From March 1 Kijiji.ca has applied new rules for new and used car dealers. From now on dealers are forced to pay 15.99 per car if they want to have their cars advertised at Kijiji.
How is this going to affect car dealers and customers who have relied on it?

Not a bad idea since dealers profit from it. But what about private individuals that want to sell their cars, will they have to pay as well?

Awesome. I think this will weed out the lowest-of-the-low type ads.

hmmmm....
This is good, but how will they factor in the whole dealer vs. Joe trying to private sell his car.
I see a couple of dealerships always massacre the ads every 2-3 days when simply searching 'lexus' or 'toyota'

I hope Youtube and other sites do the same. I hate searching for car reviews and getting 10,000 25sec template ads from various dealers.

Good move. I'm tired of seeing dealer ads all over Kijiji, their place should be Autotrader.

Private sellers are restricted to no more than 2 cars.

I can't agree more with that Youtube comment. Many are just slideshows, not even video.

I like this idea. Kijiji was made to be kind of like an online garage sale. IMO dealers shouldn't be allowed on there period.

...they've done a reasonably good job there as well. I dont know if all ads are screened manually or what, but those ads have suddenly plunged.

My understanding is that they use real people screening ads in certain categories along with automated filters. Or maybe the filters rate the "spam-potential-level" and a real person checks? Anyway, in comparison, I find it hard to wade through the tons of spam at Craigslist.

or maybe people are learning to report spam/scams.
Kijiji always had the option on the top right to report the ad.
