I'll be seeing this one...
From all the people who have seen this one already, every one of their reviews I've read have all loved the film.
Apparently this one is going to be more 'serious' and be much better than the first one.

keep in mind that i havent seen the movie only trailers but i have concluded that this is what i like to call a "transition movie" meaning it is just story filler to get to the REAL movie... I.E. spider man 3... where i can come to conclude that the enemy is none other than the great symbote himself... VENOM............ MUHA....................
my bets on the last thing you see is a flash of venom's image... probably in the moon or something.. but who knows... could be in the rock thing that JJ will bring back to earth thus starting the venom wars :D MUAHAHHAHAHAH spider man 3 will own so bad!

I doubt it'll be Venom... it'll be too sci-fi like.
From what I've heard though, it's almost a shoe in that it's going to be the the other Goblin (harry), apprently they tease it alot in the movie. Either that, or the Lizard as that Professor is in this movie (cameo?).

It'd be cool if they made it like the Bond series..maybe not that many..but like some of the major villans...Venom an Carnage would so kick ass! But itd take alot of story..effects..prob span a few movies..

Yeah but they'll have to replace the two main characters.
Dunst and whathisface already said 3 is enough for them.

I got to see Spider-man 2 last night and I will not ruin it for anybody but I thought it was really good. Alot of action and web swinging thru the city in this one. Doc Ock was really well done with his arms and does he ever give spidey a whoopin. Have fun seeing it when you can. I would suggest going as soon as you can, it was awesome.

just saw it today afternoon (played hooky from work :), loved it! no spoilers. great movie, worth watching. prob first movie this year i thought was good (esp after crap like hellboy and mediocore stuff like van helsing).
a bit longish, only 1-2 scenes thought felt dragged out. lots of little humor. See if you can spot stan winston! i saw him at least once, maybe twice. no talking by him tho in this one (remember his and the original hulks cameo in Hulk? lol)
by comparison, i thought the first spiderman was kinda boring and only watched it once, i think this one is quite excellent. maybe the best comic book adaptation ever?
the science was pretty hokey and wished they fleshed out doc ock more, but c'est la vie...

I really like her in Spiderman as a redhead, but she's kind of blah as a blonde. Plus I read an interview of her's recently that made her sound sort of stuck up :/
But the movie was great! I never did read the comics and only watched very little of the show when I was a kid. I also haven't gone to see many superhero movies, just not my thing. But it was gooood.

Why does everyone think Kirsten Dunst is good looking? I thought she was the ugliest actress next to a super hero. The guy who played Spidey (forgot his name) is ugly too but at least he sort of fits the character he's playing. I mean, compare her to someone like Natalie Portman and you'll notice the HUGE difference.

you've gotta be kidding me... right?
Any half decent minded male will think that Kirsten Dunst is pretty. I dont know whether you find her ugly in general, or in comparison to someone like Natalie Portman (Both are really really good looking in my opinion)

Is it true they got fission and fusion mixed up in the flick?
Apart from science nitpicks (since this is the world of comic books and Green Goblin's glider didn't exactly conform to physics as we know it either), I have heard many wonderful things about this motion picture. I may see it shortly.

I went to see it last night.... I can't believe I got in at 10pm on a 10:15pm showing... and I got half decent seats too...
Overall I thought it was really good, some good acting scenes, great action, good comic book feel and unexpected funny parts too. Thought some of the people screaming shots were a little cheesy (but perhaps it was meant to be that way too).
Anyway, I agree with felix... Kirsten Dunst is not pretty.... she might have a nice body, but her face is not stunning at all.. aside from crooked teeth... they try to make her look all pretty by caking on the makeup and using soft/filtered shots, but it really doesn't work for me...

kirsten is like that one girl in seinfeld who was ugly in certain lighting... sometimes kirsten is pretty, sometimes she looks like she got hit hard by the ugly stick.
not the best mary jane imo, but good enough i guess.
the science was extremely hokey (ok... do you REALLY need to create a 4 armed super device to flip around a bunch of switches? did you REALLY need to give it AI? did you REALLY need to hook it up to your brain?), and the whole fusion/fission/whatever thing was silly (yah, i'm sure any government is going to allow black-hole type experiments in the downtown of a large city!!) but what the heck, its the comics!! lol

oh speaking of plot holes... (highlight to read, spoilers ahead)
the train? why did spidey have to shoot webbing and *hold* it? I mean, if the webbing was strong enough, why didn't he just run ahead of the train and start maing a gazillion webs to "catch" the train?
Sorry, I just thought that was an obvious solution. You know, rather than holding it all together...

It was awesome......didn't go in with much expectations (as I normally do for any sequel), but this one nailed it, it was pretty close to perfect as a comic book movie could be.....of course the science was ridiculous, but hello....this is a comic book movie.
Great action, lots of clever comedic touches, touching love story, it's got something for everybody. Probably one of the top comic book movies.

oh speaking of plot holes... (highlight to read, spoilers ahead)
Uhm....
1) He didn't have much time to think about it, and since he was on the train he thought of stopping it on the train.
2) He is swift but he was never known as a 'runner', so I don't know if he could outrun a speeding train, then have enough time to make a Gigantic webbing to stop a train carrying that much momentum.
Slowing it down and eventually stopping is one thing, but a sudden stop for a train going that fast, even though the webbing is flexible, it would still be like running into a wall, and thats if it worked

Totally agree, she was weak compared to everyone else. Though I thought the Harry O. thing was a bit stretched too. A few plot holes and things that I thought they could have addressed better, but nothing major.

There's no chance for either Venom or Carnage to make the 3rd spidey film... Raimi has already said so (doent like either character).

Kirsten for MJ is the weakest in both Spiderman 1 and 2. She just does not fit to that character and I don't see her pretty. She looks like a girl who put needle in her arm every night.
I watched that in Eglinton Town Center at 11:50am today. Usually, for that threatre, that kind of time and that kind of day (2nd day after the opening), I can always sit in the middle of some nice row. i.e. Lord of the Rings and any big movie. Today, the first time, I need to sit in the 3rd row in the front. I could see Peter and MJ's facial hair holes in close up. Boy! Their skin were bad. Their make up guy/gals should have done a much better job than that. And, of course, MJ's teeth.
Harry looks better but may be he did not have too many close up. And the skin of the face of Dr. Ock and his wife's are better in those close up shot.

Venom was the guy in the black suit  He took over that 1 dude..like he took over Spidey..he was facin Rhino an almost took him out but then he relized wha he became an forced him out..then Venom found that dude...(this was from show, never seen a Spidey comic :( ) Carnage was the red dude..like in Carnage av..I think he was a bit crazier 2...Carnage could turn into stuff like objects...knives..etc..Venom turn into othe rpeople (correct me if I'm wrong..havnt seen cartoons in like 10 yrs)

It was still so lame how the metal arms had to do with the actual science experiment. Half the crowd in the theatre were in a WTF expression at that point of the movie.
Ah well, it was a great mix. Ladies will come for the love story + Toby. Guys will love the action. CG didn't look nearly as fake this time around.
Best movie this summer so far IMO.
I don't remember how Doc Ock came into being. But you're right about Venom.
Regarding Carnage though, wasn't that also a sentient being cloned from the Venom suit?? My Spidey history is quite shaky as it's been so long since I touched comic books.

Yeah he was the guy who pulled another person away from the falling debris on the street. Guess he is going to be doing an Alfred Hitchcock move by doing cameos in the films (did he appear in the Hulk?). Funny I saw him interviewed last week on CNN about the movie and I liked how they addressed him as the "creator" of Spiderman, Hulk, Fantastic Four, etc. As if he alone was creative genius behind all those comics. I guess guys like Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, etc just went out and made coffee in those days. :(

yup, got to agree plus it was at least 1 hour too long.
I wanted to cut my wrists every time auntie parker came on and shoot myself when mary jane blithered endlessly about her obvious mental and emotional problems (is she like, 14?). and the dream sequence with uncle parker - puhleasse, end the misery.
on the high point, the russian/serbia? girl in the sshithole parker was living at was like 100 times hotter than mary jane - spidey should had taken up with her (hey, what a crazy mole on her left eyebrow - melenoma?) and dumped the whiney redhead.
the subway fiight scene also entertained especially with the rockstar body surfing of spent spidey....i wanted to whip out my bick and set the flame to high :)
otherwise, what a colossal waste of money and time - the first one was better...w.dafoe ruled.

This is the only credit I'd give to Stan Lee: he was a good manager. He invented the "Marvel" way which is to not dictate over the artist but just give the artist some general guidelines and let him work the actual art through.
Other than that, I hate how he takes credit for everything. What an egotistical maniac.
Oh he was in the Hulk as well. He walked out with Lou Ferrigno the security guard in the beginning of the movie when Banner first walked into his lab.

As many reviewers have already said, this is the best movie ever made featuring a comic superhero (I'm not sure if that's saying much giving the company it's in, though). I totally hated the first movie; due in most part to Willem Dafoe and that ridiculous Goblin character. But, this movie had it all - great special effects, a worthy villain and great comedic pieces scattered throughout the movie - the elevator scene was hilarious. This movie really delivered and it finally answered that one important question - when was peter going to tell MJ that he was Spiderman.

Jul 6th, 2004, 10:39 AM
Some of those in that page are stupid and can be explained away.
This one esp.:
Audio problem: It's clear that due to the tentacles' heaviness, they have to made some kind of sound when moving. But yet when Doc Ock takes the tritium from Harry in his house, he leaves without making any sound at all.
Doc ock only made sounds when he used the tentacles to walk. If you watched the movie, the tentacles are practically silent when they're moving in air :)
The others are on the anal side ...
Carnage
Jul 6th, 2004, 10:44 AM
Yeah, 90% of the mistakes listed on movie-mistakes are just plain anal.
I mean most continuity errors are just pointless. Who cares if a small scar switches cheeks from scene to scene. Of course these mistakes are going to come up. It's not like each scene is shot in one go. Most scenes are spliced together from multiple good takes, etc.
Do people really go to the movies and look desperatly for these types of errors?
Although it is interesting seeing some of the funnier mistakes. The Star Wars one of the Storm Trooper nearly knocking himself out cold comes to mind. But I haven't seen a really good one for Spiderman.
RW99
Jul 6th, 2004, 12:16 PM
After I watch a movie once or twice, I like reading about these errors. It adds replay value to the movie the next time I see it. However, I do not like the "Factual error" ones.
When Spider-Man is fighting with Doc Ock and Doc Ock throws Spider-Man through the overhead pedestrian bridge, Doc Ock throws Spider-man in the direction of travel of the train, and when passing through the bridge, Spider-Man doesn't touch anything. When Spider-Man comes out the other side, he is "behind" Doc Ock (in terms of the direction of train travel). This implies that Spider-Man has slowed down in the air - fair enough due to wind resistance - and so is traveling slower. However, Spider-Man then hits Doc Ock, which implies he is now traveling faster. A physical impossibility (since the horizontal speed doesn't increase and decrease when thrown, only the vertical speed).
That's just dumb.
Carnage

There's just some stuff in movies that is physically wrong, but need to be to add excitement, etc. Stuff like that don't bother me.
Movies would be boring if the laws of physics were always followed.
Like who would want to watch space battles in Star Wars with no sound?

As an avid comic reader and lover of comic continuity, One thing that didnt make sense was how Doc Ock was able to take Spideys punches. In comic contiunity he's just a normal guy with the arms, Spider always had trouble getting to him and when he did, all it took was a few punches to knock him out. He must have gotten punched about 10 times in the face in the entire movie, and in the comics he has been knocked out or dead because of it. Technically Spidey can lift around 10 tons and his punches are a few tons of force i'd imagine. The excuse that he 'holds' back his punches really isnt plausable since near the end at Ocks base, spidey goes nuts with punches to his head when they are both in the water. I guess it was impilied that Ock had gained super human endurance/strenght from the expirement gone awry or the arms, cause he was able to take a nice big fat dose of electricity at the end also....
There were a lot of other things bothering me about the movie, mostly nit picky things only someone into comics would know about though... One being they didnt at least introduce Gwen Stacy... Geez seems anyone having to do with the clone saga has been forgotten forever....

Actually I think Kristen would have made a better Gwen Stacy than MJ.

Im going to see it again this weekend. As a Spider-Man fan for the past (gasp) 23 years I thought it was very good. I thought they were going a different way with the story when they : Spoilers below
He lost his powers, I thought they were going to either do the 6-armed Spider-Man from years ago maybe in the next movie, but then that would have to include the Lizard and Morbius.
There are so many story lines they could persue. I hope they keep it old style villians for a bit.

Does anyone think this movie could of used a better musical score?
It's been said before in many places, and I agree. This was such a great movie, but it really lacked anything memorable in terms of score.

This movie needed some Hoobastank. Loads and loads of Hoobastank. Every frame should have been lathered in Hoobastank.

I know the thread is old but I finally got a chance to go see it. It was really good. The wife hated the first one and love this one. There's the good old barometer.

yeah, I thought it was alright. I hate first week crowds too.
It's funny how in this second one, everyone knows the real identity of Spidey (his best friend, Mary Jane, Doc Octopus, the passengers on the bus). While in the first one, no one knew who he was except Green Goblin :cheesygri

I have no problem with 1st week crowds because I usually watch the new movie in a big cinema at noon of weekend.
I had problem with the not new anymore movie (aka this Spiderman 2). It was shown in a small cinema room and there were a lot of people. Small and crowded. Now, you would ask why did you watch Spiderman 2 so late?
The answer is: I went to a wrong room. I wanted to watch another movie but went into this small room; cursing the threatre until the movie started .... and run .... :o
The other room is much bigger and had least people. Fortunately, both movies started at the same time. Hence, I did not miss anything. :cheesygri

I totally agree. I got a chance to watch Spider-Man 2 on DVD this past weekend. What a great movie...filled with so much eye-candy. It is really pretty to watch. But Doc Ock really took a lot of abuse in this movie but seemed impervious to everything, including a fall from the top of a clock tower onto a moving train!! Holy backbone, Batman!
As an aside, when I was watching, I got the distinct impression that people in Peter Parker's life know he is really Spider-Man. Aside from Harry Osborn and Mary Jane, both of whom saw Spidey unmasked, I think Aunt May and Robbie Robertson have figured out that Parker is really Spider-Man, just from the insinuation in their voices.

well, spidey took a lot more punishment too. He fell from 30 floor height at least 3 times and immediately got up :D
anyone else get the idea that he is superman in disguise ?

Yea..well it isnt about realism..see doc ock jus standing on his own 2 feet..then pick somthin really heavy up? That all on him..not usin 2 arms to brace himself..couldnt do that..an yea..spidey could prolly fall 30storys..itd hurt..mayb enot 30..but it prolly wouldnt kill him heh..proportionate to a spider..
