'd accept. Old PC games are not very heavy to shipping is cheap enough. Take a look at my lists, the link's in the signature.

lol :) I wish I could but I don't have the necessary parts, nor have much experience with the laser changes if that is needed. From the sounds of it you might be lucky and its just your la508 that has blown because the romeo fix wasnt applied to your unit :-/ , something a lot of installers im finding still do not do , and I just don't understand why they can't take the extra minute to do it... I have done a couple of these types of repairs but i've never done the lasers on it. If you can find the la508 for cheap somewhere , perhaps we can figure something out :) i am also going to check something in the meantime, ill pm you in a few days :)

Please PM me when you get a chance. I have some questions about DS accessories. Do you have more than just the leather case? I may want to add something to an order you already have of mine.

thanks for the bumps :) been a bit busy, just updated my thread also.
As for the slim ps2s, usually they are the new v14/15 systems which I don't have chips for, but I also have my last one for v12/13 pending atm, so no more ps2 modding for now. Work is just too busy lately to give me any extra time for hobbies like modding :(
It was fun while it lasted though, and hopefully I will get time during the summer.

awesome, latest word on the street was on hacking the xbox 360 firmware, but not much more since. if that is the only way then depending on the legalities of it I might not be able to do that :-/ Will check my sources again later this week to get the updates on what is going on though.

Al, you are always busy dude! Let me know when you are able to do something with the 360 and I will make my way back up to Maple. Finished NFSMW and still playing Black (different skill levels)... You've got to make time for the product you service. Have a great weekend.

Hey Jason, nothing yet, and no longer modding ps2/xbox, no more time. Yep always working lol. I will have more time down the line, hopefully when a good soln for xbox 360 exists.

Hi Al
* your PM box was full *
Thanks for getting back to me...I got my hands on a 1.6b Xbox that was dead. I did that "Collector Chip" fix and brought it back to life. Then used the parts from the 1.0 modified the case to fit a 1.6 and bought a Xeinum Gold Chip and it's all good.
I do not need a chip anymore but thanks and will keep you in mind for the future. :)
Thanks Al

hey thanks for letting me know it was full I didn't even realize that.
The xenium is a great chip for that sort of thing because of the way that it works compared to the other chips. For what you needed to do I think that was the best chip to select as well.
Cheers,
Al
