View Full Version : Citibank Mastercard closing?

I received a letter from Citibank that they will be closing my Mastercard Drivers Edge Platinum card as of Nov 1/2010. The reason given is that as part of CIBC's purchase of their credit card services they would be closing Citibank Mastercard services. I can continue using my account up to Oct 31/2010. Any outstanding reward amount I have will be given back to me via cheque end of the year. From reading the letter, there was no stipend on having to buy a car to get the amount back. Getting a cheque with no attachment to buy a car would be quite nice and since I've moved to C1 Aspire as my primary card, it's ok for them to close it and give me what I've earned so far.
Anyone else get this letter? I am thinking since the Drivers Edge provided premium 2% return, it was deemed too rich a rewards program by CIBC and thus they are closing it. Or perhaps CIBC is closing all Citibank Mastercard services?

The letter didn't have much detail. It would be quite drastic for CIBC to close all Citibank Mastercards however the letter just said closure of Citibank Mastercard services which means all to me. It could be perhaps for grandfathered Drivers Edge accounts that do not have the annual fee which my account falls under. The only worry really I have is that this card is one of my older cards with long credit history with large credit limit and what this closure would do towards my credit score.

PURCHASE OF CITI CARDS CANADA INC.'S MASTERCARD CREDIT CARD ASSETS BY CANADIAN IMPERIAL BANK OF COMMERCE IS COMPLETED
TORONTO, Sept. 1 /CNW/ - The purchase by Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce ("CIBC") from Citi Cards Canada Inc. ("Citi Cards") of a substantial portion of the assets comprising Citi Cards' Canadian MasterCard credit card business was completed today. Attached is a press release of CIBC providing additional details respecting the completed transaction.
In connection with the sale transaction, CIBC has become the seller and servicer of assets under the Broadway Credit Card Trust ("Broadway") securitization programme, and will replace Citi Cards as Broadway's administrative agent and as a credit enhancer. Citi Cards will act as a sub-servicer of the assets on behalf of CIBC for an interim period. In connection with the sale transaction, $285,413,851.51 of receivables from 1,350,639 accounts were removed from the pool of accounts subject to the securitization on the basis of delinquency or low credit scoring. In addition, defaulted and charged-off accounts were removed from the securitized pool.
A notice of meeting and information circular dated July 14, 2010 was prepared by Citi Cards in connection with the meeting of noteholders held on August 12, 2010 to approve changes to the Broadway securitization programme. A copy of the notice of meeting and information circular is available on SEDAR at www.sedar.com. Additional information regarding the sale transaction and its impact on Broadway is contained in Broadway's Management's Discussion and Analysis dated August 30, 2010 under "Recent Developments - Implications of Completing the Sale Transaction", which is available on SEDAR.
In connection with the assumption by CIBC of the administrative agent role related to Broadway, Wojtek Niebrzydowski and Andrew Kriegler, each officers of CIBC, will be directly involved in CIBC's capacity as administrative agent for Broadway and as such may be considered to be acting in a capacity similar to that of a director under applicable securities legislation.

The more important question for the ones received the letter is " Do you carry a balance or not"?
There is some parlance for "performing" and "notperforming" cards and I am not sure which are performing (the ones with balance that they are going to keep) and close the nonperforming ( the ones you pay in full) or it is the other way?
Apparently CIBC has 14 Billions in outstanding balances on their VISAs and Citi MC had around 2 Billions ( on 1,350,639 accounts)

I have a Citi Petro Card Mastercard I've been using consistently for the past 3 years. Haven't received a letter from Citi or CIBC....yet.
I recently opened an MBNA Smart Cash so I'm not to worried if I lose my Citi Card.

My Drivers Edge that they are closing never carried an outstanding balance. No way would I carry a 20% AR monthly. I liked the card a lot even though I had it cloned 3 times within the last couple of years. Citi was very good in reversing everything quickly and getting me replacement cards.
I used the rebate to buy my 2009 minivan and it was very nice to get back the amount I did. Now that they are closing it, I think I'll stop using my Aspire for the next couple months and maximize my purchases back on the Citi card for the that 2% return final rebate cheque.

This has been my go-to card for the past 3 years as we now spend 30k+ a year and have cashed in on a couple of rebate cheques of 3K plus a couple of warranty and price protection claims. So whether they convert your card to a CIBC card or cancel it outright sounds like is random? I sure hope they don't cancel mine. I've had that Citi credit account (various cards) for almost 15 years (probably twice as long as my next oldest card). I'm sure my credit rating would not appreciate the hit.

Boo...they're closing my Enrich Platinum account on Nov 1. The only reason given is it's a result of the sale of a portion of Citi's Canadian credit card portfolio.
This is the only card I've used since 2001. I've never carried a balance so is that why they're axing me, because I don't give them any money?
I've also received about $600 in extended insurance claims, but those were handled by World Travel Protection so that shouldn't affect the decision. Or maybe it does.
What card should I transition to now? No fee, cash back and extended warranty are the only things I really care about since I never carry a balance anyway. I'm thinking the Capital One Cash Back Gold MasterCard offers what I'm looking for, but it's only 0.5% cash back on the first $3000, instead of full 1% on everything of the Enrich.

This sucks, Citi had some of the best cards, Cibc's only good card is its Areoplan. Hopefully they don't mess around with the Citi cards they took over.
As for closed accounts, based on what they said in the report, cards that were delinquent or had low credit scores were closed. But based on the amount of the receivables and the total accounts, the average balance on these closed accounts was only about $200, which seems really small for delinquent accounts. Maybe they are dumping "good" credit holders as well, as in people who pay off their balances while also redeeming rewards and/or low spenders, basically the people you don't profit off of.
Anyways, I hope I don't get screwed, driver's edge was by far the best none travel card. Haven't received anything in the mail yet, and for those who called in, did you receive any mail from them as well? Are they cancelling/converting just the delinquents, or they cancelling delinquents and converting all others?

Sep 17th, 2010, 10:16 PM
I don't consider my going to be closed account delinquent. With high credit score (close to 800) at both Equifax and Transunion and Citi providing an ample credit limit (25K). The only fault against me is like you said, I'm probably a non-profitable account for them. I pay off monthly, redeem regularly and use their Platinum services. Sucks of course but its CIBC's choice to have me as a customer or not.

ugggg, this is the oldest card on my credit report. haven't got the letter yet, but I fit the profile (never carrying balances, always redeeming rewards) of some of those here that did.
kind of odd that CIBC would be doing this. I've tried cancelling an aerogold and it seemed like they were really trying to get me not to cancel.
ETA: IIRC, at one time they were even paying people retention bonuses not to cancel their CIBC visas. so unless I'm missing something, what they're doing with citi mcs makes no sense.

If my card program (Petro Canada MC) is cancelled, then they might as well just cancel me too, as I have absolutely no interest in any of CIBC's existing crappy CC offerings.
Seems like a strange move for CIBC. I can't see why they would retain many customers by doing this (cancelling 1/2 the accounts and transferring the other 1/2 to totally different CCs). Why buy the business at all?

It sounds like extremely bad business practice if they would indeed close those accounts, especially for a bank of CIBC's size. They should have much interest in building good customer relationships, even with customers who pay their CC bill in full every month. They obviously sell more than CC products.

Called and was told my account has been sold and will not be closed. Any changes to rewards structure or insurance coverage, etc. will be implemented by CIBC once they begin administering the cards. CSR said it will take a minimum of 12 months before CIBC is ready to assume administration. Platinum Enrich, for the record.

ok so MC Petro point cards closes down, but why would this impact my petro points account !??? It should'nt though - well at least in my understanding. I had an option of having a separate petro point card or having it on my MC and chose to have a PC master petro points card !
Would my petro points account not still stay active as its a different account number altogether ?
Also why would my credit history be impacted ? so if this vendor doesnt stay in business, I think my history of regularly paying bills responsibly should still stay in the systems of trans-union etc - am i wrong in assuming this ?

It is not card specific. Citi Cards PORTFOLIO (meaning all the cards Citi carries) has been sold to CIBC as of Sept 1.
So far it looks to like CIBC is being account selective and not card selective. Driver's Edge and Enrich so far as I can tell.
They have mainly taken the "good standing" accounts although there is quite a bit of bad ones. At the same time, for whatever reason, there are good accounts that have not been bought by CIBC at the time of sale.
They sent me a letter in the mail dated the 14th, and I got it on the 17th.
All the letters have been sent out on the 15th of this month so those that are being impacted should be receiving them.

It will have no impact on your Petro Points. All the points you earn get transfered to Petro once a month. Worst case scenario, if your account is not in good standing when the account is closed, you might just loose the points you earned for that period.
Closure of the MasterCard has 0 impact on your points card as its totally separate.
Your credit history might be impacted if this was one of your oldest cards.

Its not a really "i heard something" matter. All of the Sobeys accounts have been sold to BMO and BMO has taken over and is now servicing those accounts. This was as of last month.

Dear Ms. Wilson
On Monday, September 20, 2010 I received a letter from Citibank MasterCard informing me that my Platinum Citibank MasterCard account would be closed as of November 1, 2010. I was told that as of November 1, 2010 no transactions whatsoever either debit or credit would be possible on my MasterCard account and that all extended warranties provided for items purchased using my Platinum MasterCard would be null and void as of that date.
Over the past 22 years I have seen my MasterCard account change hands from one bank to another several times and throughout it all I have remained a very good and loyal MasterCard customer.
Needless to say I am absolutely livid that the extended warranties for the very many items purchased using my Platinum MasterCard will be null and void as of November 1, 2010.
I am sure I speak for every other MasterCard customer when I tell you that I will never use or trust MasterCard again.

You have to understand one thing. As of Sept 1, Citi has nothing to do with your account, except for maintaining it on CIBC's behalf until they take over. Sending any complaints to Citi's higher ups becomes essentially useless as you wont get anywhere.
Extended warranty is provided by a third party in any case. I am not 100% sure what happens in this case, but I would call the provider, World Travel Protection at 1-800-667-4273 and confirm directly with them.

Well, its still to early to say for sure I guess as there is a chance the letter might still be in the mail, depending on where you live. You can always call in and confirm with the rep as they will be able to tell you whether your account is sold or not. As for your second question, I am not really understanding it. Do you mean which CIBC card Citi accounts are going to be switched to, or....? If that's what you meant, nobody really knows. As of this year, Canadian banks are allowed to issue both VISA and MC's under one roof so to speak. Having said that, it would make sense that CIBC keeps existing MC accounts as they are, and continue on with them. Same was one when Citi took over Canada Trust. However, nothing is 100% for sure yet as CIBC hasn't come back with their "game plan" yet.

I thought Canada's regulators had rules against banks operating both Mastercard and Visa? Hence how I got my Citibank Platinum Drivers Edge in the first place, it was a transfer from Canada Trust when they became TD Canada Trust and had to dump their Mastercard line because they already had Visa.
If so, all the Citibank Mastercards would have to go away, unless they resold them to someone else who can handle Mastercard?
EDIT:Ok, a couple minutes research shows they're planning on keeping both.. Either the rules have changed, or TD lied to us when they dumped the MC users.

The rules are loosening up apparently. RBC started offering MC a few months ago. It was only a matter of time before other banks followed.

Canadian banks were only able to carry one 'brand' until recently when that changed so they can carry multiple brands. So no, TD didn't lie to you ;)

My expiry date was 10/10 and I was checking for my new cards in the mail every day until :) it arrived last week. I obviously never received any letter stating my card would be cancelled so there must be a valid reason why those who haved...it's not just by chance. Credit score, history, useage, balance, etc....
For us, we put atleast 60 transactions a month on this card. You just can't go wrong with this no-fee card (grandfathered in). It's my vote for best reward card, atleast for those who like cars:-0 And that would be me!

I had a grandfathered no-fee Platinum Citibank Drivers edge card shut down on Nov. 1st.
But I was just on the Citibank website and it is still possible to apply for the Drivers edge card. Apparently Citibank is still adminstering the cards for CIBC.
Did the CIBC purchase cause the shut down of only the older Drivers Edge cards that were no fee? Or did all the Drivers edge cards get shut down including the newer ones?
I'll be annoyed if they didn't give me the option.

I've had my platinum Citibank card since 97, back when it was TD that ran it.. they shoved it off to citi... upgraded it around 2004? to the platinum drivers edge. Received a ~$3800 reward earlier this year, have another $300 available since then. So it's not all cards.

Mine's still alive too. Goes back to '95. I think I upgraded to Drivers Edge Platinum around 2005?

Thanks for the reply. Both my husband and I had the Platinum Driver's edge cards. Both were shut down on November 1st. I figured we cashed out about $9000 in rebates over 10 years. We never incurred any interest charges. So that probably explains why they closed our accounts. Credit ratings are immaculate so that was not the issue.
It's kind of amusing to think that a perfect credit rating and paying your bills on time means that you are no longer considered an ideal customer.
Capital One was more than happy to pick up our business. The Capital One World Aspire is nearly as good and offers a bonus 10,000 on your anniversary and 35,000 to enroll. So it effectively almost pays for the annual fee.

Once again, it has nothing to do with what type of account you had.

If you took some time to read the thread, you would realize that is not the reason. While 99% of closed accounts had to do with individuals over all credit worthiness, there have been accounts that CIBC DID NOT PURCHASE (based on whatever criteria they used) that Citi had to shut down as of Nov 01 as they could no longer be serviced.

Sorry to hear that my Drivers Edge platinum card my be soon coming to an end. I cashed out $3400 in 2003 and $5000 last week (they said the cheque was in the mail on Nov 9th - haven't seen it yet :).
Any recommendations on what those of us with perfect credit ratings who pay of our balances each month should switch to?

I am surprised so many people used this card. At the end of the day all it is is a 2% cash back card with a very huge restriction that you can only spend it on a car or other auto. Most people would probably work out far better under the MBNA Smartcash which also has no fee, or many other for-fee cards.
I guess my point is I am surprised so many people were paying a $59 fee for the driver's edge. It really wasn't that great.

They just recently introduced the annual fee for this card, I've had the platinum drivers edge for a few years and have accumulated 1K using it as my go-to card. No annual fee on mine.
I still use my smartcash card for gas and groceries, but 2% is better than 1% on everything else.

I didn't receive any letters about my enriched platinum card closing, so I guess they are keeping my account. But its sad to hear that its closing soon because this is the credit card I like the most. I guess I need to switch to another one. Anyone have any suggestion as to what credit card is similar to the enriched platinum mc? :(

Best card in my opinion (if you lease/buy cars every 3-5 years) and it does have price protection and extended warranty as well. There is no annual fee with my card as I've had it since Fall 2007 (before the fee came about). I suspect there are alot of us who have the no fee card.

No annual fee on mine since I've had it (around the year 2000), so for doing nothing other than using one card I've got $8400 back in 10 years. I needed to buy cars anyways.

If you received a rebate chq and haven't submitted a rebate request, your account was then closed as of Nov01. Just call in through the automated system ... if it tells you that your available credit is 0, then your account is closed ;)

I just received my Citi Petro-Points MC replacement card a couple days ago. My old one expired. It's funny getting these things in the mail and I have no idea it's coming. It always takes me a few seconds to clue in. "Why am I getting this stange looking credit card in the mail?........oh yeah, now I remember!"
I've had this account for, damn, must be at least 25 years in one form or another. It started out as a plain old Petro-Canada-only. At some point over the years it changed into a Mastercard. If that was when Citi took over, I don't know. I just can't remember when or how it transformed. It began with a $500 limit and has grown to $7500. I doubt my statement balance was ever over $200 at any one point in 25+ years, although when I first got it I was young and stupid and probably carried a balance from time to time.
I've hardly used it in the last 10 years for a few reasons. I've never used it for anything but gas. And Petro-Can gas stations aren't convenient to where I live now. I dug it out of my safe, ohhh, must be 3 or 4 years ago when we went on a bit of a summer road trip as a just in case credit card...and I think I did use it once on that trip. And that's the last time I recall using it. I did get the occasional zero balance statement in the mail, maybe twice a year, I assume as a subtle reminder that I have the account.
Anyways, I've heard nothing from CIBC/Citi. So I assume they're keeping my account open.
I should check my Petro-points balance. I have no idea what's there, or even if there is anything.

So far - I've recieved no notification and the exact same statement as always.
Its been a *godly* card for me, and the one with the longest standing for me. I hope they just continue the same rewards and the credit ratings that I've built up over 15 years. It would really peeve me if they made me switch over to one of their new cards (would probably cancel in that case)

I started this thread. I had received the closure letter from Citi. As part of Citi initiated closure of account, they waived the requirement for car purchase and issued a rebate cheque instead. I had no choice in the matter.

I'm not am insider, but this may help.
I received my replacement card (no-fee, long-time customer, redeemed twice for cars) a few weeks ago. My old one expired December 2010, so I would say that they are continuing. The only thing that changed is the fact that they do not put your picture on the card anymore, but we knew that from a previous letter we recieved.

Which card? Driver's Edge? Enrich?
Who ever got the Driver's Edge card prior to June 2009 will have their card grandfathered with no annual fee. Cars obtained after that date have a $59 annual fee.
As for the Enrich card, there are no changes.

Heh. That'd be funny if they discontinued it on me.
I seen on my Transunion report they reported the old account as closed and are now reporting a new account. Which ticks me off. I'm going to call them and ask them why they did that.

I have a card Drivers Edge card valid til this summer. This week got a letter saying I am eligible for a credit limit increase! I was surprised because I figured the card might be reissued as a CIBC card when it expires in a few months.
I hope the card continues even if under the banner of CIBC, but I really wish someone (either Citi or CIBC) would tell customers what is happening. Why have some customers had cards closed, while others are continuing along with no worries? There is no info on the CIBC website (other than news release from last summer) and nothing on Citi website. A simple letter inside your statement would be nice to explain the process and timelines.

A simple answer is this;
CIBC buys CITI's MC portfolio. At the time of the purchase, CIBC does NOT purchase all of CIITI's accounts as some account do not meet CIBC's lending criteria. Those accounts that were not purchased, have been closed by CITI. Purchased accounts continue on and will be converted over to CIBC later on this summer.
There is no further communication to provide. As for timelines; CIBC should take over by the end of the summer.

OK i see your point. I am not bothered if my Citi card becomes CIBC...its ok with me, i would just prefer to know if the Drivers Edge program will continue or not, or what will happen to my points if it discontinued (and is it worth continuing to use the card and earn more points!)
My only beef with citi is that I have a high credit limit, but it seems if I hit $700 of spending in one day or hit several transaction my card gets declined! Even when I have been going to the US and I call and tell them I am going to US and I will be shopping and spending money in a 1-2 day period, it still gets declined and I have to call in to get it released. I understand they have software to protect my card from fraudulent use, but if I call them ahead of time.....that should take care of it!

do you think fraud only happens in the country you reside? Just because you let them know you're travelling, doesn't mean your card is not going to get blocked. Depending on where you go, especially Florida, the bank may still block your card if they suspect unusual activity, especially since if it's not in your regular spending pattern in terms of amount and stores u visit.

no of course fraud can happen anywhere, but when I call and tell them exactly what city I will be in and that I am going shopping, you would think when the alert goes off, the notes on file would be reviewed....otherwise what is the point in reporting it in the first place?
I have also had the same issue when I shop in my home area in stores I always shop in. I appreciate the security aspect, but its a bit much when you spend $200 in canadian tire and its frozen. I use my card all the time for most of my monthly spending and have done for 4-5 years.

I've travelled with it, and have only been declined a purchase when I didn't call it in. I just called them from the store, and that took care of it. I've never experienced or heard of a "block" for an area. There are times when Christmas shopping that I thought the security was a little much, but at least they are being careful.

Credit limit increase letters that were sent out were "authorized" by CIBC. In other words, it was initiated by CIBC.
To the second part of your question. No communication has gone out as CIBC has not come forward and said what will happen with some of the cards and programs.

What does the fact that the card is accepted all around world have to do with your card getting blocked. Your card is accepted everywhere where MC is accepted, however, when the card is blocked by CC issuer for secu reasons, its another thing.
If you travel outside of the country, with any CC issuer, let them know.
Certain transactions are more high risk then others and will sometimes get picked up by the system.
Locations where the transactions are done will also play a factor as some are higher fraud risk then others. Ie. A lot of fraud happens in QC.

So I ran down to my desk and pulled it all out. And sure enough that insert is in there. But it doesn't say much.
I have the Citi Enrich Platinum. I wonder how it's going to work since I already have a CIBC Aerogold Infinite Visa. If I had a choice I'd rather they just cancel the Citi Enrich Plat and move the limit over to the Aerogold. There's no other CIBC card I really want.
Has this happened before? If so, how do the banks/issuers usually handle it?
EDIT. For the record, my account can be traced back to about 1985 (although the credit bureaus don't look at it that way). It started out as a regular Petro-Canada credit card. Then over the decades it morphed into a few different Petro-Can card types before finally settling into a Citi Petro-Points Mastercard. And just recently I changed it to the Enrich Plat because there is no Petro-Can station convenient to me.

Which Citi credit card was the letter referring to?
Its not specific to any type of card. As it has been discussed, Citi MC portfolio has been bought by CIBC. All the accounts purchased by CIBC are getting these inserts with their statements. Its nothing new or exciting ... CIBC is just letting customers know what's going on.

I also receive a red card telling the same thing. Mine is a Enrich Platinum.
OH NOES. guess i will getting mine soon...
well hopefully i can merge the limit to my cibc plain div card. There is nothing really i want from cibc except (churning) the aeroplan infinite xD
btw there is no credit check needed for converting cards in cibc right?

yeah i know cibc acquired citicards. i was just wondering which citi cards were transitioning over to cibc this time. it was enrich, then drivers, then something else and something else, and not even all enrich/drivers cards are affected. i still have my platinum enrich and haven't received any letter if my card is switching yet.

What do you mean "this time"? No card has been transitioned yet. No one got a letter about their card switching.
This is only a (very little) piece of information about CIBC coming out of the dark to their new customers. Every cardholder got it in their last statement.

Citi started out by cancelling some of ppl's cards (and some ppl's cards like mine hasn't been cancelled by Citi), i guess that can be considered that part of the process of switching/transitioning/whatever you want to call it? Yes no one has received the letter about the card being switched (yet), but CompWizrd and a few others received the letter about the acquisition, saying more info to come next month, so who knows what info will be revealed.

will our credit score/history be impacted by the change. I have had a citi mc card since 1995 when it was originally a Visa card - so it is my longest held credit card and plays a large role in propping up my credit score - with the change, will my score change or drop? Thanks

I'm in the exact same boat except I got mine in '96. The credit history will probably be, unfortunately, wiped.

I seriously doubt the history will be wiped clean. It's not a nice thing to do and CIBC knows there might be some backlash over it. Any reasonable company won't risk pissing off any of their new customers.
For example: Capital One recently bought out the HBC accounts from GE Money. All that changed on my Transunion report was the name. It used to say HBC/GE. Now it says HBC/Capital One PLCC (or something like that). All the history remains like nothing ever happened.

Thanks for the link.
So it looks like those with the Enrich (Plat or otherwise) will be getting the Dividend One Mastercard. Which looks to be pretty much identical to the Enrich Platinum (upon first glance...I didn't look too closely).
Hopefully, when/if I get the card I'm going to call and ask to move the limit to my Aeroplan Infinite Visa and then cancel this card. I honestly have no use for another CIBC product. I hardly use my Citi Enrich Plat as it is.

Looks like Driver's Edge holders will be upgraded to the top premium World status, albeit in name only, since the card doesn't have any of the premium benefits associated with World status. Here's hoping they improve that. At least we get to walk around like rich posers flashing this card.
One crappy thing about losing Citi, it was one of the very few card companies that offered price protection, the best insurance now gone  . Drivers instead gained flight delay and a better baggage delay/loss insurance, plus a bonus earnings rate 2-3% at high end hotels/restaurants/golf etc. And they changed it back to 5 year expiration for the points, the previous grandfathered rate, I'm assuming any newer holders will drop from 7 to 5 years.
Petropoints card got a good boost, 50% bonus rate at grocery and pharmacy, plus free $500 worth points per month if spend minimum $1k. Use it only on grocers $1k per month, then convert that into Asia Miles at 1 to 1, and you have a Free card that is effectively giving you 2 points per $1. Very good rate of return.

Well I just called CIBC to make sure. They said that there would be no change for me (it would remain without any fee for my two cards on my account). They also said that I will receive an official letter explaining the transition.
From there web site it appears that most of the stuff is still there:
2% cash-back for a car (main point of the card)
extra 1 year warranty (second best feature if you ask me)
3 month insurance against lost or stolen goods (used only once)
500k$ death insurance for public transportation (don't care)
car rental damage insurance (useful when traveling)
they also added:
flight delay and luggage insurance (not so useful but better than nothing)
paypass and chip (obligatory)
extra CIBC points (I have yet to see what it is worth)
We might have lost price protection, but I never used it. I agree it was better than flight insurance however, so yes, it's a downgrade but not that much. I will still be happy if it remains free.

That is correct, there is certain criteria it must meet to be branded World.
One interesting thing is M/C requires Ext Warranty for World, BUT VISA on the other hand does not for Inifinate (which is why CIBC Aeroplan Infinite can get away with no ext. warranty).

Very true. Feature to feature World M/C > Infinite IMO. M/C also imposes higher personal income as well and my FI at CIBC (offers both cards) tells me M/C has stricter guidelines for World MC than Visa does for Infinite.

i checked out the new Capital One cash back platinum Mastercard- only they have an annual fee of $99 - but this is offset somewhat by the fact that they offer 2% cash back when you spend between 15K-30K. So you actually come out ahead of the 1% citi card if you spend 30K or more a year. And the capital one card also offers price protection too!

Probably the MBNA Smart Cash Platinum Plus MC, with no annual fee, 3% cash back on gas and groceries, 1% cash back on everything else. If you want to sign up for this card, support RFD by clicking the link in the sponsored sticky thread at the top of this forum, or you can also sign up through Great Canadian Rebates and get $60 back.
And the capital one card also offers price protection too!
It sounds like Capital One's Price Protection process is more of a hassle compared to Citi's, though, according to some of slaman's old posts in the Aspire World MC thread. You have to call the insurance company that underwrites PP for Capital One to get a case number, then they'll mail you a personalized form that you have to fill out and mail back. Slaman stated that he had to wait over 30 days to get the form and that's after calling in several times to enquire/complain. Citi's process, of course, is easy peasy: download the generic form from their website and mail or fax it back.

I got a letter from CIBC today (two letters, actually.)
I'm an Enrich Platinum cardholder, and the one letter says I'm being moved over to the CIBC Dividend One MC. It says to continue using my Citi card and the new CIBC card will arrive by the end of the year. It came with the cardholder agreement and all the other typical legal forms/notices.
The 2nd letter tells me the same thing, only it says that I am a Citi Petro-Points MC cardholder and I'll be moved over the CIBC Petro-Points MC. Funny. I cancelled the Citi Petro-Points MC back in December and upgraded it to the Enrich Platinum. So it's probably just an overlap in the records that CIBC received from Citi.
Or I'll end up with two CIBC MCs. Who knows.
All I hope is that they'll allow me to merge the credit limit to my Aerogold Infinite Visa if I cancel the Dividend One. (Or, I might cancel the Aerogold and move the limit the other way...hmmmm, I'll have to think about that.)

.....well I just received my little update package from CIBC since I have a Citi Drivers Edge platinum card (without annual fee, member for 6 years). On my summary of rates and fees page, it says that there is a $59 annual fee >:((but is waved for the first year). Additional cards a free. Well big deal, so i go from no annual fee to an annual fee.
So I called up CIBC and although they were very nice and unsure about what may be possible, the customer service rep said to call back before the annual fee comes due (before 1 year after receiving CIBC card). I'm not very happy as this is my go to card and was planning on purchasing my car off lease in March 2014.
Personally, I just don't feel this is right! So cancel the card right, well, that is a strong possibility. But I would loose the $$ towards next car purchase..... I also have a CIBC Aero Classic card ($29 annual fee), which I downgraded fo few years back (from aerogold) since the Drivers Edge became our go to card. Aero card member for 13 years.
Anyone out there who has the CITI Drivers Edge Platinum card (no fee), who received a CIBC package and does NOT have an annual fee? Just curious.

Crap, that's how I thought they'd do it (waive it for a year). Good luck getting it waived a year from now when the desire to placate transitioned cardholders is long gone. Personally it won't affect me, since I'll be buying my next vehicle inside the next 6 months for sure. At that point I'll just switch over to the Dividend One. Then my TD Infinite Travel Visa will become my main card (for non-gas/groceries).
Also, I wonder what (if anything) will happen for people who currently have both a CIBC Visa and Citi MC? Is CIBC going to be keen on doubling (or more) their exposure with a single cardholder? Right now I have a $13.5K CIBC Visa and $18K Citi MC (have been at those levels for probably 5+ years). Is CIBC going to let me keep both (or merge) and have $31.5K in (potential) unsecured debt with them? I kind of thought that's what they were doing when they cancelled a whole bunch of people's cards last year (avoiding doubling up). I guess either they weren't or they are comfortable with me at $31.5K.

Say if I refuse to switch to CIBC, can I ask for my year-to-date 1% rebate chque on citi enrich card right now?

Yeah, pretty much the same with me regarding credit with 38K credit between the 2. The CIBC Aerogold was our goto card to a good 8 years and now the drivers edge has been for 4 years. We put everything possible on the card, so we average over 100 transactions and 3,500 a month. We also had our mortgage with them which is now paid off. I will not be paying CIBC $88 in annual fees each year...that is one thing I know. I don't want to cancel as I'll loose my drivers edge $, so I may need to do something, not sure. Good news is I have just over a year to decide. Maybe a Kia Optima is in order.
MBNA Smart Cash here I come? We'll see.

Got my letter today as well. Citi Drivers Edge MC become CIBC one with $59 annual fee.
This fee is annoying but more important question: will I be able go get my rebate already earned? should I buy a car before August, or before next August, or does not matter? The letter is not very clear about the rebate.

Am I reading it right. Does the Dividend One not include Car Rental insurance?
I think I'm going to shelve this card, sign up for the MBNA Smart Cash card, and then cancel the CIBC card when I receive my rebate cheque in January.

Doesn't seem to speak to when the Drivers Edge rebates will expire. Current Citi customers rebates expire eithere after 5 years (older no fee customers) or 7 years (more recent fee paying card holders).
New deal is 5 years but not sure when clock starts for already earned rebates.

That's what I'm wondering too. I have a $20k Aerogold Infinite and my Enrich Plat. is $17.5k. Since CIBC never cancelled my Citi card I'm betting they're cool with me having $37.5k in unsecured debt with them. So I'm skeptically hopeful (does that make sense?) that they'd let me cancel one but move the credit limit over to the other. Not that I'd ever need $37.5, it's just the fact I had to apply for it and/or work my way up to that level....and I'd hate to lose it.
I sent CIBC a message on the weekend regarding this. I got a response earlier this afternoon. In a nutshell their answer was "We don't know yet. Wait and see".

Btw, does this affect our credit? My enrich was one of my first cards.

.....well I just received my little update package from CIBC since I have a Citi Drivers Edge platinum card (without annual fee, member for 6 years). It is the same to me. I have received two letters from CIBC today. The good ole grandfathered CITI Drivers Edge Platinum card is now charged $59 but it will be waived for the first year. I have not used this card since CIBC took over because I was unsure the implications at that time. Now it is confirmed and I will cancel this card. My other CITI Enrich Platinum is moved to CIBC Dividend One, 1% and caps it to $500 a year and it is no fee. I will keep this one for now.

That was the only reason I used Enrich Platinum, too. I milked it for all it's worth (price protection, that is). Price protection was Enrich's only real advantage over the MBNA Smart Cash card (I have both). I don't see any benefit to this switch to the CIBC Dividend One card, except for CIBC's credit report alerts, which sounds like a somewhat useful cool tool. I will probably keep the Dividend One card just for the alert thingy and use it very sparingly just to keep it active.

The card holder agreement gives CIBC the right to debit deposit account you have with CIBC or an affiliate to settle your credit card balance without prior notice. Given that I bank at PC Financial, a CIBC affiliate, and the new Dividend One is just a run of the mill cashback card, I probably have to start using another card.
So MBNA Smart Cash is a good card? Any good cashback card with price protection?

Yeah, I think you'll have to read the t&c, but I think it only kicks in if your flight is delayed by 4 hours or more and it causes you to incur expenses, like meals and hotels and transportation costs. Also if your baggage is lost the insurance will pay to replace it beyond what the airline pays (if the airline pays anything).
My Dad had to use it quite a few times with his Amex and he found it useful, but he was quite the extensive traveller. I had to laugh at the time his flight to Acapulco (I think) was delayed by something like 5 hours and he half-jokingly submitted a receipt for dinner he and his 2nd wife had in the airport while waiting, plus a couple magazines, a novel, and a few drinks they had at the bar.
It took a while but they paid him back every penny.
edit. obviously YMMV. My Dad had an Amex since forever. The running joke in our family was that his Amex card number was 12. So he may have had some leverage when dealing with Amex.
Sorry for the derail.

Nobody said they were going to outright cancel this card! (some did say they would cancel other cards based on fee and not using it). There was a lot of chatter back and forth, but if someone has this card, doesn't use it, and doesn't have a fee, why would they keep it and pay $69 a year! How is that being a RFD'er. Nobody is going to give up $$$ obviously, we are just venting about NOW having an annual fee, that's right NO ANNUAL FEE and then all of a sudden being charged an annual fee. Ofcourse we are going to talk about cancelling but it depends on the $$$ involved.

I was waylaid in Europe for 9 days last year because of the volcanic ash cloud. Happily enough, I was there on business, so my employer paid my meals and hotels. Doesn't work. They have to be at the same address as the primary card holder. This was the rule under Citi at least. Not sure what will happen under CIBC, but I assume it would remain similar.

To be an “Eligible Vehicle”, a vehicle must meet all of these requirements:
- It must be owned or leased by a Cardholder or by a family member of the primary Cardholder
who lives at the same address as the primary Cardholder. Vehicles purchased in a business
name or through a broker or leased through an independent leasing company are not Eligible
Vehicles.
Doesn't have to be a secondary cardholder, just a family member at the same address.

I went and bitched about it with both CITI and CIBC and they both said NOPE can't do anything about it. Your rebate will be transferred to your CIBC and if you cancel, you lose it all. Going to have to do some sort of complex calculation to get the left over rebate to as low as possible before jumping ship.

Read the fine print though. I called in and double checked.
The annual fee will not be charged prior to August 19 2012. Thus, if you opened your CITI card between January and August, then you essentially waive the annual fee for a period of nearly 2 years. I opened mine in May, and thus I have no annual fee until May 2013.
I'll keep it t'ill then and change afterwards... I think that's the best solution? Whatcha guys think?

I'm on the grandfathered credit card with no annual fee with Citi and the notice I received is they will only waive the $59 annual fee for the first year after I get converted over to the CIBC Drivers Edge MC. I think everything else is the same except the Price Protection benefit.
I'm planning to close my account and switch over to a different card. I was lucky I clear my credits in Nov when I bought my car. Bye Bye Citibank Drivers Edge. You served me well for many years. The best no fee credit card before CIBC bought them out.

Jun 8th, 2011, 02:00 AM
^ Capital One offers Price Protection, which has similar rules as Citi's (e.g., up to $100 per item and $500 per calendar year). Complete PP rules can be read in this PDF file (http://www.capitalone.ca/documents/ca/Gold_MasterCard_Benefits.pdf) about their Gold MC.
The PP process for Capital One is this: you have to call the insurance company that underwrites it, then they'll mail a personalized form to you, which you then fill out and mail back. According to slaman in some old posts in the Aspire World MC thread (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/capital-one-aspire-world-mastercard-new-challenger-crown-best-travel-cc-897409/), it took over a month to get the form and that was after he made a few phone calls. Besides this, I haven't read any other account about someone claiming Capital One's PP (but I don't usually check out threads about Capital One's cards).
As for stories about using Citi's PP, dude, you were the OP of this thread: Citi Price Protection: Experiences? (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/sticky-citi-price-protection-experiences-507692/)

As for getting a replacement card now - you can simply call in and request one. No questions asked.

I just received new cards from Citibank (Staples Mastercard) and the expiry date is 2014... my cards were supposed to expire 7/11 and was confused why the hell would they send me new cards when they were supposed to close on Aug... Anyway, gave them a call, and they confirmed that they are shutting down on Aug, and that the Cards are good until then... So in your case, if you want replacement cards, they would probably give you one... although I wouldn't probably bother... it's about time you switch to other cards anyway... I haven't used my Staples Card ever since they announced the closing...

why do it now? unless you just bought/leased a car within the last 60 days. Otherwise if you currently lease, wait for CIBC to take over effective Aug 19th and then submit a request to get 1 lease payment back (once per year allowed with CIBC). If you don't lease, then you outta luck, although there is a post somewhere about someone getting a very small percentage back without buying a car....

As you may already know, CIBC has purchased part of the Citi MasterCard portfolio. As a result, your current Citi MasterCard card account will be replaced with a CIBC MasterCard Card account, as referenced in a letter sent to you in May.
Citi Cards Canada Inc. will be deactivating Citi Cards Online as of August 22, 2011. On this date, access to all functionality will cease including access to previous statements and any automatic recurring payments you have created through Citi Cards Online*.
Please save or print any historical statements you would like to keep for future reference prior to August 22, 2011.
No automatic recurring payments will be processed after August 22, 2011. Please contact CIBC on or after August 22, 2011 to make arrangements for any future automatic recurring payments you would like to set up with your CIBC MasterCard.
What to do
You can register your CIBC MasterCard for Online Banking, on or after August 22nd 2011.
Visit CIBC Online Banking @:
https://www.cibconline.cibc.com/olbtxn/registration/RegistrationLanding.cibc
When registering you will need your:

Yes, your credit card number is the payee account number.
If you are concerned (as long as you have some time left before the bill is due), add the account, and pay $5 to it and wait for the transaction to show up.

Why is it dumb? Do you know what it takes for a migration such as this to happen? It is not a matter of emailing a few account numbers to CIBC and calling it a day. Email was only sent out to inform you that your existing online service with Citicards online will be terminated as of the 22nd. CIBC has to have all the account #'s on their system in order to service those customers, have their past history on file and so on.
CIBC is not sending out all the cards at once as they dont want a huge wave of old CITI customers flodding their lines and activating the cards. That is why they are being sent out gradually starting Sept 1 until the end of the year.
All the current CITI cards are active until you receive and activate a card from CIBC.

It would be pretty dumb of them to remove online access and not have anything to replace it. This is the 21st century, people rely on it. Plus, I seriously doubt the account number will be the same as the account number that Citi issued. If account numbers were remaining the same then having automatic payments wouldn't be an issue, but apparently it is an issue.
I'm well aware of the amount of work it takes to make this migration. It's been a year, I'm sure they're on top of it. Why would they set a date of Aug 22 to begin registering the CIBC MCs and NOT have the cards ready to roll? Why go to all the effort to have it ready by that specific date and not have any cards issued to use it? If that is what they did, then it doesn't make sense...and hence the term "dumb".
And activation can be automated, so that shouldn't really be a problem. It doesn't necessarily require human intervention. I have many cards that I've activated without talking to an actual person.

If you look at things in perspective, your account is being transferred to CIBC on the 19th. So until then, CIBC can't grant you online access or send you a card simply because you're not their customer yet. They shouldn't even have a record of your transactions.
CIBC is acquiring millions of new customers overnight. All those new cards aren't gonna print and send themselves the next morning. It takes time and patience and until then your Citi card is still useable, so I don't see what the big deal is.

I tend to agree but all correspondance from CITI/CIBC is that until we receive our NEW CIBC card (Sept 1 thru Dec 31), we use our CITI card as normal. If I don't receive my new card until the end of the year, then I am unable to take advantage of the CIBC web-like features and review my statement online, etc... if I can't register with my CITI Card #.

Same thing happened with old Canada Trust accounts when Citi took over - Citi still has those old CD #'s on file.

So every few days I tried to sign up on the CIBC website with my current Citi MC number, and the system kept treating it as a debit card so I could proceed no further.
Well, today it actually recognized my number, showed me the access agreement, allowed me to pick a password and those stupid (in)security questions, but errored out at what I assume is the end.
I tried again and got the same thing.

So looking at my citi mastercard statement online I see it was issued on Aug 15 and my payment due date is Sept 6th. Its still a normal citi statement I typically wait until near the end of the month to make my payment (via web banking). From what Ive read, CIBC takes over the account as of Aug 19. So does this mean I should be making my payment to Citi or should I add CIBC as a new payee? Anyone else in this situation?

My guess would be if it's after aug 19th, payment goes to cibc, before that, citi...but of course, just a guess.

No, you will still make the payment to CITI unless you get notified otherwise. In any case, even if you make a payment to Citi by accident instead of CIBC, Citi will still forward your payment to CIBC so you don't have to worry about it.
When you get your new CIBC account #, update your banking info and from that point start making payments to CIBC.

Thanks guys...I thought I had read somewhere that if it was a citi statement to pay citi and if its a CIBC statement (regardless of whether they have sent an actual CIBC card yet) to pay CIBC. Guess I'll wait until the actual statement arrives in the mail and see if it says what to do, and will call citi/cibc if necessary to clarify. I agree though, would like to think that they would have in place a plan that if people make their payment to citi that it will automatically forward it to cibc if necessary

I forgot all about this happening today.
Is there a way to see both cards under a single login?
I just logged in my usual way - with my CIBC Visa number and password, and up popped both the Visa and MC accounts. I don't have any kind of bank account with CIBC, so I don't have a CIBC debit card or anything.
I can't do anything with the MC account, other than change it to paperless. No history is available whatsoever. I don't plan on using the card at all until I have the new one in my hands.
Citi just reported the account to Transunion late last week after going a couple months of not reporting anything. If I was a gambling man I'd bet they will just change the account name from Citi MC to CIBC MC once I activate my new card, and I'll retain all my history. Just like when Capital One took over the HBC accounts.
I see they changed my MC account number ever so slightly. If I hadn't thought to check I probably would have thought they kept it the same as Citi.
Once I have the Dividend One MC in my hands I'm calling them and asking if they'll cancel my Aerogold Infinite Visa and merge the credit limits together. By the sounds of it, it's an easy thing to do. It's coming up for renewal this October so the timing should be good for me.
(off topic: This is CIBCs last chance at impressing me. Their Visa and Aeroplan was a waste of time, money, and effort. Definitely not worth the $120 annual fee. I could have had another Ipod Touch if I had kept all my focus on Airmiles, but instead I got nowhere. Aeroplan=treading water. Lesson learned.)

Hmm, I still can't sign up for eStatements. According to this (https://www.cibc.com/ca/features/creditcardestatement.html), you should be able to sign up for it via "View eStatements" --> "Statement Preferences". If I click on "View eStatements", however, I just get this:
You are not authorized to receive eStatements.
To view eStatements for a CIBC Credit Card, you must be the primary cardholder and have chosen to receive monthly statements electronically, rather than by mail.
At a later date, other CIBC accounts will become eligible for eStatements.
Is anyone else getting this? Or is the sign-up page somewhere else on their website? Perhaps things are not totally functional yet.

I am sure they are working on them for imported (Citi) accounts. They should be up soon, if not call them to find out. On another note, I don't what the fuss is with e-statements. Why can't we have both? Like Cap1. At least CIBC gives the lame option, TD and some others don't at all.

Read the package your received or review it online on CIBC's site .....
Unless the Program is terminated earlier as provided for by these Terms, Rebates expire five years
after they are credited to the Rebates Account. More specifically:
• if Rebates were credited to the Rebates Account on a December Statement date, they expire
in December five years later.
• if Rebates were credited to the Rebates Account on a different Statement date, they expire in
the first December that is at least five years after when they were credited.
• in either case, the Rebates expiry will happen on the December Statement date (if CIBC issues
a Statement in December) or on December 1 (if CIBC does not issue a Statement in December).
• Rebates may also expire after the primary Cardholder’s death, as detailed in section 6 below.
• CIBC is not required to provide any notice of Rebates expiry.

Seems to me, and I could be wrong and my memory is playing tricks on me, that when I first got my CIBC Visa (I have no other business with CIBC) I had to receive 1 mailed statement before I was given the option to go paperless/e-statement.

the replacement card will be the dividend one mastercard and there will be no annual fee. i will still receive 1% cash back on purchases.
meh. i'll see if i want to keep it once it arrives.
Been reading through the thread recently, haven't come across it, but the Dividend One is up to 1% cash back where as the Enrich was always 1% cashback.
Tier one - 0.25% rebate for net annual purchases up to $1,500
Tier two - 0.50% rebate for net annual purchases from $1,500.01 to $3,000
Tier three - 1% rebate for net annual purchases over $3,000
Kind of sucks.. Already have a couple MBNA Smartcash cards and those I'm sure won't survive through the TD takeover.

I just called CIBC about not being able to sign up for eStatements on their website. After a 40-minute wait, the CSR told me that it's not just me and eStatements aren't available yet for former CITI customers. There's no estimate when it will be available. The (sort of) explanation was that the transfer of historical statement info from CITI hasn't been completed yet and they've currently transferred info for only the last six months.
I assume people like sunvv who have signed up for eStatements for the transferred cards are not new CIBC customers and already have other CIBC products besides the transferred cards, so it's probably just the newbies (like me) who can't sign up for eStatements just yet. Or maybe it's just slowly rolling out and it hasn't reached me yet.

CIBC is trying to get new customers into their banking services. I received an advert with my latest Citi statement and they say I can choose between 3 promo:
1) checking account with 10 operations per month, free for a year
2) Low rate mortgage with cashback
3) HELOC or LOC at preferred rate
Promo 1 is crap, ING direct is unlimited and still free after 1 year.
Promo 2 doesn't apply to me, I'm renting.
Promo 3 can be good if the preferred rate for LOC is really good.
Anyone called to ask about their LOC rates?

No, you will still make the payment to CITI unless you get notified otherwise. In any case, even if you make a payment to Citi by accident instead of CIBC, Citi will still forward your payment to CIBC so you don't have to worry about it.
When you get your new CIBC account #, update your banking info and from that point start making payments to CIBC.
While I knew the transfer of accounts over to CIBC was taking place, and while I had read the info package sent by CIBC, I wasn't thinking before I made an online payment from my chequing account to Citi on August 25th. I still haven't received my CIBC card so hadn't thought about setting up payments to CIBC.
I phoned CIBC on Saturday, got through to an rep in just a few minutes, and he told me that he thought CITI would be issuing refund cheques to anyone who was still making payments to them. This worried me a bit as it would mean I'd have to make my payment again and wait around for a refund cheque.
I phoned CITI and the rep there said no problem - they would continue forwarding payments made to CITI on to CIBC.
I think all I need to do is change my online payment info from CITI to CIBC Mastercard, though its a bit strange since I still don't have my CIBC card.

Depends on your bank, I guess. My banks (BMO & PCF) automatically made this adjustment in online banking last week. The account now appears as M/C- CIBC with the old account number. Perhaps yours did as well?

Payments will be forwarded by Citi so you don't have to worry about it. Change your online banking info once you receive your new CIBC MC.

I can now see my Citi transactions for quite a few months back. I had to register under my old Citi card number, not the new number they seem to have given me. I just had to register the card number as if I'm a new CIBC member.
I was hoping to see all transactions for both my CIBC Visa and CIBC MC with one login, but it appears that isn't possible...yet.
When I log in with my Visa account, I can SEE the CIBC/Citi MC account number, but it's not a link. It just shows the number and that's it.

It would be nice to tie the two together. Not a huge deal as the login page remembers both card numbers, just a little inconvenient that's all.

I had the same situation, but after calling CIBC online banking support line 1-888-872-2422 that was fixed instantly. At the same time I requested to have the new login (citi mc) inactive for security reasons. (In their words, "the password is now reset" - i.e. others should not be able to access the account info using the citi mc # even if someone figured out my old password.)
(Not sure if the merging of the 2 profiles would have happened automatically without asking, if you waited enough…)

You can call the customer service 1-800-465-4653 (or 1-877-433-1908 for old citi mc customers for now) and request a pre-authorized payment request form to be snail mailed to you. As far as I can remember from the last time I did this, basically you fill out the form, and mail or fax the form and the void cheque (or equivalent) (toll-free fax # on the form). Pre-authorized payment will be eventually set up this way.
My CIBC VISA statement shows that I am on a pre-authorized payment plan (just under the minimum payment amount section) so I guess you can check each time you get a new statement or e-statement, or you can always call the customer service again.
I don’t have a CIBC bank account either. (If you do, you may have an easier way to set this up.)

ugggg, this is the oldest card on my credit report. ...
Yep.
Transunion must have received an update from CIBC/Citi overnight.
As I expected, the name of the account simply changed from "Citi Credit Card" to "CIBC Credit Card". All the history remains as it should.
So nobody can complain about that.
So happy to hear this.
For the above reason.
I hate the look of this Div1. So generic., and non 2%amex like.

Here is something everyone getting one these new CIBC cards should do.... Call CIBC 1-800-465-4653 or 1-877-433-1908 and check your address details with CIBC and not rely on Citibank to pass the information on correctly.
I called yesterday because I only received the one mailer sent out many months ago and no other information. Fearing that I would miss the delivery of the card because of a recent move, I called Citibank and double checked my address and personal info. Everything was correct with Citibank. He assured me that this was the information sent to CIBC. :)
So I called CIBC on the 1-877-433-1908 number. Yes, they knew all about me. Everything was good, except......... The mailing address was from a CIBC mortgage that I closed out almost twenty years ago. The contact phone number was someone else entirely. I have never lived in the Yukon.
I was told that my shiny new CC was being mailed on September 17th to an address that is now a mini mall. Scary to say the least and people wonder why there is so much CC fraud out there.
So the moral of this story is hit the phones.......

I had the exact same problem recently, so I called and found out why. It means they've already created your new card and shipped it, while you still can use the old card for purchases, you can't use it to access there online since it is based on the new card. So you should expect the new card however long it takes mail to reach you.
There, I just saved you 30mins of elevator music plus multiple switches between departments to get a competent CSR who knows what they hell is going on.

This CIBC service is horrible compared to Citibank. They screwed up my credit card transfer and put my card on hold without notifying me. I spent an hour with two kids doing grocery shopping only to have to abandon an entire cart of groceries after finding out my card was on hold. After waiting at the grocery line check out for an hour I gave up. I called to complain plus customer care and they offerred me 100 points worth ten cents. I threatened to escalate it to the Ombudsman and they called back to offer me 50 points. Another five cents.
I really need to cancel this card. I still don't have my new credit card and I can't get to my online statements. I gave up sitting on the phone once for 45 minutes and the other time for over an hour.

Anyone here who has the grandfathered 3% rebate might be in for some good news. The rep I was speaking with indicated that he had just received a communication stating that they would be bumping up rebates on purchases since the CIBC takeover in mid-August to reflect a 3% rebate, and that his understanding of what he read suggested that we might be able to keep earning 3% for the time being. This is good news, but unconfirmed at this time. He couldn't send me a copy of the communication he was reading, but others might want to try to confirm this on their own.
If this is true they will definitely keep me from switching. Hopefully CIBC will send out an official communication soon.
EDIT: Turns out this is NOT TRUE. I just called and was told that it was a flat 2%... no exceptions. Not sure where this info came from.

Does CIBC charge more or their interest different. Have been a CITI MC users for many years, and have a fairly low limit ($2000)
For the most part, we keep it at $0, or make enough payments versus purchases that the interest is nothing.
Sometimes after summer and vacations, the limit is maxed, but the most we have ever been charged when it was up there for a bit was arounf $22 to $25
This morning I log in to see if some paymenst went through, and the interest was $49.99
WTF is that about. I know whow CC work, and that if you dont pay off the full amount, you get charge, yada yada yada
But they must do their calculations different. Never have we ever had interest that high with CITI ever. Even when we were in the high range for a few months, it was usualy mid 20's
Anyone else been noticing this (if you carry a balance here and there)

CIBC is evidently changing the statement date. Mine terminated the 1st of each month with Citi but has now been pushed to the 7th by CIBC. My August statement has 37 days on it.
If you're in a similar situation, and you had an outstanding balance on your last Citi statement, then the interest reflects more than a month's worth.

I discovered that my citi enrich still works.
I'm gonna stop using the cibc till my citi expires. I still have a full year left on it.
There's something weird about the online access.
When I first got my CC I was able to check online for purchases. I can't remember if I was logging into the citi one and seeing it as a CIBC., or if I actually registered & logged into CIBC. Thing is., a few weeks later I tried logging into CIBC and it didn't have me registered, so I had to try again to register, but this time it glitched and after 90mins of different reps troubleshooting it, they're sending me out a REPLACEMENT cibc card??? Wow...fail. After 2 weeks, a replacement already. Epic.
Does anybody know what the liability is on these chip/pin CC's? Is it still zero liability? Can you steal a CC pin as easily (I don't know just how easy it was/is) as a debit cards'?
I NEVER used my debit cards, and never used shady ABM's., so I never had Debit card fraud. I'm quite reluctant to start using a CC that needs me to display to all my pin. Though-I am extremely careful and cover my hands when entering the pin (for the half dozen times I was trying out this new card and realized I had to enter a pin). Heck, even at the Bank, when I'm doing any ABM stuff, I cover up carefully lol. Paranoia or justified?

I see that CIBC will now charge a 2.5% fee on foreign exchange compared to zero for my Citi platinum card. That is probably what bugs me most about this purchase. Also, I was always really impressed with Citi's fraud protection, and CIBC is an unknown quantity to me. Many times Citi MC stopped unauthorized transactions (CC number obtained through seemingly legit web purchases, etc.) and I never had to pay a cent for them. Meanwhile, I used the card in some remote corners of the planet (Indonesia, Malaysia, etc.) and never once had a transaction held up.
Maybe OT, but Does anyone know of any other zero FX fee cards? I've only found some Capital 1 cards so far.

I didn't crack open my PIN until today. I finally received my card today, so I finally looked at the PIN. When I called to activate I mentioned it and she said that all the converted CITI cards kept the same PIN.

I requested for a cheque but they put the rebate against the balance errr.. anyways it paid off the credit card bill so all is good.
How were you able to get your rebate out without purchasing a vehicle??? I tried with Citi and they wouldn't do anything for me. DId you talk to CIBC???

Got my CIBC statement and Rewards balance transferred over fine but new monthly Rewards came up a bit short (like Net Balance -$250 x 2%)
Not big $$$ but never had this problem with Citi. Nothing complicated on statement; just purchases and a few returns; no cash advance, foreign purchases etc.
Any one else seen this?

CIBC is evidently changing the statement date. Mine terminated the 1st of each month with Citi but has now been pushed to the 7th by CIBC. My August statement has 37 days on it.
If you're in a similar situation, and you had an outstanding balance on your last Citi statement, then the interest reflects more than a month's worth.
Before the accounts were transferred over to CIBC, they were all put in one specific billing group, which is why for most the due date ended up changing.
This is also why Spidey's interest is almost double this month as the amount of days in the billing cycle is higher then normal. Normally, there are 28-32/33 billing days in a cycle. This is always indicated on your statement so you can easily find out.

I was thinking of closing the Visa and just going with the MC. But CIBC won't let me move the credit limit before cancelling. I even asked about closing the MC and moving the limit to the Visa. Again, the answer was "nope".

Well, that's what they told me via their online messaging system. I never actually spoke to anybody on the phone. I think I'll try asking again in a few weeks when everything calms down, but this time I'll call them directly.
When I called to activate my Div1 MC the lady couldn't answer me, however, she offered to put me thru to somebody who could give me an answer. BUT, she warned me that the queue is long, probably a 20 to 30 minute wait on hold. I said forget it, not important enough, so I sent an online message....and that's the answer I got.

Maybe you're a debit card thief & to you-the answer to my question was painfully obvious. I'm quite sure however that it's not common sense.
I would still like to know the answer.
All in all., was it necessary for you to try to elevate yourself by attempting to insult me without cause? I always find it intriguing when people do that to faceless monitors in cyberspace.
+1. He's just being a <insert word that would be censored by RFD>
The answer to your question is, yes it is easy to steal PINs from CC, it's borderline trivial. The whole system is a useless scam whose only real purpose is to shift more of the liability to the consumer.

Just a heads up for those who used to use their Citi MC for online gaming deposits (e.g. BCLC's playnow.com) or the like. Citi considered it a purchase but CIBC considers it a cash advance and charge you a $2.50 fee.
Now I have to figure out which one of my other cards won't charge a fee.

Was this for a CIBC card that replaced a Citi card? If so, the PIN you had with Citi will be the PIN that CIBC will send you.
I thought we already established that, but maybe I'm misunderstanding the current discussion.
Anyways...new question:
Has anybody had any success merging the data of 2 CIBC credit cards on the CIBC website? I can SEE both my CIBC Visa and CIBC MC when I log into either of the accounts, but I cannot access any more information (other than previous statements) for the other.
For example: I log in with my CIBC Visa number. I can SEE both the VISA and MC in the list of acounts and basic information like current balance and available credit. But only the VISA is clickable if I want more specific information like current charges and such.
When I go to view statements, I can select either my Visa or MC.
As it stands now, I have to logout and then log back in with the other CC number to see the detailed information.
Is there a way to merge them so I only have to login once? CIBC still hasn't responded to my online question.

activating the card or not has no effect on your credit report, it only matters to the issuing institution. In short, it's still considered open on your report (though u cannot use it).

Hi guys tried to do a search but couldnt find this question
I have a mail in rebate from NCIX for $25 it's a Citi MasterCard (doesn't expire until 03/12 btw)
I just tried using it on NCIXs page but the system wouldn't recognize the number
So I went to the website listed on the back of the card www.myecount.ca but that site doesn't exist anymore redirects to www.citiprepaid.com
I enter the card number on that site and it isn't recognized either and am told I should call the number on the back of the card 800-764-5376
It's automated and Im asked to enter the card number and hit pound, the system doesn't recognize the card number and it won't let me get past that part of the system (can't talk to anyone hitting 0 does nothing)
And with the knowledge that Citi MasterCard is out of Canada now (well CIBC now) I'm wondering if that change obliterated my card?
Anyone have any clues? I contacted NCIX about this But I don't even remember which purchase exactly this MIR is for (i've narrowed it down but am not certain) :/

Any prepaid cards are dealt by Cit Prepaid Services which has nothing to do with Citi MC that closed down. I just used my prepaid card that I got while working at Citi last month and it went through without any problems. I did have to activate it though.

this is a FYI, which i just find out, if you had a card from citibank with low limit and now with CIBC.
my experience:
-Citibank will deny any new transaction if the new transaction exceed your limit, so you dont have overlimit.
-CIBC will approve a new transaction even thou it will exceed the limit when your current balance is below the limit AND CHARGE a overlimit fee.
this sucks big time, since i have a low limit card for random and Internet purchases. I never had to remember my balances when it is with citibank.
i am going to cancel this card when i get my cash back.

Did Anyone notice a cashback credit on their statement? I just looked at my online statement and notice I had a credit balance of -$74 or so (I never use the card now, solely only the SC now). I can't remember off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure on the my last Citi statement I had at least $100. I thought CIBC was going to issue a cheque? Knowing CIBC I'd expect them to pull some stupid fee if I were to trasfer the 'credit' to my CIBC chequing account. A credit balance is useless since it would require me to buy something else for it to be useful, I'd rather have money deposited into my account.

Weird, I called in and asked for a cheque for my credit balance and they said it would be fine. This was probably a week or two ago, I have not received my cheque yet, but when I look at the account online, it shows up as a CR REFUND of the credit balance. I do not see a charge/fee.

To update a post I made a few months ago:
CIBC has just let me merge my credit limits on my CIBC Aerogold Visa and the CIBC Dividend One Mastercard. I originally was told that they can't transfer credit limits between a Visa and a MC or vice versa.
I've been frustrated with Aeroplan lately, so I called and asked them what else they can offer me because I no longer wanted to deal with the Aeroplan system and the $120 AF for the Aerogold Infinite. Long story short; the lady took my Aerogold Visa limit, applied it to the Dividend One MC limit, and cancelled the Aerogold.
(I don't need the Aerogold card anyways. It was a waste of $120 for the annual fee. They gave me that back too. Or at least they said they will. I guess I'll see a pro-rated $100 credit come thru in the next few days.

CIBC has sent me a survey asking for opinions on the cashback credit cards. From the questions that were asked, they are planning to offer new cashback credit cards with additional features (different combinations of car rental insurance/extra cashback for certain categories of purchase/bonus cashback once you reach a certain tier with for different annual fees) with an annual fee attached. However, it is not clear whatever they will be discontinuing the existing cashback cards.

My limit was stupidly low, it did not change.
I was getting these stupid cheques all the time that I had to shred.
Decided to move on, cancelled the card. MBNA Smartcard and TD Visa Gold elite do the job, I had no need for this particular card (old Citibank Enrich Platinum converted to CIBC Dividends 1% or something?).
The agent did not believe MBNA card was giving 3% and then was arguing for the monthly limit for the 3% for grocery and gas ($600 per month). I was like: well anyway after the limit it's still the same 1% as CIBC, so thank you...

Yeah, I got a letter with my last statement offering a $3000 increase. I took it because my profile shows less credit used then. I also hate receiving tons of those cheques. Unless the have a no fee transfer like TD did last year, it's not worth it to me.
