Do 2.5" portable HDDs like the WD My Passport work for inside the car playback? I have an Infiniti G37 and it has a USB port. Since I don't have an ipod I was thinking of buying an HDD and just putting all of my mp3s on it for the car. Would it work? I know the car can use flash drives as well so maybe that'd be a better solution since they can take more shocks and such?

The 2.5" HD's will work in a lot of cars. However, they will take a lot longer to read due to the larger storage size, and the moving parts will make it more susceptible to shocks. I recommend getting a large capacity thumb drive instead, less headaches.

can you use an iPod with those USB ports? That would be ideal. (although charging might be an issue.)

Unless you get an automotive grade drive, a normal drive will freeze during the winter and either not work, or worst case, get damaged.

ssd would be ideal but the USB ones are really expensive and there's not many choices. :) a 32gb thumb drive might do the trick.. I was looking at getting an ipod but it wouldn't be as practical. thanks :)
