Planning a trip soon and unfortunately my dog will need a sitter. Any insight on Dog Kennels in the West GTA (Miss-Oak-Burl), the good / bad.

Thanks in advance.

Parkers kennels, I've heard they are good.

Haven't used them myself, my neighbour used to use them frequently and was happy enough with their services.

We boarded our pets at the vets, handy if they needed any medical 'stuff'. Seemed okay as our vet keeps his 'boarders' in a different area from his 'patients'.

Boarding is expensive though.

Now, my daughter looks after our pets when we travel.
Much better situation, for the doggies at least. :)

I've heard some good things about Wag-a-way Kennels (http://www.wagaway.com/)

They are in Oakville, on Trafalgar Road near Rens Pet.

I have used Wag-A-Way for years now and they are simply wonderful and very reasonably priced.

Trafalgar road just north of Upper Middle and nowhere near Rens at all.

Boy after reading the menu of services for this Wag-A-Way, I miss Paws-A-While that much more! Paying seperately for a 5 min walk, group exercise, social interaction over and above the standard daily rate???? I paid $30 a day at Paws A While, they had 3 hours in the PM to run around and play, social time with staff, exercise, included.

Poor animals who stay there for the standard rate - cooped up in their cage for however many days with no walk, playtime or affection :(

Haven't used them myself, but I've heard good things about Holly's Pride - located in Burlington and Ancaster

When I started the on-line search I saw the same thing ... everything seems a-la-carte when I'm looking for an All-Inclusive :)

Thanks for the responses ... keep them coming we plan on visiting at least three before deciding.

I haven't tried it but I've heard about Wolfman K9 in Caledon. Lots of land and it's an in-home setting not in crates.

http://www.wolfmank9obedience.com/den. They will pick up and drop off if necessary.

I've called a few and wasn't too impressed. Now I'm going the boarding route with a Dog Walking Service. A bit of a personal touch without all the a la carte expenses.

I hope you'll share your impressions of this service in case others decide to go this route....

If I were to board my dog with a stranger, I'd make a 'smoke-free' clean home and fully-fenced yard prerequisites. I know of lazy dogwalkers who lounge around at dog parks with the dogs in their care and do nothing with them the entire time them they're there. They'd much rather convene with their 'gossip council', drink coffee, smoke, talk and let their dogs get into scuffles with other owners' dogs and poop where they want and never scoop.

If you've not already booked and you'd like to know who not to book with, PM me.

Quick Update.

Due to the last minute nature of our requirement we've been severely limited because of availability. Having said that, we did book with a boarding/walking service in Oakville (Snoopy Dog Walkers).

I'll update on our experience after our dog's stay.

Thanks for all your recommendations !

Props to FURRY FRIENDS DOGGIE DAYCARE (http://www.furryfriends1.com/) in Burlington. When our son bailed on us we had to find a spot for our 11 year old and 1 year old dogs for a weekend. Our puppy had gone there for day care when an elderly relative visited so we had used them before. Our 11 year old does not kennel well however she came back in great spirits.

Open concept area (no cages) with 4 separate areas for dogs complete with couches, tv etc. and all the exercise they can handle. $50 a day for boarding 2 dogs with no added charges.

Sounds more like a pen for dogs. I've noticed various boarding facilities providing larger play areas for all their dogs and then at the end of the day, they go home with whomever overnight. Wouldn't be my choice. My bully would only go to a 'bully' home for bulldogs.
