View Full Version : Front door install... is the builder delaying?

Here's the deal... unfortunately 4 months ago (while the house was still under construction) there was an attempt to break into our house. It looks like the individuals literally tried to kick in the front door. (We receive possession today)

So during our pre-inspection it was noted, and the builders representative mentioned they would look at it to see if it was fixable but most likely it would be replaced.

I received a phone call yesterday to update me on the progress of the repairs being made and the builders rep now says they will not replace the front door until the temperature is a steady -5 or higher.

This to me seems like a stall tactic considering the weather has been above 0 for the last 2 weeks (since inspection) and is slated to be above 0 for the next week.

Does anyone have any input as to why they would have to wait for warmer temperatures?

I really don't want friends/family coming over to our new house and the first thing they see is a badly damaged door.

It's obviously a delay - 4 months ago was the end of November and it was colder then than it is now.

I would communicate with them your concerns, and that you were told when the temperature was above -5 (for a period of time) that it will be done, and that it appears the temperatures will be above that.

The one thing I can think of is that they are waiting for it to be warm enough to paint. Is your front door painted after the fact or factory painted? Either way, they could still install it and paint it later....

I discussed it with the site manager today. He says that they're going to look at doing it on Monday now that temps are higher. Their issue is painting it. They don't want to paint it then have to re-paint it due to cracking.

It's been unusually warm here - so that's probably why they were pushing back (thinking it would turn around).
